(Many thanks to Fahey's wit.)

"EA's Monopoly Coming to 360, PS2, Wii"
I don't know if Monopoly is that suited to a console, it's not that well balanced. As soon as someone gets a few houses they have a huge advantage.
Then again, this game might turn out great. After all, EA already has lots of experience with unfair Monopolies.
this should definitely have been an XBLA/PSN title. offline only, are you serious? what a missed opportunity...
AgainstOne
@TheUncleBob: Exactly!!
Katorok
OH YES!! FINALLY!! I've been waiting for this for some time.. Ever since Atari shut down that other Monopoly online..
Katorok
Wait, so, instead of launching it over PSN/XBLA like any decent, level-headed person would do, they're going to clutter it up with stupid minigames and release it for full price?
Fuck you EA. Just.... Fuck you.
Moonshadow101
I always thought ea was about going with all platforms, so it is odd there is no ps3 version. With something so trvial and cheap for them as this will be it makes me wonder what they really think of the ps3 to skip on it.
GPman
PS3 clearly doesn't have what it takes to run a Monopoly game...
Abdar
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
EA!! MONOPOLY!!!
I nearly fell out of my chair from the massive amount of irony behind this one.
I wouldn't want to get sent to jail in EA's version of Monopoly. They will probably charge you REAL money to get out....
I guess this realy is appropriate considering that EA follows the Parker Bros. business model when it comes to the Monopoly game.... Churn out as many slightly updated/changed versions of the same damn game year after year....
Mr.SithNinja
sweetness, exactly what I've wanted.
NumbSinner
To those who say a game of Monopoly takes to long - try playing by the rules. When you play by "house rules", you destroy the main mechanic of the game - which is taking money out of the game. Putting money on "Free Parking", giving extra money for landing on "Go", selling houses/hotels back to the bank for full price, using more than the 32houses/12 hotels, not paying back mortgage+10%, loaning money to other players and not auctioning off property that players land on but decline to buy all make the game last longer.
For those who say the game hasn't changed, try picking up Winning Moves' "Mega" Edition. The Speed Die and the new properties (One in each color group) really change a lot about the game. It's a great version of Monopoly if you haven't played in a long time.
For EA: Stratego DS with on-line multi-player, please.
TheUncleBob
Ea's monopoly coming everywhere soon...
;)
steliosco
seriously, why shaft the ps3?
VixDiesel
No PS3 version? Let me guess; the Cell was incapable of running a game with such high caliber graphics as Monopoly right? *rolls eyes*
LeLoi
EA....Monopoly...
Wait, isn't that the same word?
Tyber_Zann
"we've accelerated the pace of play, added new interactive mini-game sequences and integrated multi-player moments designed to make MONOPOLY a non-stop party for the whole family"
In other words, it's not Monopoly, it's Monopoly Party.
skullivan
Yeah, I have to agree, I can't see paying full retail for something like this, make it an XBLA for like 10 bucks and you got me, other than that, no way.
jello44
Is this a downloadable game on the 360? Otherwise, I can't see myself being interested.
Stormrider
@greeble:
Second.
Scruffy_the_Janitor
Uh, didn't they already have a Monopoly Party game??? O_o
Zaxxon Q Blaque
@eggfou:
Yah it will be cheaper for me to get it on SNES if they are going to as 60 for it, but like you i will pay 10 or 15 for it.
Like everyone this was a very funny pun.
i LOL'd out loud.
Dakobah
I though EA's monopoly was already avaliable on the 360, PS3 and Wii? You know, their game catalogue...
But seriously who cares about this?
Eothein
Apparently PS3 owners hate Monopoly? But yeah this sucks as a retail product. Make it wii ware, Live Arcade or PSN and I might consider buying it.
greeble
I remember having Star Wars Monopoly on PC, it took decades to go around the board once.
And to say it's always been the same is unfair. Recently they brought out a version that uses "credit cards" rather than paper monies, and true to real life, I spent my plastic monies like it didn't matter. I'd have hoarded and saved paper money.
Northernsky
Should be a download. Nobody is going to buy a boxed copy of this.
If this was on XBLA for $10 I'd be all over it.
Manny
So is it coming to Live Arcade or is it a full retail release? No way I am going to pay $60 for Monopoly, but I would gladly pay $10 or $15 for it on arcade.
eggfou
"Rolling the dice and passing go will never be the same."
Wow, really? It's been pretty much the same for a while. The Nascar version had similar die rolling. The Millennium version was shinier, but it was still just passing Go. Even the Pokemon version used real world currency, so it was still $200 per pass. Who would think they would embellish in a press release?
Erwin
hmmm i may pass on the first EA monopoly game.. but once monopoly 2015 comes out i'll definitely play that!
Godluvsugly
I, like many of you, saw the joke from a mile away. Oh the delicious irony.
Ps. - EA, stay away from Take2 and Ubi.
Klaymen
doesn't a game of monopoly take a century to finish. Still in a game I started when I was 7, I am 20 now. =P
orangesaft
Haw Haw Haw. That's punny.
I condemn everyone who took part in the creation of this article to the... second level of Pun Hell. Yes. That seems fair.
Ghede
Lol, Monopoly isn't dead yet?
