Xbox Japan Boss Is Wasted On Japan
Posted by Luke Plunkett at 12:20 AM on March 4, 2008
The best thing to come out of Microsoft's Japanese XNA awards night weren't the games themselves. Not even close. No, the best part was the arrival of Xbox Japan boss Takashi Sensui, who didn't just walk onto the stage. He didn't use steps, like mortal men. No, the dude descended in a gondola. And not just any gondola, a gondola called "THE CANDY HOUSE". Look at him wave! He's loving it. In these cold, unexciting times, when the industry's most colourful platform executives have either moved on or moved away (Allard, Kutaragi, Moore, Harrison), Sensui is the sole bastion of corporate good times. If only Microsoft had left Don "Who?" Mattrick where he was and made this guy Xbox boss.

It says he's the 'senior manager' of MS's XNA Group, so Sensui's underlings are apparently as insane as him.
Good for them.

@Brian Ashcraft: Yes, can we vote?
"If only Microsoft had left Don "Who?" Mattrick where he was and made this guy Xbox boss."
I was asking for this last year when Moore left. Sensui has personality and it showed in a couple of videos that were posted here back at the time of TGS. I guess they want to put their best efforts towards their worst market. Maybe he's being held back by his inability to miraculously make the Japanese buy 360s. Someone should realize that isn't his fault.

@Luke Plunkett: Heh just wait, I'm sure when/if Nintendo gets back into an "underdog" position he'll be back in Crazy Reggie form ;)

@Purple Dave: Reggie's gone BORING. No more ass-kicking, he's all about counting money and staying on-message these days. BORING.

I assume we mean that he's to good for the land of the rising sun, not that Japan has an intoxicating effect.

*coughREGGIEcough* What's that? Oh, I though we were talking about how all the interesting console execs had moved on from their jobs.

I'm thinking this should be the default picture for any story about the Xbox division in Japan.

And this is why, Luke, you don't make these kinds of decisions ;). BTW, the thought of the likes of Jeff Bell riding a candy-cane pony onto a press stage scares the hell out of me!

Hey I like it, at least MS has gone and hired some hardcore dudes, it may not mean much this generation but assuming they're in it for the long haul guys like this are gonna be there as well.
Of course MS' long term prospects bring up mixed feelings for me, especially in the wake of my 360 console failing to turn on at all last night. Combined with trying to talk to MS tech support while having laryngitis, it was a down evening. They told me to take it to "EB Games" today and make sure its not just my power brick thats screwed up...we'll see I guess :(

The guy riding the panda seemed much much worse, though I guess he probably wasn't as important.
And holy shit, Kotaku's site's not fubared from the workplace for the first time in a while.
@Kuro: Candy Shack.

I think this proves that you'd have to be legally insane to run anything Microsoft related in Japan.

But then the gondola's green lights turned red and it immediately shut down.
