Burnout Paradise 360 Bogart Resurfaces
Posted by Mike Fahey at 4:00 AM on May 13, 2008
Well that was certainly one hell of a long week. After Criterion recalled the Bogart patch for Burnout Paradise on the Xbox 360 due to the update causing frame rate issues with the game, the suggested somewhat wishfully that the fixed version would be available the following week. The process wound up taking a bit longer than expected after they submitted it to Microsoft on April 29th, but now it's finally online and working fine. Once again, Bogart is pretty much the patching and bug-fixing update that lays the foundation for the upcoming Cagney, Davis, and Eastwood content packs, which introduce new game modes, motorcycles, and a host of other nifty features to the game.
360 Bogart is online now! [Criterion]

@ShirtGuyDom: Although to your points credit, the ability to patch games does let developers release games too early because they "can just patch it later." Other than that though.

I'll be going back to this while waiting for a GTA IV patch to solve the freezing issue.

@GoKeithGo: No, I remember the days when console games were disadvantageous over PC games because you had to worry about not being able to fix bugs and not being able to easily get free extra content.

@GoKeithGo: Yep, and I much prefer it.
Not only do these patches fix bugs that sometimes shouldn't have made it out of QA to begin with, but sometimes, like in the instance of Wartech, they are used to change character's strengths after you've already spent hours playing.
I don't want my gun to do less damage then it's been doing for the passed 2 months because you, the developers, decided it should be a less powerful too late.
On the other hand, games never looked so good, so it's the price we pay. Still haven't picked up Burnout Paradise, I would really love to but I have a "number of games at one time" rule so it'll have to wait.

I'm glad I didn't go nuts playing the game and finish everything like some of my friends did (1000GS). When I get back to the game i'll still have more to do with even more new stuff. But racers only last me a small amount of time before I move on to other games.

@GoKeithGo:
It'll go both ways. Developers will be a little less fickle about what goes out, knowing they can just patch bugs if they pop up. And on the flip side, those bugs will actually get patched. Even the ones that would have gone out anyway.
It's 6 of one, half dozen of the other. But in the end, I think it's certainly a step in the right direction.

Patches and updates are a good thing in most cases. Allows you to fix crap (like exploits in online games) and add new content like we are getting for Burnout.

@GoKeithGo:
But then those console games would ship with no hope of an update, barring a complete product recall.

@GoKeithGo: I do. It meant that if you got a buggy console game, you were stuck with it. Frankly, I am glad console games can be patched like PC games (no, we won't want a console version of Battlecruiser 3000 ^_^).

at least patches can come out now for console games. rather than being stuck with a busted game, we get fixes.

I think being able to patch games cuts both ways. If you can't patch generally you have a more rigorous QA. But with development costs and times being what they are now, I think the pros are in "being able to patch" favor. Question: can the Core X360 receive patches without a HD attachment?

@GoKeithGo: I never saw that as an advantage.
If you don't want to patch, don't go online mkay? ;)

*and then not have to fix it later.
Way to go, brain. (I guess I need to patch that post)

I am just saying that I think companies have gotten lazy by the ability to patch. I'd prefer they release a product that isn't broken and then fix it later.

@PSWii60-Fanboy: There was this thing called Q&A - when your profits were on the line, strangely, game developers put more of an emphasis on it.
Now that they can release now and fix later, corporate suits demanding X as release date have even more pull.
What ever happened to 'It's done when it's ready.'?
