It's probably true though. I mean, notice how Sony didn't mention anything in the area at all in their press release but Microsoft went right out and said it. That's usually how it works so unless Sony comes out and says they're lying motherfuckers, I'd say this is probably true and not just spin.

Why are people surprised by the supposed 2:1 ratio? Isn't the ratio of 360's to PS3's nearly 2:1? Even if this was once a Playstation franchise, that has nothing to do with this. It's pretty much an obvious thing that if there's twice as many consoles out there, then there's a good chance twice the amount of games will be sold.

Am I going crazy, or is this not shocking?

Microsoft definatley moved more copies, i went to my local gamestop today to buy GTAIV, and they were sold out on the 360 version, but still had some PS3 versions left, not many, but still some there

hardware however, the NPD will tell us when the time comes (and i need to get my ass to gamestop tomorrow and buy GTAIV)

There is twice as many broken or working 360's out there (who knows?) It is no surprise that the 360 version is outselling the PS3 version. I'm enjoying it on PS3 which all that really matters for me personally.

@LittleBigPlaneteer: the two important things are attach rate and hardware sales. if ms wins software by less than their hardware ratio it is a loss, because many 360 players also have ps3's, which means some are choosing ps3 over 360.

hardware is obvious. i think it will have a huge long term effect on ps3 due to ps2 owners having assurance that their system at least has gta4 on it now. 360 long term effect will be big or maybe actually bad if ps3 gains too much momentum. (yes, im specifically ignoring 360 selling more hardware because of this game because i dont think it is possible)

Hmm, not sure how fair of a fight is has been with MS paying extra for exclusive content and then acting pleased they sold more? Well of course if people have the choice between two close to the same versions their going to pick the one with extra goodies..
They should have both had the same content so that the consoles could speak for themselves.

It's roughly 9:5 ratio excluding japan, and 2.5:1 to in America where the game is most popular, so 2:1 is good for both. Microsoft are the only one that have been advertising it and some people apparently even thought it was exclusive on 360, plus the exclusive downloadable content and 360 being £100 cheaper than ps3, means microsoft are maybe even a bit disappointed.

They might be commenting only on American sales, I expect EU to be more like 1.25:1.

I'm really glad I got the 360 version. Lack of voice chat would have been awful for this game. Last night my friends and I had a BLAST in the multiplayer lobby for hours without ever even playing the game. We jumped in the chopper and flew over to the titty bar. Then my friends who live in NYC took me on a chopper tour of the city. We saw Central Park, Time Square, Lady Liberty, and several other things. We were talking and laughing the whole time. One of the best experiences I've ever had in my years of gaming, and none of it would have been possible without being able to talk to all my friends.

aLL i CAN SAY IS AT LEAST THE 360 version seems to work just fine for the most part on and offline out of the box.The PS3 version of GTA4 just like Assasin's Creed before it has shipped with a small boatload of bugs which has required Sony itself to step in and see if the can find and fix.
