Resident Evil Zero Dated For Japan (And Only Japan)
Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 11:20 PM on April 18, 2008
Japan-only Wii version of Resident Evil Zero has been dated for, well, Japan. The GameCube port will hit The Land of the Rising Sun July 10th and will retail ¥4,190 (US $TK). You know, one good thing about these Wii ports is that they're pretty cheap. Even though it's Japan-only at the moment, if it sells, you can bet your arse Capcom will release it elsewhere. Maybe in your town, too!

@WordMan: I dunno. RE0 was no REmake or RE2 (let alone RE4), but it was more engaging than CODE: Veronica and the spin-offs. About as good as RE3, I'd say.

I'm confused how the Wiimote would be used for Resident Evil Zero.

Zero, but not REmake. That's bothering, considering Zero was so lackluster it forced them to drop the old RE game play and go the way of RE4.

This game was all pre-rendered backgrounds with fixed camera angles, they might as well print more copies of the Gamecube original.

I want to see a direct sequel to RE4, involving Las Plagas. Just use the same engine and put it on the Wii. It could be the start of a Kennedy/Wong spin-off series. Their cat and mouse antics could make for an entertaining few games.
This? Not so much.

I played this when it came out and it never hooked me enough to even get past the train part.
I'll play through any other RE game anytime but I've never even liked this one.

Yay for Rebecca, boo for ports. I don't see this making it very well on the Wii, unless they radically redesigned the gameplay. Then it may have been intriguing.

Doesn't this one have the fixed camera like all the other RE games? What could the waggle even add?

I can understand a Resi 4 port, but why a Resi Zero?
...oh, I forgot. It was the only game in the original continuity series not whored to a pulp.

I never played the GC version of the game, but if the port is anything as good as RE 4 was, then I might have to pick it up.... if it comes to my home town of Nesodden, Norway... or i could just go to Oslo and pick it up :å

i never got past the giant worm boss in the beginning, because i guess i used up to much ammo or something, i only had like 20 bullets. maybe i'll buy the GC game, since i've beat every other RE game besides the Time Crisis ones...

@J.A.: Every RE before 4 forced them to make the change, not just Zero. The formula was getting stale and the hardware limitations that forced the origional gameplay didn't exist anymore. Code Veronica was a step in the right direction and Zero just proved that they couldn't go back.

@anonomaly: You know what, the game could actually be played like that as the second character was originally AI controlled ;)
You could use the wiimote to select positions for them to take up and shoot from, or even add a two player coop mode (something which could have easily been added to the original).

What's the point?
I thought you could play GC games on the Wii.
Man, you could do so much stuff on the Wii, why the hell keep porting everything?

Many people in Japan who have the Wii now, didn't know about the Gamecube or any of it's games.
Most games for it aren't on shelfs, if any Gamecube games are even in a store.
So this is a cheap port for Capcom to sell to people who will find about the game for the first time. Yes they can search for it cheaper in the original form, but most won't because they simply will never know about it.
Again, it's not for the Yanks or Brits or the rest of the world who know about Gamecube games or can find them without much trouble.
