XBLA Puzzle Quest Expands
Posted by Mike Fahey at 1:20 AM on March 18, 2008
Xbox 360 owners won't have to wait for the upcoming Galactrix to get their Puzzle Quest fix, as D3Publisher announces Puzzle Quest 1.5, and expansion pack due out this spring for Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords. Don't like the name Puzzle Quest 1.5? Starting today at noon central, fans can head over to www.puzzle-quest.com and enter their name suggestions for a chance at leaving their mark on the franchise. The expansion features an all-new storyline involving Lord Bane's brother, Antharg, the Lord of the Plague, who is a bit pissed off that you killed his bro with glorified Bejeweled. The game takes you into the newly uncovered Southern portion of the map, and features over 25 new quests, more than 50 new spells, 40 new items, plus new monsters and bosses to take on. The expansion also features four new player classes - bard, rogue, ranger, and warlock - which should prove just as entertaining and refreshing in multiplayer as they will in single player. I suppose now I am going to have to spend hours and hours leveling up my new rogue once the pack hits, No word yet on pricing, but where my PQ addiction is concerned, money is no object.

Hark, what is this madness? Even MORE Puzzle Quest?? This means rebuying the game for XBLA and then buying the expansion, but my insides are screaming "DO WANT!"

Oh fuck yeah.
Two questions:
How much? The game itself was $15, so hopefully not more than $5. That would make it alright for an expansion, yet not outrageously expensive for someone needing the original.
When? Too close to Galactrix and it'll be cannibalized. Also don't release it anytime close to GTA.

Oh no. I thought I'd get some respite form PQ until the space one comes out, but I guess they're intent on stealing even more hours of my life.

If this expansion is free I'll probably buy the original game. I played Puzzle Quest on my friend's DS and thought the map wasn't big enough. There was this whole area to the left that wasn't used.

Yes! This is what I was waiting for. Galactrix looks meh, I wanted more Puzzle Quest. And here it is!
All I hope is that there's a level cap increase... fifty is too low! I hit that a while before the end of the game. Urff.

@njhardcoreguy: Trollerriffic!
They certainly need this expansion more places than XBLA. That's the easiest place for it, but it wouldn't be too hard on PC, and it wouldn't be out of the question to have it on the PSP version via PSN either. Dunno about PS2 or DS.

Yes! Finally a fresh needle to shoot that video game crack. I've pretty much done everything you can do in the XBLA version, so an expansion would be very much appreciated.

@MisterSleep: I've heard tons of people complain about that and I completely had the opposite experience. Yeah, the game was rough starting, but that was before I knew how to create my own combos.
I neglected to mention in my first post that it took me literally 5 or 6 turns to kill the final boss. My spells were just too powerful.

My big problem with this game has always been the horrid, cheating little gnome they build into every copy of the game that makes sure the computer "AI" gets insane streaks every turn. If I wasn't positive the 360 version allowed more blatant and egregious computer cheating, I'd pick this up in a second.
I dunno about you guys, but I'm stockpiling weapons and waiting for Judgment Day.

I'm very conflicted. I own the game on DS and I like it there because of the portablitiy and the stylus interaction. I really want to play this though, and I had always wondered why the map was so big if the game didn't cover it all.
I think I'm going to have to pass, because I'll have to rebuy Puzzle Quest and that's not something I'm willing to do. I think they'll lose a lot of buyers in the same way. It's too bad you can't expand on handhelds. They should consider doing the same on PC, but then there's the risk of piracy...
Those next-gen PSP and DS fan-concepts that were designed recently should all include high capacity storage drives. Forget all the sliding and blades and flip-ups. Focus more on bringing handhelds closer to stationary consoles. Not in size and weight, mind you, just functionality.
But I'm way off topic.
Love Puzzle Quest but I'll wait for Galactrix, which is a definite buy at the moment.

My PSP is basically my PQ machine, I cannot remember the last time I played another game on it. This might make me pick it up for the 360 now.....damnit

This game really needs touch screen controls. I don't understand why they wouldn't consider releasing this content as a new DS game.

Cool. Been looking for a reason to give PQ another go-round on the arcade. It's so easy on early levels after you've been playing - hope the content is HARD HARD HARD! :)

PQ works best on a portable system, as to many puzzle games. As for them slapping it on every platform possible, it just shows they wanna squeeze as much money as they can from it. Great game, though.

@edb87: They are seperate. The game may be 50MB & a save may be 10KB, just check your memory and see how many slots are in there. I know Castlevania & SFII both have seperate files.

@edb87: Saved data should always be saved separately from program files.
I'm not 100% sure on that for PQ, but I'd go so far as to say I'm 90% sure if you delete the game, the save files won't go with it.

Cool. I may have to swipe that.
I have a question for you 360 tech types: I bought PQ on a different console and I have to "re-buy" it every time I play to "get the full version". If I delete it and redownload it, will I lose my saved games or are those saved separately on the HDD?

You suck.
Anyhoo, I really enjoyed the DS version, but I think I'll give this a pass. For one thing, I don't have a 360. If it shows up on Steam, however, I just might buy it a second time. The only concern is that the new characters might be a bit unbalanced at launch.
