At first I thought Asshole Dog was a solid choice. And then I realized he had absolutely zero offensive capabilities. So I thought about it for awhile and then came to the conclusion that that was the beauty of Asshole Dog; he doesn't really do anything but piss you off. A pissed off opponent can only make them messy, uncoordinated and all around bad. Thus, comboed with even a subpar team you can achieve easy wins. And that's what a draft is for!

So, of course, I chose Asshole Dog.

my initial reaction on best draft day pick was the long tetris block...but then i thought about it...there was nothing worse to have the screen almost completely filled up and you NEED the T shape, but of course you get the long tetris block which leads you to your death and a horrible remainder of the day. the piece you rely on to help you win can also be your worst enemy.

having said that, the asshole dog takes the cake...when it comes down to crunch time, id place my bets on the dog that doesnt die.

I'd have to go with asshole dog. Solid Snake is awesome, and probably my favorite character next to Chun-Li (Mmm, thighs. She could draft my pick), but asshole dog is definitely memorable and even worse, you can't kill him. If this draft actually lead to anything, asshole dog would definitely annoy the other characters.

I completely amazed as to how random the choices of this draft have been selected. In all interest I think all 32 should be represented, just by a link to the argument. Some of the ones "who made solid, defensible picks for great value at their draft positions" made fairly short, and in my opinion fairly dull arguments based on solid nothing! Still Ruy Hayabusa gets my vote anyday, so I couldn't care :)

I'm completely confused by exactly what everybody was drafting based on? Best character at/in what? Development? Winning a fight? Nostalgia value? Obscurity so that OMG, UR SUCH A REBEL? Whatever is funny to you at the moment? Seems like all these and more were the basis for picks. If you do this again, that should be made clear to all drafters so we have a less...eclectic mix.

Depends on which Tetris block. The L-Block is ridiculously powerful, although its hook still requires quick thinking on the player's part, while the S and Z blocks, while interesting as a concept, aren't very functional and can really screw up your game. The O block is just another one of those boring same-old blocks, and the I block is...well, it's block Jebus, here to deliver us from the growing pile of shit that we're sitting on before it blows up in our face.

On their own I would have voted for Snake. But Asshole Dog was propped the best. Can't argue against it. I don't think another game character has ever taken as much abuse with so little effect.

I one ruined a friend's weekend by telling him that there was a easter egg in Duck Hunt. I told him there was a single vulnerable pixel in one frame of asshole dog's animation that would kill him, but you had to be quick and precise...

Don't think he ever forgave me.

(Think my choice would have been C&C's Cane. Guy can basically use only his charisma to repeatedly raise armies powerful enough to -almost- take over the entire world. And he can't be killed.)

I don't even know what the Draft is, being a Brit, but I was asked to pick someone.
I think Owen's instructions and method ensured that we didn't have obvious choices, we all had to pick not knowing what other people picked, and no one wanted to have to pick again, so I think that meant people deliberately opted for non obvious choices.
I made my own choice based upon a character who is a staple of video games, bt always seems to get overlooked.

Solid Snake was the steal of the draft. Asshole Dog from Duck Hunt is great, but a bit of a reach at the position he was taken. Definitely overvalued.

Though if it makes the the rest of the drafters feel better, almost everyone reached in the first round of today's NFL draft, so good job matching the "experts".

My pick would have been Sargent Johnson. His leadership skill have gotten many a man through battle and with so much dry cool wit he could be an action hero. His sniper skills are unmatched, although in the few months between Halo 1 and Halo 3 his aim got shakey but that's it. And he never died.

Like, ever.

In Halo 1 he would fight to the end and still appear in the next level. He could fall off one of many cliffs and still come back. You could actually walk up to him and shoot between the eyes and see him fall to the ground. What happens when you come back? He's gone. His body didn't disappear. You know what happened? He got up and then beat you to the next level. Who else can survive so many head shots (besides Payne)? He survived a Flood attack due to a preexisting medical condition known as Kick Ass (or Boren's Syndrome). After the Pillar of Autumn was set to go boom, he was off in the desert kicking it with an Elite. He didn't care. As soon as you think he's blown to hell a you see a Pelican flying around the ring's wreckage. Guess who's on board? That's right. SJ.

In Halo 2 he kept the truce between humans and Elites strong and piloted a Scarab through the Brute's territory and helped take out Tartarus.

In Halo 3 he rescued the Chief(!) and when he was captured he demanded Keyes kill them both for everyone else. Unfortunately he was unsuccessful and had to escape to fight later. But when he came back he was already lasering Flood and saving your hide. When he talked back to Eyeball 3000 he was blasted by a super powerful laser, but he still wasn't dead. He then saved you (again...) from Spark but you had to take his laser and steal the show because you're a jerk. The last you see of him the control room is collapsing around him. Shows over right? You never actually see him die for sure, do you? No one checked for a pulse. and we don't see where his body goes.

He can't die because he has be around to save your ass in Halo 4.

I would have thrown Ramza Beoulve into the mix myself. Aside from having the capability to master many different classes and a slew of abilities, ranging from the calculator's mathematically induced destructive magics to ridiculous amounts of damage from his duel wielded fists as a monk. In addition to his versatility and power though, Not only does he manage to save the world, the poor guy gets no credit for it anyhow. He gets screwed over and double crossed time after time, but still he takes care of it all in the end.

Course, if you want to not worry about the storyline aspects, you could still easily argue for a FFT character in T.G. Cid. That guy was so brokenly ass-kicking powerful it wasn't even funny.
