I don't know what it is, but I'm just not excited for this. I LOVE GTA, I've played San Andreas more than most people should, but I just can't get my excitement levels above "cool." Perhaps I'm worried that it just will be more of the same, perhaps a high res version of GTA 3. I just feel that they haven't had enough time to fully design GTA from the ground up, which is what I'm hoping for.

@Earthslide: Well the graphics do seem "next gen." (Can I still use that term?) But to have the city working with all the new AI tricks and the density of people, cars, buildings, etc. I dunno... I'm impressed. I'm betting the Wii couldn't run GTA IV without some hiccups/ or gimping. Not that it will ever be ported.

Lost Odyssey would have been a better movie than it was a game. Nothing new in it at all. It suffered from the same disease as Blue Dragon to me (i.e. The storyline didn't really start to get good till a few hours into it.) There are JRPGs out there better than FF8-12, unfortunately Blue Dragon is not one of them.

On topic...The graphics don't look that amazing to me at all. Maybe I'm not seeing what everyone else is, but while the graphics are a step up from San Andreas, they look about a year behind what came out recently. Seems to me that was the same deal as San Andreas. Not the best, most impressive graphics, just good enough to look nice and convey what the developers wanted and not have people 'complain' about the graphics.

Now I will say the PRESENTATION of the video was nice.

you've got a point, but GTA has never been about end all graphics, it has always been about the gameplay and open world play. I'll take fun gameplay over graphics any day. Case in point assasin's creed, looks really nice, but pretty boring after the third mission, its the same thing over and over again. Or even, army of 2, no amount of graphic polish will convince that the game is fun to play with its silly weapon selection system and weird configuration.

One thing I noticed about this clip: the car driving physics look totally awesome. It reminds me of Gran Turismo only with more explosions.

Anyone remember the 'target renders' for the Getaway PS3 version at e3 years ago? How almost real it looked? that is what I was hoping for in GTAIV (at the time) but I've long come to accept that even if you cobbled a PS3 and a 360 together into one 'super console' things still wouldn't look that great with our old enemies aliasing, tearing, flickering shadows etc....

Which is why I don't give a shit how GTA looks NOW and am purely approaching it from a gameplay POV.. i'm sure it can still manage to look great in many situations due to the 'alive' feeling of it rather than graphical fidelty but when you consider the vast area Rockstart are simulating here it's kind of understood that the graphics wouldn't be quite up to crysis standards.

Can't wait for the game... must finish uncharted (and play more motorstorm and GT5p) before the month's up because after that I think this will be the only disc in my ps3 for some time!

Why is it that every video I've seen of GTA 4 shows absolutely no shots of anything even closely resembling playable gameplay? I know they've claimed that a lot of this stuff is "gameplay footage" (like 75% from the Everyone's a Rat trailer, or something), but seriously: every single camera angle is cinematic and unpractical. I really hope the game doesn't try to be so cinematic while you're actually playing it, because there's nothing worse than an unfriendly camera that sacrifices my ability to see what I'm doing in favor of looking cool.

GTA generally doesn't do tech demonstrations of gameplay. And, aside form the mindless mayhem you're able to do, story ends up being a big deal. Unless they've gone loopy at Rockstar, I imagine the game will still be very playable.

I want to preorder this game, but, I can't decide between the PS3 and the 360 versions. I don't really care about DLC (as I probably won't finish the SP game for quite some time), and I refuse to pay for LIVE (but I'm not sure I even want MP, so that doesn't rule out the 360 version).

I'm just waiting for the reviews to come out so that I can see which version runs smoother, has smaller loading times, etc. Damn it, when will we get this information so I can get a preorder before it's too late?

Am I the only one that thinks this games looks just like the others, just a tad bit prettier. Not trying to start a flame war, but even the directions of the cut scenes look rather similar. I've been underwhelmed with every video/screen shot I've seen thus far.

I would have absolutely no trouble at all walking into any store here in Ireland on launch day or several days afterwards and obtaining it. That doesn't stop chains like GAME and Gamestop pushing preordering, but that's beside the point.

I have never seen any game sell out at launch in Ireland such that you can't find it anywhere. Never. I expect even if it did happen I could obtain it from any number of online stores. Or (oh the humanity), I could wait a few days for stock to reappear.

It's not hard to do, especially as we're just talking about a game. It's not going anywhere, and who knows - a few days consideration might make purchasing an informed decision rather than based on pure hype.

@DrXym: nothing wrong when buying a game that is being hyped. it is after all the way that a game is successfully launched these days. and the last time i checked, GTA hasnt sucked since it went 3D. with that said, the last time i went to get SSBB there was a woman at ebgames crying telling people to please sell her their pre-order for 2X the price of the game. also take into consideration people will be flocking for the limited edition of the game, so i want my copy reserved. so yes i predict (and i could be wrong) the GTA4 will be bigger than SSBB simply because it is:
1)GTA...duh!
2) and it is multiplatform

so if u don't believe the hype that's cool, but right about now, they have made a believer outta me.
