No XBLA Release This Week. It doesn't come as much of a surprise to learn from Xbox's Larry Hryb that we won't see an Xbox Live Arcade release this Wednesday. Not only would some poor, unfortunate XBLA release go nearly completely ignored by the GTA IV playing masses, it frees up some of the sweet, sweet bandwidth that we hope will make the Live experience smoother.

No reported slowdown on Wii-online and PSN when big titles and features are released. Why don't you XBL guys demand proper service? You gonna sit down and accept that people who aren't paying are getting faster online than you?

@LittleBigPlaneteer: It could just be they don't have anything ready that could withstand the blow GTA would inevitably throw at whatever was released.
And I don't think people would complain is Sony did it. It's not like they release anything worthwhile 3/4 of the time, anyways.

@LittleBigPlaneteer: I agree, while I do think that GTA IV will be the best thing to happen to me sense I discovered masturbation, I do feel bad for the kids who shouldn't play GTA and have to hear about it and not have a fresh alternative to go to.

@LittleBigPlaneteer: I don't know what they did during Halo 3 but I do know Microsoft reason for metering out XBLA releases is primarily becuase they promise each developer a particular media package part of which is PR on the product: press releases are on aspect of this. Don't forget live is not short of titles to release as their docket is filled for at least six months. It would be a great disservice to a product if they released it at a time where it would be crushed by other news. There's nothing sinister here sorry to say :(

@LittleBigPlaneteer:No big deal, we are not here to please the few. Just the masses, because the mass feeds your family and your employee's family.
If they did not release XBLA in conflict with bandwidth,exposure,marketing, the mass will not really care.

I wonder how much of a beating XBL is really in for?

Also just wondering, were there no XBLA release during Halo's week too? I'm assuming there was.

@MBCpeanut:
No it doesn't. The two should be completely unrelated.
Here's the logic: A big game is coming out, so because of that, we're not doing our regular release.
I mean honestly here, if Sony did this shit, we'd already be at 100 comments screaming foul. A game release should not interfere with the release of XBLA. Maintenance is another thing.

@LittleBigPlaneteer: It appeals to a LOT of people, though. It makes perfect sense.

Wait why isn't this a surprise? Because GTA was released? Is that really the reason why they're not releasing XBLA or is there another reason?
I think it'd be terrible if they're holding back XBLA release because of a game that does not appeal to everyone

@Lov3:
Because PSN has seen so many big titles released and Wii got a decent online service?

poop. i always look forward to the xbla releases. most times, they're a miserable disappointment, but every so often, there's a diamond in that there rough. after last week, i was really hoping for something good. maybe i'll just grab marble blast at 400 points.

Crappy news, but it makes sense, I guess. Then again, I wonder what the odds are that they would have released an XBLA game that I'd buy. The only XBLA games I'm looking forward to are the 4 Capcom remade classics (Commando 3, SSF2T: HD, BC: Rearmed, 1942), Soul Calibur, and Vigilante 8: Arcade, though I'm sure there will be something worth buying in between those releases.

I seriously doubt it's because of performance issues. Unless the game were SFII HD, an OMGNEWXBLAGAME isn't going to put any significant additional strain on the system. It's not like they're shutting down the rest of Live and saying "oh and also you can't download any old games or demos this week".
It's more likey because anything that comes out this week that isn't GTA or Pilates DS is going to be utterly ignored, and that's never a good foot to start out on. How long is it before they consider a retail game a failure these days? Two weeks?
