Operation Darkness Operating Darkly
Posted by Mike Fahey at 10:30 AM on April 19, 2008
When I posted new screenshots of Spectral Force 3 yesterday, several of you mentioned that you'd rather wait for Atlus' other upcoming Xbox 360 game, Operation Darkness, the tactical RPG that answers the age old question, "What if their were zombies and werewolves in World War II?" These screens mainly deal with the inner workings of the Success developed game, due out June 24th in the States, but still. You asked for Operation Darkness, you got Operation Darkness. Atlus must read this stuff. Ooo, next time ask for a pony!

@Gutzman: Guys gotta make money somehow right? ;D
In the JP version he was voiced by Akio Otsuka (Snake).

Thanks for posting this, Fahey! I can't wait for this game ... I actually like the graphics and the action of the camera as it moves, although I suspect it may make some people motion sick.
Ah, a nice SRPG ... and, I just found an anime cel I had been trying to get for years, the day is ending better than it began (work ... ugh).
Here's some of the game in motion:

@Maldron: You know, WWII makes a lot more sense now that you mention that. Of course we had to defeat the Nazis, they had freaking Werewolves! Now if they can just pull a Resistance Fall of Man and find a way to put aliens in there....

@onidavin: If you can put up with the ok graphics and rather odd gameplay mechanics, the game isnt too bad.

I love how the "What if...?" games are comig back :) This is a lot better than games we have already seen 5 or 6 times, just with different characters

The concept sounds shit-hot. The graphics look a little lackluster. I'm not expecting anything spectacular from a TRPG, but if I have to stare at the screen for hours as I decide what to do I'd like to have some nice details to look at. I mean look at that first screenshot, welcome to the most boring desert combat ever, even the dramatic camera angle can't break the doldrums.

Eh, at one point I was kind of interested in this game, but it's shaping up to be rather ordinary IMO.

Davin want shoot guys. Strategically! Witzbold, since I know you'll post here (it's Atlus!), what was your verdict on this? I remember we talked about it once.

Sounds like the Hellsing manga, in terms of story. Great tactical look, by the way.

MAN is this game ugly. Port it to Wii, and I'll buy it. Cause it works that way.

@Witzbold: Tanks are easy! Use rockit lawnchas, or werewolf powers, or fireballs... pretty much everything except regular guns and grenades will tear them apart. It's those stupid battlebot wannabes that are difficult.

ima skip spectral force 3, but going for this and Valkyrie profile(for the PS3). No fret though, check the game out it was originally devved on a 360 so chances of it going multiplatform are still alive. It is still unknown why they jumped ship to the PS3 but considering I have both it doesnt bother me much.

@C-Stick: At the start of the game they are a BITCH to kill. Most folks I can imagine will get quite pissed off with it.
I own the game so I pretty much know bout how "easy" it is to kill them at first.
You gotta remember the rocket launcher isnt exactly easy to get at the early parts of the game.

@Libo: I do. Fun graphics like Disgaea's make a game more interesting than, say, the really chunky gross ones in Spectral Force.

might as well port it to the Wii. I can't see myself plunking down 60 bucks for this when it looks this bad. The game might be good but it could be better with Wii controls.
That is if my damn wiimote would keep the cursor on the screen for more than 5 seconds. I swear everything else on the thing works except the ir sensor. The bar works too. Now I have to spend $50 on Wiiplay just for the controller.
*sorry I just needed to vent.

@sooiee115:
Goddamit now you've got me thinking of a Hellsing game. Where I honestly think having a Wii version would be awesome (the two helhounds come out of Alucard's arms and you can control them while they eat everything? HELL YES!)
Alas, this game, from what I've seen, is NO Hellsing =/ It's not even up to El Hambre or Valentine Brothers' level of badassery -_____________-
