Konami ID Dojo: Things Are Streamlined, Yo
Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 2:00 PM on April 23, 2008
Clusterfuck and all, Konami cares. Konami wants you to have a good Metal Gear Online experience. But before you can have a good MGO, it would be nice if getting a Konami ID wasn't such a pain in the arse. Well! Konami has streamlined its website and made getting an ID somewhat less of a pain in the arse. Bravo. Now, if they can get their servers up and running for the *planned* Friday Beta, things would be just grand.

@DaveyPwnckett: There is a process to get a new key if you received an incomplete key. They will not be opening up the beta in NA.

Question, with all the effed up 9 and 11 digit beta keys are they just going to open the beta up to everyone who wants to participate? Because I dont remember if I was dreaming or read it on here somewhere haha. If its not true I hope Konami sends me a new key. But if they dont its no big deal.

Jesus, that was frustrating. After my tenth error, after revising my IDs and passwords for the 10th time, I about gave up. Who's ever heard of restricting user names to lower case only? Why do user names *have* to contain numerals? Hell, I'm not even sure if they do, I was trying just about anything to get past the constant vague errors. Thank god they emailed me what my Konami and Game IDs were, because I'd have no clue...

I wonder, is the FINAL game gonna use our PSN IDs, or the pain-in-the-ass-to-get Konami IDs?

I just keep telling myself that at least this is happening now, and not when the game is released. To be fair though, this is Konami's first real foray into the online arena. It was kind of surprising that they didn't seek any outward help from Sony, because, really, having their first attempt be probably the PS3's biggest game yet, that's scary. Notice how Microsoft did not release Xbox live with Halo 2, but instead, went with games like Crimson Skies and Blood Wake. As much experience microsoft has with networking, they still did a soft opening.

Stream-lined shit is still just shit. You're not fooling anyone, Konami!
(Yes, their ID signup process is still terrible.)

Haha, I still got my Konami ID like 3 weeks ago.
Sorry.

Konami ID site is still wanged. I have a Konami ID but neglected to register for a Game ID so I'm stuck on the sidelines despite having a patched game ready to go.

@ChunkOFunk: what i don't understand is this really ISN'T there first foray into online gaming.
does nobody remember MGS3:Substinance (or whatever that onoe was called) had online multiplayer... which Konami ended shutting the servers on...
...damn, maybe not the best point to bring up there, but it is to defer to my opening statement.
you think if you have done it before for MGS games (not forgetting MG:PO, or wass that only local multi?) they'd realise how much the servers would strain.
they shoulda kept Beta pre orders only i think (coming from someone in UK, without a pre order) to test servers, Then offer others it

I don't see what was so horrible the first time. It took less than a minute and a half.

Yeah, now that I've fought through a tunnel of cheezegraters so I can play on day 1, that's when they fix it.

I had no problem getting an ID when they first started the sign up. So yeah I'm totally ready if I ever get a beta code.

@bodger1: Ah, yeah, forgot about that. True, they should have SOME experience in the online world, but at the same time, the number and complexity of the servers required to handle everthing involved in next-gen online, like friends lists, game invites, and the like, most likely threw them off. Yeah, keeping betas to pre-orders only would have made a lot of sense.

I got mine today. The process is still shitty and lame. I know Konami wanted to be elitist arseholes and have their own identification system, but they could have settled for just ONE ID for all their games, couldn't they? Jesus.

Took me less than five mins yesterday.I'm just not seeing what the problem is.It's not perfect, but it doesn't make me want to go kick the neighbors dog or anything.Got the email and agreed to the terms of service.
*I don't like the comment about purchasing online credits. What is that about? DLC

After 3 e-mails asking for a 12-digit code to replace my 9-digit one, they finally send me an...11-digit one...lol
I went through half the alphabet to get that last bloody digit!
Oh, the Konami ID/Game ID thing worked great last night (streamlined).
