I'm looking forward to your nitpicking Mike. From what I've read it looks like they're close, but there's a fair amount of pop-in on the 360 version due to the lack of hard drive.

I'm getting this one of PS3, but I would like to read the feedback anyway. I'm saving the remainder of my 360's lifespan for the few cool exclusives hitting that system this year.

People should be happy that it's coming out on Xbox and PS3. It generates more revenue which will allow any company to make a better game. Multi-platform releases are crushing any amount given for exclusives and are a huge benefit to developers, especially one like R* who will put that money into their games.

As for fanboys, find something better to do than horde animosity for a technology company.

@JorgieX: But the game has gone from being Playstation exclusive, to timed exclusive, to coming out on both systems at the same time with extra content going to Microsoft. The frustration that most people see is more that this is a game that became what it is on Playstation. Yes, there was GTA before Playstation, but it wasn't the same as what it is now. Now, despite that, XBox is the one getting special treatment. It's almost as bad as Beautiful Katamari being XBox exclusive. At least GTAIV is still coming to Playstation and it is a game that still would have made it eventually without Playstation. Katamari probably would not have gotten a chance if it weren't for Playstation and it really isn't getting the appreciation on XBox as it would have gotten on Playstation.

@Pornosaur: Things ship different days and you will obviously have stuff beforehand but some stuff still doesn't ship until the last minute. They release everything on the same day, the earliest they can for some things, so everyone knows when something comes out and also to entice them with a ton of new stuff while they're there.
Well, that's the answer I always got. It's got holes but it's pretty good. Thursday seems far more logical though, but business never made much sense to me.
Let's just all agree on "tradition" as the reason.

@Erwin: I'd agree with that Erwin, but doing some slave time in retail myself we usually have it before the monday. I think you would get more "on the fence" buyers if you had stuff out on a saturday or a friday. Dude looks at the sunday best buy add and goes and buys game because he is bored sitting at home on the couch during baseball season. I think you would sell more releasing on a different day, that's all.

Platform exclusives are inevitable in today's gaing market. The sad thing is that they hurt both the consumer and the manufacturers of consoles and games. We need to see a move towards an industry agreed standard for one machine.
What makes this difficult is the rate at which the technology advances for games compared to other media. However, were calm heads to prevail, Both Sony and Microsoft could get together and build a machine with an inbuilt lifespan of ten years, then they could both focus all their money on making games for the platform, leaving themselves better off financially, and the consumer better off in terms of choice, having only to choose the great games and not worry about the console.

There's usually "XBOX" on top of the word "LIVE" and (sometimes) the "only on xbox 360" stamp ext to it. @mescalineeyes: B.C. Rich's high-end guitars are perfectly fine. BCR takes a lot of crap from having crappy low- and middle-end guitars, but the NJ Deluxe series have neck-through construction, EMG pickups, original Floyd; there's not much more to do. I've read discussion boards and the like, and while a lot of people share your opinion about their quality, those who have actually bought one or tried one have had a change of heart. Sure, they're foreign-made, but my cheap Pacfica is too and I have zero complaints about it that aren't to be expected from a low-end guitar.

There have ALWAYS been console rivalries. Admittedly the NES/SMS war wasn't as bad as the SNES/Genesis war, or what we're facing today, but that was largely due to the market crash.

The internets have made these arguments FAR more wide spread, and rabid, due to the anonymity of the whole thing, but they've always existed. Don't fool yourself into believing otherwise.

Note that the term "Playstation baby" isn't suggesting any brand loyalty, just someone who wasn't around to remember the 8/16-bit wars.

Anyway, in game Informer they were talking about how once after the gamer boots up theres like NO loading screens at all, and I think that was for both systems. My opinion is across the 2 platforms there won't be any noticable diff in the graphics, its the extra DLC that will be different. But there's really been no clear word on WHAT the DLC will be, hopefully not just a few map packs or extra weapons.

Granted that I haven't always made the best decision when buying consoles (read always as never), when I was little there was never any doubt or uncertainty. Back then, as soon as I found out about the competitor, I knew I had chose the wrong platform. Fanboy reactions had nothing to do with my decisions. I always just bought what I thought looked really great, except since I was a kid and there was no internet, I had no idea what the alternatives were. Now, I scroll through game forums trying decypher all the trends in public opinion. Maybe I should just stop going to game forums. Would make things a lot more innocent. For me, the 360 version holds just as much merit as the PS3 version, but for me, I just happen to rather have it for PlayStation. It 'feels right'. Or some shit along those lines. People call it fanboyism, I call it familiarity and experience. Sure, they can rag on the PS3 all they want, but it doesn't change the fact that it's not a bad system. In fact, when properly used right (i.e. GTA) the games are as good on both systems, or even slightly better. It just so happens that it usually doesn't come out on the happy end of that. But for ONCE, it does, and I took the gamble of pre-ordering the PS3 version, and then I'm reading that the decision won't be in vain.

Point I'm raggedly trying to get at is that the reason I got it for PS3 isn't because "PLAYSTATION FTW!!!" it was a simple choice of do I buy it for a system I know is gonna be good (360) or do I put trust in Rockstar Games to not put shoddy effort (never have before) into my primarily used system. My trust in R* was well placed, and I couldn't be more excited to have that game in my hands Monday night (midnight launch...)

