Puzzle Quest 1.5 Gets Named, Detailed
Posted by Brian Crecente at 6:00 AM on April 4, 2008
After asking fans of the Puzzle Quest franchise to name their new expansion pack, D3 was inundated with more than 500 suggestions. Today they settled on the name Quest: Challenge of the Warlords - Revenge of the Plague Lord.
The runners-up names were Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords - Sorceress of Malbec and Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords - The Scourge of Antharg.
Revenge of the Plague Lord will be hitting Xbox Live arcade this spring and include four new hero professions: bard, rogue, ranger and warlock, as well as a new area on the Southern Map which includes more than 25 new quests, 50 new spells and 40 new magical items.
The expansion pack has players taking on Antharg, the Lord of Plague and brother of Lord Bane.

@The Whaleman:
The expansion is only for the 360 version, no other versions are getting an expansion.
That is why my naming suggestion was Puzzle Quest DS 2.

@Klaymen: The Mac version is out, sold online by Transgaming. It's kind of buggy with about half a minute to just start it... but besides that it runs fine.

This expansion feels annoying... since the PS2, Wii, PSP and DS versions will probably need a full new game to implement it.

This all sounds very lovely, however, I wonder how it will affect the (already) wildly unbalanced multiplayer. Still, I'm ridiculously excited.

Quest: Challenge of the Warlords - Revenge of the Plague Lord? Really?
As much as I like giving gamers a say in things, somehow naming is falling through the cracks. Project Origin? Revenge of the Plague Lord?
Also, what happened to that Mac version that was apparently rated a while back?

So close!
My submission was "Noun of the Adjective Noun" I feel kind of ripped off...

@jayntampa: ditto but DS.
Pretty sure I won't buy this, but Galactrix will definitely get my money.

I'm still upset they didn't choose my subtitle. What was wrong with Gauntlet of the H4XX0r-Knight?

I am, thankfully, over my Puzzle Quest addiction.

Ugh... All those names feel utterly generic to me.

I hope they release a special lower-priced pack with both games. I already purchased the PSP game, and I'd like to play the expansion ... but, I don't want to pay full-price for the original again. Hmmm ...

Sweet! I always have to play a bard whenever it's available. Must be the masochist in me.

Does anyone know if Puzzle Quest 2 will be on XBLA? Not this expansion, but the totally new one that was posted about a couple weeks back....

I was a freak for this game on the DS, but never picked it up on XBLA. Does anyone know if they rebalanced the Warrior? With fairly easily obtainable items and stats, you could one-shot most anything/anyone at high levels.

Any word on whether or not there will be a bump in max level?

Am I the only one who keeps thinking the new title is actually Revenge of the Plaque Lord?
Battle for control over the vast battlefield of dentistry, fighting other dentists, as well as the terrifying Plaque Lord and his minions, gingivitis and periodontitis!
Yeah...they should SO make a dentistry puzzle game.

Why do I get the feeling that they finalized the name weeks before even announcing the contest?

Hell, Firefox has a built in spell checker... no excuses for hot dogs!

@lionkitten: Puzzle Quest has been on pretty much every single platform currently in existence, and it's made them a ton of money. Not having the new one on every platform once again would be seriously retarded.

@lionkitten: Galactrix? I think they mentioned XBLA for that one.
@Lawya: Never played a high level warrior, but there was balancing done. The most visible was adding cooldowns that required a certain number of real turns to pass before reuse.

@jayntampa: I know what you mean. I have it on DS...
However, I must say, the XBLA version is quite nice. Just the re-balancing of items and spells made the gameplay, particularly Human Vs Human gameplay, a whole lot better.
Additionally, true, ranked online matches are pretty damned fun.
I definitely looking forward to this expansion.

@Lawya: Yes, the Warrior was rebalanced for the XBLA version. They closed most of the major exploits, i.e. Deathbringer and the Firewalker Staff.

I want this game so badly, but like others here, I already own the portable version. If this is released for the DS at a reasonable price, I would definitely get it. Serious DO WANT!

I've been trying to find a reason to delve back into Puzzle Quest, and an expansion is the perfect excuse. While I used a warrior previously, I'm highly intrigued by the new classes they are introducing, especially the warlock. I can't wait for it to hit.

What they really need to do is release an update on a GBA cart for those of us who have it on DS. It doesn't support the Rumble Pak, so it's not like that port is being used for anything important. And so far, the only DS games I have that do make use of that port are either Rumble-supporting, or they have some unlockable that requires a full-fledged GBA game to be inserted at the same time (I know the non-movie TMNT DS title, and Shrek Superslam both have unlockables that require specific GBA game carts).

It's going to be pretty hard to top Lord Bane's cheapness. My guess is Antharg will have a move that costs one red mana that turns the entire playfield into glowing skulls.
