Matt Damon's So Not Interested In Gaming
Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 6:00 PM on May 2, 2008
It's not that Matt Damon doesn't like the action-heavy Bourne game, it seems he just doesn't like video games! Lev Chapelsky from Blindlight says they've tried to get him in games before, but Damon's not all that keen. Blindlight is responsible for helping to put Robert Downey Jr. in the Iron Man game and Edwart Norton into The Incredible Hulk game. According to Chapelsky:
We've been doing this for over eight years — we have more experience in this field than any other company — and by now we've made offers to just about every Hollywood name you can think of... When it comes to Damon, we've [made] several game offers to him over the years and have consistently found that he's not interested in working in the field.Betcha didn't think of offering Damon a Myst-like puzzle game now did ya?

From the angle of the hand in the picture it looks like someone else is mopping Damon's brow. I guess having an entourage means you don't have to do anything yourself.

Matt Damon in Team America is more Matt Damony than the real Matt Damon. MATT DAMON!

I guess there are people who don't admit they DO like video games.
I have seen him play video games during shoot breaks in one of the DVD extra features.

@DugDawg: Well, games featuring real actors as voice talents that's not based on a movies can be really good though. I really liked Patrick Stewart in Oblivion for one... no matter how limited his role was. And Lance Henriksen does a splendid voice role in Mass Effect.
If Matt was smart he'd treat chances to do non-movie games the same way he'd chose movies... but wait... does Matt really have a voice we'd even like to hear in games? Now that I think of it... he doesn't have a very interesting voice performance in most of his movies.

I dunno, let's not all jump on the F*** Matt Damon bandwagon because he doesn't want his name and likeness associated with a "celebrity" endorsed video game.
Because, I mean, honestly, how many video game ports featuring real actors, musicians, etc. actually end up being good games? I can remember about one: Goldeneye 007 for the N64.
Almost always, however, these games are total garbage: **cough, like anything associated with 50 Cent**.
So maybe Matt Damon just doesn't want his name and likeness associated with a game that is statistically likely to be total garbage -- or for that matter is a first person shooter, where people like Jack Thompson and others will claim it's corrupting the youth and promoting the clubbing of baby seals in Alaska.
Yeah, I'll admit it, I agree with Matt Damon here.

@DugDawg:
Not buying this excuse. If Damon can star in films as horrid as Stuck on you and The Brother's Grimm, he should have no issues providing a voiceover to a videogame. Hell, Charlize Theron, Thomas Jane, Robert Downey Jr have provided voicers for games. Has it detered their reputations?
Besides, Damons seems completed uneducated with games since he deemed that the Bourne Conspiracy videogame (teen-rated third person stealth game) was an overtly violent "FPS."

Because obviously, a Myst-style puzzle solving game works really well with a Bourne game.
Maybe we can play a Tetris-based game that'll be the new Iron Man game. We could call it Tony Stark's Alcoholic Bottle of Fun! You have to make a solid line and then Tony drinks that amount out of the bottle, and if you get rid of 4 lines, Tony Stark gets all super powered and we get bonus points. And there'll be a special tequila worm item that lets you get really plastered and lets you play a drunken Iron Man rescue mini-game!
Ah, yeah, I could totally see that happening.

Who cares if he's not into games? I'm a fan of Matt Damon, and I'm not gonna jump on the hatewagon cause he's 'uneducated' when it comes to games. He's an actor. He acts in live action films. He doesn't want to do voiceovers for games. Move on.

@Salen: Because we all know all there is to Iron Man is Tony Stark blowing things up... you know, one would think that with over 50 years of character development you would focus on that instead.

It doesn't say he's not into games. It says he's not interested in appearing IN games. And if he actually plays games, who can blame him? He's probably terrified of lending his face to a steaming pile of movie-cash-in crap who's biggest draw is featuring his likeness.

@zoesch: True.
On the plus side, I figured out how to make a Myst-style game for a Bourne game. It would be much like Yahtzee's beloved adventure-puzzle games where you get to select what you do, what item to use, and what to use it on. The only real puzzle to solve would be to "Use Gun on Man", a lot. And maybe occasionally using "Use Car on Man" or "Use Martial Arts on Man".

I disliked Myst but the concept well executed I'd play. Matt could do that.

Quantic Dream the team that made Indigo Prophecy and are working on Heavy Rain said before that they wanted Matt in the game yet He said He could not be because the graphics were not there yet to make him look real.
So may be it will be just a little longer before He puts himself in a game.

Isn't it obvious. The last game he played and liked was Myst. So he can't get off that wagon. He's still living in 92. His memory of gaming is Myst. So in his mind he thinks, why can't all video games be like that? Matt just stfu and go away.