EA would release pet rocks if they thought they would sell.
Shocky
Its a retail game sadly. I want a monopoly game for XBLA.
@Hauler: Yes lol. *cough*take two buy out.
Tiberian
Oh man...I thought of a really witty comment when I saw the title. And Fahey had to take it away.
Damn it! But you have to admit - monopoly? EA? It's kind of a gimme. :)
Spoony Bard
Does anyone else see the irony of EA releasing a Monopoly game?
Hauler
Boo!
And why just the PS2?
Truvill
Agree with the above posters:
$10 or $15 is worth a shot.
$40 or $60? Not a chance. (no pun intended)
lionkitten
I would only buy this if this was on WiiWare and online.
M
@Hauler: OH GOD, I knew that I had forgotten something and you said it! HIGH FIVE!
eskimo-bob
two reasons why this is made of win:
1."bringing it to life in a way never before imagined"
Confirmed snorting cocaine off a hookers ass and kicking out low-class families from their homes. AWESOME!
2."MONOPOLY a non-stop party for the whole family."
Confirmed cocaine in the box.
pandafresh
Why do they always have to try and reinvent monopoly. I'd be happy with just the plain old original and being able to play it online but no they have to throw in all these krazy xtreme rules for people who have a 4 second attention span.
niacin
now that i think about it,this is just a way for Ea to say to us,f$%@ you,we do what we want, look we even realease a game called monopoly for full price and you can't do jack
steliosco
@Illyr: Random number generator.
Choose the number of players, hit Start, and then you get the message: Congratulations Player You've won!
Bursar
I like to play Monopoly, but I seriously have never finished a game. They would just take too long and other players would lose interest. I wonder how "Faster gameplay" feature will be implemented.
Illyr
Oh Wait..? Does this mean on same system multi-player or online and there just not being specific?
" Play in offline single or multi-player mode and compete to own it all and win!"
Someone let us know the fine print.
JorgieX
It's not on the PS3 because a Bluray disc isn't big enough for the intricacies of Monopoly
Len Bias Cocaine Surplus
I hear that hotels, "get out of jail free" cards and the Free Parking space are going to be paid DLC on this one...
Vexorg
"EA is taking MONOPOLY'S core gameplay and bringing it to life"
Yes, yes they are.
Bursar
Finally a real version of Monoply to play online with even the PC version only allows for same PC multi-player action. Sign me up....!
JorgieX
Hmm...didn't I get this in my Honey Nut Cheerios box a few years back.
If they should make any game, RISK is it! Plus online play. But it should be a XBL/PSN title.
Ethosian
If EA wants to recreate the Monopoly experience, opposing players, human and AI, who are playing as the banker should be able to steal a few hundreds and surreptitiously add it to their own funds.
megaStryke
lolz, I see what you did there!!!
But seriously, for some strange reason I love Monopoly games. Keeps me civilized as there's no game board to flip over
Alexander-The-Great
My first thought was that this (aside from the pun) was some kind of joke. I feel that response illuminates a kind of "Poe's Law" for games: It is impossible to write a press release for a crummy game that will not be mistaken for a parody of a press release for a crummy game.
mwclarkson
Will this use the "Scene it" party controllers? I've been waiting for another game that uses those.
robinandtami
Well, I'm excited...
parasiteartist
EA's Monopoly
ironic...
Zombie_Moogle
Yawn...
Eltigro
Do I fail at reading or is there no online mode?
PokeSmot
Fuck this. If it's not on XBLA, I'm not interested.
KaneRobot
XBLA $10?? KTHX.
MarshmallowMark
PS3 got totally shafted. im assuming they're too lazy to make a ps2 and ps3 version, so they just make the ps2 one and anyone who has a backward-compatible SKU of a PS3 can get the Ps2 one..
I wouldn't buy it anyhow. that's the 10 dollars i could spend on something like.. oh i donno... COD4 map packs, MGS4...
leimeisei
...
oops.
man_in_gauze
blah, did you eat my comment again, kotaku?
Monopoly with quicktime events would be pretty hilarious (in a bad, pitying kind of way), and at least I would be able to beat my parents. Now that I think about it, there's not much real skill in the game otherwise.
man_in_gauze
Hehe, quicktime events in Monopoly? I would own my parents, at any rate.
man_in_gauze
Spiffy headline
Kounji
@AgainstOne:
I completely agree with you but...
They probably wanted the retail presence more than anything else. That's how casuals shop; that's how they'll know this game exists... yet again.
okenny :)
I never really understood the game 'Monopoly'.
'Guys, if we all work together and pool our resources, we'll fill these streets with glorious hotels in under five minutes!'
Same with Risk, really. It's why I never really get the hang of RTS's and socio-economic engineering.
StartRunning
Couldn't be worse than Infogrames' versions. Seriously though, Monopoly:the Mega edition is way better than Monopoly Party.
supercrap
Which version is it?
Marge: We don't need TV to have family fun. Why don't we play Monopoly?
Lisa: Which version? We've got Star Wars Monopoly, Rasta-Mon-Opoly, Galip-olopoly, Edna Krabappoly...
Marge: Let's stick to original Monopoly. This game is crazy enough as it is. (Looking at her game piece) How can an iron be a landlord?
