Win $US 2000 For Rockin' Out
Posted by Tori Floyd at 10:20 AM on March 13, 2008
If you're looking for a way to while away your boredom this weekend, or like the sound of becoming supreme national Guitar Hero champion, Play N Trade is looking for you. On Saturday, March 14, the 125 Play N Trade stores across the United States will be holding a nation-wide Guitar Hero III contest. The grand prize is $US 2000!!!... in store credit. But, nevertheless, that's $US 2000 more you'd have to spend on games than you would have had by not entering. Runner up gets a PS3, Guitar Hero III bundle, and $US 500, while third place gets a Guitar Hero III bundle and $US 200. And by dollars, I once again mean store credit. Keep in mind these are the national prizes - there's no word on anything for being the best in your Play N Trade store, other than a hearty handshake and bragging rights to all your friends. Full tournament rules and more information at the website.

@pntsanmateo: FYI, I'm not talking out of "nervousness". I'm talking out of experience. One of my friends in town is a professional GH player (as in, he makes money by playing). There's just no way I can beat him unless I quit my job and devote myself to playing 8 hours a day.
So, reality calls, and it tells me this: there are about 10 people I can think of who, if they go, will easily score way higher than most of the country on Through the Fire and Flames.
Also, I don't really do tournaments anymore. They're not as fun as getting together with friends and playing Rock Band.

@Roadkill:
We are at a PNT in San Mateo, CA and the Expert level is wide open. Every other level has a lot of people but people seem to be nervous to play on the Expert level for the 2000! So my suggestion is that you sign up for it! As for PNT making money.. Hmmm 10 per person, we spent 800 on giveaways for the event, 100 for lighting, and we have over $1000 in prizes, and we are giving away 20% of all proceeds to a local school band. So yeah we aren't making money it's for the pure fun of it and the love of gaming!

Play N Trade is by far the best gaming store I've been to. There is five or six of them in my area (two in Cary, two/three in Raleigh, one in Garner) and they all have amazing deals.
Plus they have no idea of the value of some games. My friend got Snatcher for the Sega CD for $4.99 in gem mint condition with case and manual as well as Lunar in the same condition for $3.99. I got a Sega CD ram cart in box for $2.99.
Yeah, pretty good deals all around. Plus they offer a buy two get on free on all next-gen preowned games.
I seriously recommend finding one in your area, especially if you're a retro gamer.

@Roadkill: Exactly what I was thinking.
I've never even heard of PlayNTrade before. I doubt there's any in my area.

Hey, I work at a Play N Trade! I'd have to admit, our store is much more awesome than GameStop. So all should try to find one!

@stonefry:
So you could trade it in to Play N Trade of course!
But yeah, Dragonforce as the last round is pretty crazy. I wouldn't be that surprised if someone in the country pulls out a 100%.

Roadkill said it, but I will say it again. Why in god's name would a Guitar Hero expert want Guitar Hero III?

FYI, guys, there's a registration fee for this tourney ($10 pre-pay, $15 day-of), and PNT Corporate has recommended a minimum 1st prize of $100 store credit for all local tournaments.
Trust me on this one - I'm actually typing this FROM a Play-N-Trade store's work computer.

I know someone who could win. Unfortunately, like MANY people I am sure, neither of us have ever seen a Play N Trade.

It's normal to have a corporate give away like this despite what you may already own... the in-store credit is the real prize the axe is a bonus... it would make a killer present for a cousin or friend.
I just visited my first Play N Trade last week and it was a refreshing experience compared to EB.

The final song is Through the Fire and Flames. I'd watch out, Scorehero has been tracking this tournament for weeks. If you can't get at least 700k on TTFAF, you probably don't have a chance at any of the national prizes.
Also, what is with prizes for GH tournaments being a GH bundle? The people who win *own* GH already...
