Jordan Mechner Trademarks Prince Of Persia Prodigy

Jordan Mechner created the original Prince of Persia. Guy then did a sequel, then an ill-advised 3D version, then stuck around to help with Sands of Time, and is now involved in the upcoming Hollywood adaptation of the series. So his finger's kept squarely in the Prince of Persia pie. So it's little surprise he's just registered a new PoP-related trademark, for Prince of Persia Prodigy. Whatever could it be? My money's on it having something to do with the upcoming movie, and nothing to do with firestarting or smacking bitches up.

Hmmm, I can't see the prince smacking bitches... but he did however call someone 'bitch' in The Warrior Within... and what the hell kind of transformation did he go through from Sands of Time to Warrior Within?
Sands of Time = English accent, pretty young lad
Warrior Within = Sounds like he had been smoking 40 cigarettes a day since his 3-year-old birthday and he looked like shit.

Isn't the new PoP supposed to be a prequel about a younger prince? Younger prince...as in a prodigy?

@Vetterli: You'd look like shit if you'd been smoking 40 a day since your 3rd birthday. I had a little bit of a problem using a lighter at that age but man, that first smoke after nap time....good times, good times

@Vetterli: It's known as the emo-goth transformation. See also Spiderman 3. Hopefully between them they prove to future developers that this route is not a good one.

Mechner had nothing to do with the atrocious Prince of Persia 3D.
Since we're talking about Warrior Within, I have to honestly say: once I got over the inexplicable and lame tone switcheroo (which admittedly took me a few years), I thought it was a pretty great game. My only lasting complaints are that the boss battles were among the worst ever, and that the silly banter during combat always felt disembodied.
Other than that, it improved on the original pretty much across the board, and yes, that includes the music. Sands of Time's soundtrack took an easy, obvious path, but Warrior Within did the exact opposite - and yet made it work. That's a job well done.
And since I'm a sucker for time travel shenanifuns, I enjoyed the story a lot too.

Damn, the concept of a Prince of Persia/Prodigy mash-up has claimed my brain! Must fire up Sands of Time, disable the music, and queue up all my Prodigy albums...
