Crappy Look At Potentially Cool Wario Land Shake
Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 6:00 PM on May 30, 2008
Take a gander at the recently announced Wario Land Shake, which, crap scan aside, looks pretty great. The game will apparently have hand-drawn character animation, sport 20 stages and mix-and-mash straight up D-pad and buttion pressing with Wii-mote shaking. Squint at the above scan to see what kind of shake-action the game has.
Haven't had enough upcoming Nintendo game scan stuff? Hit the jump for looks at promotional images for Fatal Frame IV and Rhythm Heaven Gold.

@108: Wario World was made by Treasure? Damn, I never knew that.

Seems to (fundamentally) resemble Treasure's Mischief Makers back on the N64!
It's been known for a long time that Treasure is making something for the Wii, and they also don't seem entirely afraid of digging up and polishing their old gameplay mechanics (the Bleach games on DS are reworkings of their old Yuyu Hakusho game on Megadrive, and Guardian Heroes on Saturn); also, Treasure did a Wario Land game before, on the Gamecube.
It was very boring!
This looks funner, though maybe only because it's 2D.
Maybe it's Treasure????
I should go downstairs to 7-Eleven and read the Famitsu (?) this comes from!

20 stages? I want something around 90, like Super Mario Bros 3 and World.
And from what I can barely see in that image, it does look cool. Keep it $35 or under and they're guaranteed a purchase from me.

Holy moly. This looks superb indeed.
Imagine that a real 2d wario land game on the wii. Instant purchase for me.
Hopefully all those pesky transformations of wario won´t be in it. Never liked all those.

@My name changed for an unknown reason: It's not bad since Warioland 4 had only 18. However, Warioland 3 and 4 have really good levels, and they are really wide and full of secrets (especially 3), so if Shake follows this tradition we have nothing to worry about. Nice to see Wii finally becomes less casual platform.
But 50$... It's quite a lot for a 2D game, I agree.

@Ashurahori: Yeah, it's certainly the best Wario design yet (Wario the Thief<_<), and it'll be much more beautiful since the game is for Wii.

@feiz: Yeah, it looks so. However, there's a girl from "Tap Dance" and a bear from "Pachi Pachi Bears", so the game will have at least somehing from the predesessor.
Argghhh I WANT THIS GAME

Yes! I needed something to wash the taste of master of disguise out of my mouth. It wasn't a bad game, it wasn't great either "absolute meh!" is how I would discribe it. What kills me about it was that someone actually tried to write a story to this thing, with characters and plot twists and shit. It sucked HARD! You could tell it wasn't made by Nintendo from all the happenings in there. Wario like Mario only needs and excuse to get up and do something, Mario must go save the princess and Wario must go raid new worlds for more treasure to add to his hoard. Unless its one of the mario RPGs(Wario rpg?) I can't really care for the story. I mean really, Wario sees a guy on TV and get jealous of him and actually INVENTS??!!! something so he can go to where he is to compete with him stealing. From all of the wario games i've played i'd never imagine Wario would waste his time with crap like that.
Wow, quite a rant this turned into.

Hand drawn character animation?
Awesome, I love well made 2D games, and the Wario Land pedigree is a good one. The shake mechanic reminds me of Mischief Makers, which also brings back good memories.

Maybe this is a WiiWare game? Does it say anywhere if it's disc-based?

I do like the hand drawn 2d stuff, but it seems that they're saving a whole lot more space using 2d rather than 3d graphics...space that could be used for more levels. Now, I'll take quality over quantity any day, but Super Mario World had 72 levels and was still jam-packed with secrets, and that was three console generations ago.

Rhythm Paradise: "Anyone can enjoy rhythm."
Well if anyone can say it it's them. Never have I played a rhythm game that's both so compelling for a seasoned vet of these games but so approachable for a total newbie too. Looks like they have some new games after all too. w00h00!

Hopefully this will be as awesome as Wario Land 3 was, but 20 stages? I really hope that each of those stages is made up of multiple levels, because 20 stages is tiny.
