First Look At Samuel L. Jackson's Afro Samurai Game
Hard to tell what's going on besides blood and Sam Jackson's voice. But really, what else do you need? Other things. Oh, right. Gotcha! The cell-shaded Afro Samurai game follows Takahashi Okazaki's manga and will feature a hip-hop soundtrack with appearances by The RZA. Out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this fall in North America. anywho...the game sounds like its to be the best samurai game in da world....good for me im very particular with my fighting games. if the trailer shows no gameplay footage im not fallin for it. when i get gameplay i shall fall for it. but for the most part im in it for the music right now. if i hear 50 cent or whatever mr. i got shot 9 times name is, if i hear his music in the game im callin the game garbage. so far its movin up on my radar.

@Jnkzm4: Haha, well we all make mistakes of course. I'm not demeaning him or anything like that. Just pointing out that this was shown before, its not the first time that this has happened.
Well, at least it reminded me that this game existed, cause I completely forgot about it. XD
Suddenly I can't find this post without going through my recent comments though...heh.

I merely wished to point out that we as a gaming community can get excited for something like this without pointing out race (as I played devils advocate and did), but can't, as a whole, accept it when colours are reversed.
Hell, even Yhatzee pointed out that Uncharted seemed a lot like 'Whitey goes on a killing spree'. And up until he pointed out, I hadn't even thought of it like that, nor really noticed it. I don't think many other people did either.

wow ashe...you got put on the spot... G'DAMNS!!!

Didn't watch Afro Samurai yet... but Sam Jackson's voice over the end just sold it to me!
Bokusatsu_Tenshi
@Komrade_Kayce: How delightfully unnecessary.
Furious_Liver
@UmeShoryu: Correction, there is one white person who looks awesome with a 'fro. Bob Ross. Other than him, the ratio of afros that look good on white compared to black people are not very high.
UmeShoryu
@Komrade_Kayce: Afros don't look on white people. At least not anyone I've ever seen. eg. Richard Simmons.

Nice!!! Thank you! I couldn't get the damn age verification to work.

@Black-Dog-Howls: heh, didnt like the PS2 Champloo game, eh?
@Komrade_Kayce: thank you so very much for irrelevantly opening that can of worms.
@blehh: nice. where'd that come from? there's more footage there, and a mix of Nas' "One Mic" over it doesnt hurt. Man, the thought of a RZA/Nas mashup makes me wanna buy the game twice.
TheIrishNinja
Glad to see they're going to get the blood part right. I remember seeing a video of the game earlier but it was severely lacking blood, a very important characteristic of the anime!

@Channing:
Apparenly I should read the comments before I do anything =/.
Channing
Um,... it says I can't watch it because I'm 22. Am I too young?
Channing
Afro Samurai is typical Gonzo. At least the Gonzo since Last Exile and Samurai 7.
Anyways, Samurai Champloo is superior. Use that engine you've got on that Naruto PS3 game for a great Champloo game Bandai!! Please?

@Komrade_Kayce:
I mean... part of the whole cool about Afro is that he's black. People will argue one way or another skin colour doesn't matter, but part of what makes him such a serious badass is the fact hes so... out of place amongst everyone else there. Which is made ever so more obvious because hes the only person with a darker skin colour. Army of One, as it were.
Komrade_Kayce
Oh yeah, and
"Clearly, no white people worked on this game"
Honestly, fucking look at it. Nobody cries boo hoo that a black man kills hundreds of people non-black (I dont even remember a single person of colour from the anime who he killed). If the roles were reversed here, helllooooo racism card.
But as it stands, we the gaming community are generally excited to get to play as this serious badass. The more attention Afro gets, the more likely my fanboy pants will explode and a crossover with Shinobi or Ryu happens. Oh, and hell also freezes over.

@bnpederson:
I found the problem with the age verification... it asks (dd/mm/yy) but what it means to ask is (mm/dd/yy) ... they really need to do something about that.... either way, enter month before day (including "/") & it should work...
M. Lobo
@Dreadfish:
Same.
@108:
Nope, didn't work. I tried backslash, forward slash, hyphen, numbers with no spaces, listing out the full year (1982 in my case) and it still gave me the ESRB error. I had to say I was born in 1975 to get it to work.
...Maybe this is just that violent. Dude, I have to get a game if I'm not ready for it at twenty-five.
bnpederson
@Dreadfish: It asks for dd/mm/yy but it actually wants mm/dd/yy
Looks... bloody. Good sign.

If Ron Pearlman voices SOMETHING in the game, Im sold.
<3 Ron. Him and Sam L were absolutely perfect for the voiceovers.
Komrade_Kayce
1. What a horrible Trailer
2. I love Afro Samurai. I wish more anime was like it. No big and boring conversations about Gaia, life-forces, or pubescent brats in schoolgirl outfits...just awesome art, kickass action, and hip hop...the good hip hop.

K... When I saw this in Play Magazine, I was like "Nobody can do Afro Samurai and still make it beautiful" until I saw the Screens, then now I see the Video...
More RZA? Still sold.
Can't wait.

It'll getchu drunk!

Loved the show. It had great animation and voice work, not to mention the music was awesome.
Game so far looks pretty good with the cel-shading. Nice to know Jinno will be making an appearance. Afro vs Teddy Bear was the best fight IMO, though I couldn't get around the feeling that it was Afro vs Sasuke. Oh well, same VA.
UmeShoryu
I have had it with these motherfucking afros on these motherfucking samurai.
...What? SoaP quotes are unavoidable!
ShaggE
I sure enjoyed watching Afro Samurai, but when I showed to my friends, they all said that everyone in A.S. was a bland one dimensional character. I guess I can see where that came from, but I still dug the music. (they also mentioned Afro Drone was a 9 dimensional character, was Afro Drone really that awesome?)
AntiZERØ
Holy crap, this could be awesome. Who is developing? Bandai Namco?
JRONJR
Falcoon, character designer of the King of Fighters and all-around Amazingly Awesome Individual (AAI), commented about this anime on his mixi blog a few months ago, saying, and I quote:
"I kind of hope that someday, maybe, style won't be enough."
I think that's a noble way to put it.
I watched an episode and didn't totally get it. Sam Jackson is hot as hell, et cetera, though yeah, as a show, as something to watch, it didn't work.
It's said that Samuel L Jackson himself was an actual inspiration for the manga. Something tells me that as a game -- as a means to fulfill player wishes to be the baddest, blackest man alive -- it'll work six or seven thousand times better.
It certainly has some crispy and delicious graphics.

Hmmm I'm 22...and the ESRB is saying I can't download this.
Dreadfish
that's funny; i was finally trying to see this series this week.
oh, and:
"...will feature a hip-hop soundtrack with appearances by The RZA."
sold. WU-TANG FOREVER!!
