A More Sensible Wii Racing Wheel
Posted by Mike Fahey at 3:40 AM on May 23, 2008
Tired of putting your hands in the air and waving them like you care only about getting to the finishing line? Too lazy to craft your own stable Wii racing wheel out of everyday household items for us in Mario Kart Wii? Well then head over to Success-HK, where they have recently released the Blazepro Realistic Racing Wheel for the Wii. Using the magical power of suction cups, the Realistic Racing Wheel attaches to any smooth surface for that not-nearly-flailing-as-much feel, with the added benefit of giving your tired arms something to rest on. As a special added bonus, the wheel detaches from the base for air-driving action.
Of course it might not be the best quality product on the market, but you can't beat the price. The Realistic Racing Wheel can be yours now for only $US 5.87, plus shipping. Quick! Someone buy one and let us know how it is so we don't all make the same mistake!

It's not that I'm too lazy to craft the wheel mount for you guys. I just don't have the time.

The shipping is a minimum of $16 for me, and goes up to $25 (US), so unless this becomes a little more local I'll pass.

@dowingba: Most stores are charging $10. (This includes Best Buy) $15 is the MSRP (and thusly Gamestop) price.
Looks useful, but since most of my gaming is done on the couch (and not on the floor with my legs under the coffee table), the suction cups have nothing to adhere to except my legs.
So to me. Useless.

Does it autocenter? Because that is the main concern when it comes to driving games.

6 bucks?? Wow...
Probably too light, but nice try anyways.
Exactly what I think Wii Wheel lacks: a fixed pivot.
It's just too weird to keep waving that wheel around in the air...
But maybe something 10+ bucks with a weighted structure and stuff... dunno if it's really worth spending more with Mario Kart though. Never played it.

@Gunloc: "f anybody here has played MKwii and found themselves drifting the wrong way into a turn because of the motion controll..."
Shit, man. That has to be my biggest gripe for the wii wheel. You'd think after all the testing that they'd perfect it.

@kw4k: There are 4 suction cups underneath its base.
I have the other version of this wheel and I found it to be no help at all. Actually I lost a burrito bet partly because of it. My main gripe with it is thats if you turn it past a certine point the spring inside binds up and you loose all resitance. When that happens it makes you think it's broken but eventually it will correct itself.
Besides that it's fun but kinda pointless. If anybody here has played MKwii and found themselves drifting the wrong way into a turn because of the motion controll... yeah this wheel won't magically fix that.

I saw some of these when I was in HK a week ago. The plastics look cheap but I don't have a copy of Mario Kart so I wasn't interested
I was able to touch them, and it does feel like the price it was going for. Didn't get to try it in-game though
and there might be different brands for this wheel since I also saw a black one

Hey, how about, and I know this is crazy, adding USB compatibility with existing wheels! So for once in my life I can use something I bought for more than one specific use!
Seriously, I'll use the remote where appropriate but just lemme use the PC steering wheel if I want to.

@M: Well it'd be more realistic if you had to lift and then shake the table that it's attached to in order to do a trick. I assume lifting a go-kart with you riding it in order to do a flip in mid-air would take some serious strength.

Well I tried to take one for the team and place an order for one. I don't even own a Wii but my Roommate's girlfriend does so I figured I'd pick it up for them and invite myself over to try it out(just like I did with House of the Dead 2/3). I created an account and got as far as the shipping method. Apparently this is one heavy piece of plastic because the cheapest shipping method to Philadelphia is $25 USD... I guess I'll pass on this and still invite myself over for some standard arm/wheel flailing.

It still looks uncomfortable to push the B button. And will you still be able to do tricks in MK if it's attached to a surface?

But for 6 bucks!? Nice.