If you click on the tag now it'll say "Whoops" but some 10 people seemed to have been able to comment on it. That whole post is just for something that's optional. Read this post again. Tomorrow we're going to get nitpicking and comparisons about the two versions of GTAIV. Doesn't Kotaku do the same thing that a lot of commenters here do? That is by no means wrong. It's informative of course. But don't kid yourself into thinking that Kotaku is a "safe haven" from fanboys. You're on the internet afterall.

@thaKingRocka: It IS region-locked...but you might be ok. You didn't specify which 360 you own- if you have an NTSC/J console or Japanese/Asian spec, it'll play the PAL version, as will (obviously) a PAL console.

I grew up playing my brothers nes sega and super nintendo (and PHILLIPS CDI while it lasted,)but playstation was the first one i owned it had just came out and i was 12y/o.(my bro go the 64) I loved the PS1 then the first day the PS2 came out i got it on the first day.(it was easy back then) and i got close to 6 years out of it and it blew everything ps1 had out of the water. So naturally i got the PS3 the day it came out (had to camp at walmart. i will never do that again. My point is i have always been happy with the system.

That being said. i had an xbox, it always worked great but kinda lack in games, (halo 2 and ninja gaiden are my only memorable experiences) but i still got a 360 right when it came out cuz i wanted the "next gen experience"
i have had 2 rrod and im on my third 360. and i enjoyed gears of war, Halo 3, rez, and im looking forward to fable 2, and ninja gaiden 2, i played mass effect but couldnt finish it. i have tried bioware games one after another but never make it past a week of play, i want to like them i just dont.

now as far as GTA its always been on playstation with me. My brother sold his 360 for a PS3 so ill be able to play with him along with some of my other friends on PSN. I favor the PS3 ontroller. And those are reasons im getting it on PS3.

The doubt isn't gonna disappear mate. In the end whatever console you buy, wheter it's a PS3, a Wii, or a 360, there'll be always that game that comes out as an exclusive for a console you don't have, and it will be that game that, damnit, you really wanna play.
The only real solution, as of now, is to have them all. One that wants the console with the most exclusives will probably buy a 360 (actually a wii, but the vast majority of wii exclusives are shovelware, so...), But then the best exclusives for this year are coming on the PS3, so he'll find himself stuck with quantity over quality, but still, if he gets a PS3 he'll still find himself lacking some good exclusives on the 360. And even if he gets both, there are those 4 or 5 good games on the Wii that he doesn't wanna miss... So in the end, yeah, the only solution is to get them all and have fun :D

Listen, yes, GTA has had its history with Sony and the Playstation console but it comes down to this, if it was meant for the Playstation 3 only, it would be a Playstation only game, but the fact is, it is NOT a Playstation only game therefore it was meant for BOTH the Playstation 3 AND the Xbox 360.

So, with that said, stop throwing insults and slurs at each other for something that is completely ignorant. Both consoles are awesome and show a lot of progress in technology since their last installments. They both have their weaknesses and strengths as with anything else in this world. Now I'm not saying stop comparing the two or whatever, but what I am saying is do it a civil and more mature way and not acting like an asshole because you know there will not be any outside consequences. Discussing things civilly is great because you get to learn some things that you did not know about before and it gives you the knowledge to make a better choice that will suit you when it comes to a matter such as which console to buy. I'm getting a little fucking sick and tired of the holier than thou attitide a few people have on this thread. They say things like "what does it matter what console people get it for? it's an awesome game, just be happy it's coming out." I'll tell you why this doesn't make since in the real world. This is probably the most important game we're going to see this generation. The sales of this game on the 360 and the PS3 could very well end up being an indicator of how each console is going to do. A shit load of people who are only going to be buying only one console this generation have made their decision partly, or even entirely, on this game. It is important. When people say "I'm getting it on the Playstation because it was meant for the Playstation," it's gonna piss some people off, including me. I don't know who is saying that it isn't a matter of personal taste or opinion. I think we can all agree that it is. But the thing is, this opinion is going to affect how many copies of which version of this game are bought. And you can bet your ass that every gamer, developer, and game journalist out there is going to be watching the sales like a hawk. Nobody can deny that. The performance of this game on the PS3 and 360 may very well affect the developement cycles of many future titles, and determine if a few go multiplat or not. Personally, I didn't see brand loyalty playing as big a factor in peoples' decision about which version to get as it really is. This fucks with my original calculations. This causes stress for me. I know that being pissed about it isn't going to change anything, but I just can't help but be pissed with the way some people think.

I think we've seen that the market can support both the 360 and PS3 and you can be confident that great games will come out for each. I don't think it would be a bad rep... or rather... the only people who would find it to be negative would be the ones caught in such a trap.

There are two main things people get hammered for... "first post" and losing it in the comments.

You can be a fanboy without getting childish about it, and you can point out someone's mistake without ragging on them about it. Whether one chooses to do it is up to them. So if kotaku, or anyone else for that matter were to offer cake, and then execute everyone who takes a slice, who could blame them. After all, the cake IS a lie.
