Battleforge's Drawn-Out Battles In Action
Posted by Mike Fahey at 2:20 AM on May 15, 2008
Crecente seemed to be rather impressed with EA's CCG RTS hybrid Battleforge the other day at EA's event in San Francisco, and I can certainly see why. The battles indeed look massive, especially when the big guy is just plowing through the troops towards the end, and seeing the actual cards pictured has given the rabid collectible card gamer in me what I can only describe as a raging card-on. This is exactly why I've never been quoted on a video game box.

@Andy D.: vid worked fine for me, no sound due to being at work, but played fine.

@DugDawg:
I was thinking more along the lines of Demigod, but Supcom/Fantasy probably would work better.

This game is looking better each time I look at it, a mix of CCG and RTS sounds like a great idea. Will it be an eye of judgement thing, as in you could buy expansion packs via realworld or DL; or are the "cards" simply the in game mechanic for summoning critters and upgrades?
Although they dont show true "gameplay" as in how you make your army and move them around, the game looks very good.

@vanderblade:
Agreed. This better be out before SC2 if it even hopes to have a chance.

I've stayed off the CCG and the RTS pipe thus far, this may draw me in.

Looks cool in a Supreme Commander meets fantasy sort of way.

Mmm....I thought the Total War series did a good job in letting you manage absolutely huge armies on screen, while keeping a good sense of strategy on the battlefield.
Hopefully there'll be a sense of balance between the big bad monsters and the poor little footsoldiers on the ground. Soldiers = fodder is fine and dandy, until everybody figures out they're useless and no one builds them anymore. =(
