Realtime Worlds Seriously Considering APB For PS3
Realtime Worlds' Grand Theft Autoesque MMO APB (All Points Bulletin) has already been announced to be in development for both the Xbox 360 and PC. But with $US 50 million in their pocket, Realtime Worlds is considering all of their options. And that includes Sony's PlayStation 3. Studio Manager Colin MacDonald explained:
Yes, we'll be looking seriously at [APB on PS3], but that doesn't mean it's going ahead, and it doesn't mean it's not going ahead.Yes, but does it mean that it's not not going ahead? That's all we want to know!

don't do it guys! haven't you heard? they have metal gear solid 3, home, killzone 2, resistance 2 and little big planet. ):
they don't need another potentially great game!
xbulletholes
PLEASE!!! PUT IT ON PS3!
doooo itttt.....

@globones: REAL TIME WORLDS GAMES ARE MADE BY GUY WHO MADE GTA.
ManjiKengo
I finally convinced myself to buy Crackdown used the other day... how the **** did I not see how great it was back in the demo days? Maybe cause it was a lousy demo... but Realtime Worlds is awesome. They've got my money vote. And by all means, spread the love. This time there won't be any Halo 3 beta tokens to help you!
Xiedo
APB and The Agency could be quite the one-two punch.
...if The Agency is as good as it looks and comes out within a year...
fuchikoma
@Paladin58: That's reassuring. I figured that they probably wouldn't let the franchise die, though I wouldn't have been surprised, because I don't know how many people just bought it for the Halo 3 beta and totally missed out on an awesome game. I didn't know if a Halo beta-less Crackdown would get many players, even though it should.

@Seruza:
This game has been in the works since about 2004-2005. I remember seeing an artists website and she linked to the images that she drew for the character concept art back then.
Just because you just heard about the game now, doesn't mean it JUST started production.
RTW
"Am I the only one who saw "APB" and thought of the old arcade game?"
@homerj: Nope. I'd love to see how they'd implement the Confess-O-Meter in a modern game.
TickleMeElmo
@peAr_nectAr: All that they've talked about is that there isn't going to be a sequel in the near future (which for them I don't think is that long). They're busy with this for now, and when they are done with APB (which is turning into a very interesting-looking MMO), then they'll be open for talk of sequels to their other franchises *cough*Crackdown*cough*. :P
Paladin58
I have a 360 but it'd be awesome to see this come out on the PS3 as well. Especially if they're all networked together. Can you imagine the trash talking? :P
Leathersoup
@rotcepsurt: Ahh! You just destroyed my life! They left the damn thing totally open for a sequel. Nooooooooo!
This APB better be damn good, then!
peAr_nectAr
IMO, I already think that this game will probably be one of the biggest blunders in gaming history. A $50 million budget and all they have is a completely un-inspired game with possibly the worst itle ever (who in the general public would find the title 'All Points Bulletin' appealing?) and the only way the game can describe the game play as a GTA mmo? Saints Row seems more appealing than this game does.
(sorry for rant)
globones
Now only if they can get this cross-platform... Mmm that would be awesome, but impossible (reguarding Ps3 to 360.)
Kaizuden
I hope this comes out on the PS3 because you know it will sell and some of the devs worked on GTA in the past so you know the game will be good. So why not share the love with PS Fans too.
BlackIceJoe
@Blooregard Q Kazoo: Your confusion, as someone stated above, is that you're mixing up the definitions of "sequel" and "follow-up".
"Follow-up" just means that it's the project that they're doing after Crackdown.

@Blooregard Q Kazoo: [kotaku.com]
It's got supercop enforcers. Doesn't that say enough?
Cchrist
I did, I've not seen a quote from the studio saying this a follow up to Crackdown. All I've seen is press speculation.
Blooregard Q Kazoo
Follow the link! Click on the pink APB and read the previous Kotaku story if you missed it.
I think the game sounds pretty damn neat.
Evil Tortie's Mom
Need a quote from someone from the studio that states it's a follow up to Crackdown, please.
Blooregard Q Kazoo
class platform play... make it so. Then the real system wars can take place... online!
Kyle81
@Seruza: It's been in development for a lot longer than just recently. Try 2005.
Paladin58
@Seruza:
"as an mmo junkie its funny to see this game is slated for '09. Less than two years of dev on an mmo = piece of shit"
Not true. The game was announced almost 3 years ago.
And its recent showing at GDC 2008 impressed a lot of people.
Also, everything I've read on the game has it still slated for a 2008 release on PC and Xbox 360.
Lastly, if PS3 owners get to play then cool. I was pleasantly surprised to see a general "yeah, let them play too" reaction from the obvious 360 owning commenters. Maybe there is hope ...
DARTH_TIGRIS
@Blooregard Q Kazoo: Yes it is.
Cchrist
@Sentientv2: valid point. hopefully something they put into consideration

