The Incredible Hulk And Stan Lee's Rage
Posted by Mike Fahey at 2:40 AM on May 28, 2008
Why do I continue to post these behind-the-scenes vignettes for Sega's new Incredible Hulk video game, despite the fact that they hardly every offer any real new insight into what goes into creating a game of this magnitude? It's all about Stan Lee, really. The man fascinates me, and the Hulk is a big part of why. The man is always cheerful, always courteous, always polite and clean...you just know that somewhere inside him there's a Hulk waiting to come out. I won't rest until I've got a video of Stan Lee screaming "F**K" and punching something. This is my quest. It'll probably never happen, but it's good to have a dream.

@Eville1: Hardly "i know a girl who knows a guy". I'm not going to give away her name, if that's what you mean (and she's as old as stan lee), not on-line. But she worked for him before she owned her own company, and while normally he may be polite, when it comes to issues of authority he's a total dick, as in his way or the highway. I found it strange too, but that's what she says.

I actually liked the first Hulk movie since it was...different. I like the comic style cutscenes and the dramatic way they portrayed the "action" parts. Yeah it was disappointing but I liked it nontheless. The last parts were total crap though because it was just nonsense.
Looking forward to the new movie, hell hath my wrath when it disappoints me again.
Well there's always Batman which i have been waiting for for about a year already. Goddamn viral marketing

@Kanik: Let me give you a hint: the song is about a saviour riding through the night, armour torn but still shining, eyes gleaming like fire. And at the end, everyone falls to the ground and adores him. 'Cause he, like, killed the void.
So, you decide...
*sigh* This is what I get for having a long-haired, beer-brand-T-shirt-wearing headbanger of a friend when I was 16. So much brain space... wasted.

I actually got to meet Stan Lee at the San Diego con when he was plugging Mallrats. Very cool experience. Because he was just at a regular booth and not in one of the meeting halls nobody knew he was there. I got to talk to him for like 30 minutes. (Also got him to sign my X-Men #1)

"The Evil Abyss of the Void!"
I can't decide whether that's the most ridiculous phrase ever, or if it's incredibly deep to the point that it can touch a person's soul.

Well, even though I grew up around the Marvel superheroes written by Stan, one thing that has always annoyed me is how he will often take credit for creations he, at best, had co-created. Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko had huge grievances with him over that issue (in fact, in Ditko's newest book, The Avenging Mind, he points out that the first Dr. Strange story ((a five-pager in Strange Tales #110)) was drawn up by him before Stan ((who claims to have created it)) even saw it).
While I used to take many of the claims with a grain of salt, the evidence seems to have piled up over the years. That's not to say that Stan Lee hasn't created anything (something that Kirby maintained in the mid 80s in an interview in Comics Journal), but I think that all the public adulation has gone to his head.

Why's Hugh Hefner talking about The Hulk again?
Oh, and he wants to know what Gamma Ray is? How 'bout the most awesomest power metal band in History?

"We fall to the ground and we pray 'cos he's the one!
No demons left in this world since he has won!!
Oh hear what I saaaaay!
...
Now praise the one who'll destroy
The Evil Abyss of the Void!"
(Why, oh, why do I remember these godawful lyrics. WHYYYY?!!)

I'm waiting for an Iron Sheik/Stan Lee video crossover.
Two titans enter. One of them will leave humble.

I know a woman who used to work for stan lee when he was in magazine publishing. Apparently he's a TOTAL dick. Really. And also knows nothing about business (which is obvious from the fact that he gets few royalties) or what the public wants. His success is a fluke, due almost entirely to the comic commission's neutering of DC and other companies.

I've unknowingly been with you on your quest. I want him to unleash the most awful string of swearing and perhaps even misogyny and racism. My only plan to get this to actually happen: get Stan an XBox Live account and Halo 3. He'll fall in line with the rest in no time.

@RET_Ghost: Oh, and The Illusionist. While not all that bad. (It did have my favorite Jessica in it.) Everyone kept saying,"Wait, this isn't the Hugh Jackman/Christian Bale movie?"
@Hauler: I liked Death to Smoochy as well but only once every year. :D

@RET_Ghost: Although I really enjoyed the movie people seem to absolutely despise Death to Smoochy.
I think my favorite Stan Lee appearence had to be his guest spot on The Simpsons. I saw the episode twice within a day of each other this week and he still cracks me up when he tries to turn into the Hulk.

I remember his little spot in the movie Mall Rats. He talked about how all of the characters he created were aspects of himself. One of the coolest parts of that otherwise goofy ass movie.
