You Can Watch New Alone in the Dark Trailer
Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 12:00 AM on March 28, 2008
Here's the trailer for the next Alone in the Dark. It's multi-plat and set in Central Park. So, it's Alone in the Dark in Central Park? Or is it Alone in the Dark Central Park? Alone in the Central Park Dark? We've always thought words that rhyme are way too cute for survival horror. Just our opinion!

Well, I can't say I knew what was going on in the trailer. Was he trying to blow up some tentacle that was burrowing through the park?
I love the old AITD series and can't wait for this one, but that trailer just had me a bit lost.

Kinda corny actually.
But I'm still looking forward to this game! I am suddenly reminded of Alan Wake, though.....

I have a feeling this will be one of the best survival horror games of this decade. Silent hill 5 will be good too, I'm sure, but I think this will top it due to its originality, even though silent hill 5 will most likely make you shit your pants more.
That being said, cool trailer, but I wish I could see more gameplay.

Anyone notice that the writers of two of the articles were Jonathan Carpenter and Ash Campbell?
One's a mix of Ash Williams/Bruce Campbell, the other's a nod to John Carpenter.
Man I wish there were more interesting things to watch in the trailer than that....

That is some of the cheesiest shit I have ever seen. Instead of spending 6 million dollars on realistic trenchcoat technology, why not hire a decent writer?

The trailer's bad, but the website feeds everyone love of conspiracy theories pretty nicely. I have hopes for the game, but why is Edward Carnby looking so.... spry?

Have no idea what the hell this series is about. People have explained it to me more times than I can count, and still don't know what it is. I hadn't even heard about it until last year. It's just like Good Friday. I have no idea what it is, I ask people every year, and every year I forget. I guess there are some things that I was just destined to give absolutely no shit about. Don't waste your time explaining it to me either, I'm just going to forget.

I will never own this game, because I believe it's never coming out, and if I am wrong, I won't buy it. This trailer only cemented that for me. Even Christian Slater is embarassed for this one.

If this game doesn't have anything to do with Lovecraftian Mythos I'm going to be extremely disappointed. So far the only great game in the series has been the first, and that was released sixteen years ago!

@shikaningen: Oh its worse then that, isn't it? That makes it sound like they're striving to compete with them in narrative and cinematography. Stuff like this just parodies action movies that you've already seen.
I thought about it some more, and this trailer acts like a grocery list of everything wrong with game design:
1.) Set in New York (Seriously, stop that)
2.) Terrible unprofessional writing
3.) Story simply showcases gameplay (You can shoot bottles in midair!)

I don't see the problem that you have with the basic plot. Central Park was built to summon/appease/contain unspeakable terrors from the beyond. Seems like an appropreately Lovecraftian story in a Ghostbusters kind of way. More than good enough for me. This is "The Rats in the Walls" not War and Peace.

Wow... that's some cheesy tagline work. Great another game set in New York City. Because why again? It's an iconic realistic backdrop for fantastic occurrence. I've heard it, it sounds nice, but I don't know if its really as important as designers make it same. I would like to see evidence that setting a story in a fictional city makes it any less captivating then setting it in bloody New York. The fact that you can create a groan-worthy tall tale about the origin of Central Park is not a plus.

Holy bejeezus that was some lame shit.
"They said central park was for the people. They lied." ?!?!?
How ungainly and cheesy. That is one of the most profoundly ineloquent, meaningless, and just plain idiotic catch phrases I have heard in my life. Perhaps even worse than that country music song that goes: "But a man's not a train and a train's not a man."
You know, the whole thing came across as disjointed and much too hollywood for my tastes.
/I am really getting sick of the "hollywoodification" of videogames, by the way.