One more reason we need a one console future.
archibaldleech
I saw a few clips of APB in a little documentary done by the guys who do Consolvania (only the best fucking Games show that has ever existed, ever, but most of you will never appreciate it because the guys speak in heavy Scots dialect)
It looked pretty sweet.
For those who don't know, realtime Worlds are the guys who made Crackdown, and instead of simply making a sequel to Crackdown, they're making this game.
The trouble with Crackdown is that it took too long to buld up a reputation so that by the time it was universally accepted as being teh awesomez, they had moved on to another project.
Cruithne
This is great. The more, the merrier. Both consoles aren't quite "in dire need of exclusives" anyway.
Ashurahori
Am I the only one who saw "APB" and thought of the old arcade game?
Made me thing of a MMO version of it. 1,000's of people driving around clicking their mouse button as "arrest".
homerj
@rotcepsurt: That's a giant kick to the heart man, real sad...
scotty
Great!
PS3 having mouse and keyboard support, and mod support it's the right choice for this kind of games.
symphony_of_the_night
APB? What's that?
Gambare
I must admit that I didn't know much about APB either. I've just been to Realtime Worlds website and even there, information is very thin on the ground. The little there is does seem interesting though.
Even though it's not a sequel to Crackdown, I'll be keeping this on the radar.
And Realtime, DO release it on PS3 as well, spread the love!
Lord Vetinari
@rmeehan17: Here's your link. I know, I'm heartbroken. :(

rotcepsurt
@rmeehan17: Last I heard MS came back to the table too late with an offer on publishing it and Realtime had already moved onto other things.
rotcepsurt
@Blooregard Q Kazoo: Sure it is. It isn't the sequel to Crackdown, but it is Realtime World's follow-up.
Ess
It is the follow-up, but it's not a sequel - they're different things.
I'll be playing it on my 360 on day one. Crackdown is one of the most fun games I've ever played.
The Dude
@Blooregard Q Kazoo: I wouldn't even call it a spiritual successor. It's more like an MMO version of GTA.
TaggarT6
this is all well and good, but where is my Crackdown 2?!?!?!
rmeehan17
@Cchrist: It's not the follow up to Crackdown at all.
Blooregard Q Kazoo
Subaru wrx Police car!? I'm down.
But damn those be some jagged lines, Turn up some FSAA please!
Derigor
most ps3 owners probably don't care.
as an mmo junkie its funny to see this game is slated for '09. Less than two years of dev on an mmo = piece of shit
Seruza
Makes Sense..though I wonder how this will stack up against GTA4
TaggarT6
I can't believe most of these people don't know what APB is...
Sigh, this game needs more attention...
scotty
APB is the follow up of Crackdown. The rest i didn't get.
Cchrist
Its most definetly probably maybe not not going ahead unless it definetly doesnt not go ahead which is maybe probably going to happen.....possibly.
Modus_Operandi
Charlie brown, you're so wishy washy!
I hate runaround statements.
CaptLtrl
As long as they don't ditch the 360 version, I could not care less.
TOWER_JUNKIE
@RTW: Remember mouse and keyboard supported for PS3.
Sentientv2
im confused what is APB? a game or game company or summin? and why are there policemen in the picture?!
charley_mcd
GTA IV online but with RPG elements?

Sentientv2
Would be nice to see it on the PS3, but I still say MMO's, and especially a shooter MMO work better for the PC. When more people have a PS3 or 360 than a computer, then we'll talk.
(Also when analog sticks become as accurate as a mouse.)
RTW
PS3 presence would be much appreciated. I'd buy it. I'm an MMO junkie. At least I get to the point where I purchase it, play it for a month, and then decide I need to return to the real world.
Sentientv2
i never heard of it >.>
can i has info on it plz?
Akmed
@scotty: Yeah I'd rather have it on 360, I really don't or should I say won't use my PS3 for anything other than final fantasy, god of war, devil may cry - except for 4 - metal gear solid, and street fighter.
DarkFestim
It's not necessarily not not going ahead.
>.>
SmilingPolitely
Wait. What? What's going on? Where am i? Why is there a australian Kotaku? Why are we here?
Most confusing article EVER!
Cchrist
Sharing the love on PS3?
Whatever, as long as I get it on 360.
