Has anyone trash talking this compared to Harmonix's rule over the franchise actually gone through the tutorials on Rock Band? They're worse than this. Much, much worse. Don't get me wrong, Activision's trying to undouchify a total douche product, but let's not pretend they're doing a worse job than anyone else.

I can't imagine picking this up, though I own Rock Band and GH going back several versions. This ad isn't the problem, it's the product trying to stretch the already membrane-thin willingness of people to look like idiots while playing a game.

There's no way I could play this game with my old "phat" DS. Nor would I have any desire to. Especially with it making you yell at your DS, & blow your DS, & destroy your DS.

BTW, I'm halfway through Hard on Career mode in GH3! I still have a long way to go if I want to be a rock god! But, Guitar Hero: World Tour for the consoles will probably be out by then, & I'll have to start my journey all over again, or maybe try being an epic singer/drummer!

I mean, all things considered, the application of GH to the DS as described by that video actually seems to take advantage of the platforms strengths. Now, it doesn't look like anything I'd get... ever... but that doesn't mean that people that love the DS might not enjoy it.

And as far as GH3... that shit was spot on, fuckin great game I got to play while my friends who had rock band ended up breaking their drums and using GH guitars to replace RB's shitty, SHITTY guitars. GH4 is riding the curtails of RB for sure, but honestly, I LOVE the way the drums look. Its as close a match as your going to get in a video game to something like a base Yamaha electric drum set. I'm a drummer IRL, and I think its great that they're going for some sort of authenticity however minuscule it may be. And as far as all the other RB mechanics, fuck it, let 'um copy... all you people are eating that shit up, they'd be stupid NOT to do it. But from what I've seen so far, GH4 is going to have better hardware, so I'm in like flint. But I don't see moving forward, ruining the franchise.

I have had no problem with the direction Guitar Hero is moving since Activision/Neversoft/Vicarious Visions acquired the license. Yes, this "On Tour" product is very gimmicky and is just like any other accessory/game combo that has come out: Power Glove, Super Scope, The Activator ([en.wikipedia.org]).

In my eyes, it doesn't get much better than GH2 for 360. GH3 was/is a good game, but missed the boat when cross-promotional branding it with Pontiac/AXE. The potential to make even MORE money than that cash cow was guaranteed to rake in is what made me roll my eyes. "Aerosmith" seems like it will be a much better product than "Encore: Rocks the 80's." And GH4 is just their way of seeing the competition and realizing that it's time to evolve the brand.

But yeah, the ad execs who thought that promo video should be shot. I laughed, but compare it to the video that was released for GH4. That is definitely not targeting the people who will readily buy that game for their DS, rather, kind of mocking them... "You'd STILL buy this after watching this?? 'Tard." Maybe it's aimed at the people who have only a slight interest in the Guitar Hero brand... or six-year-olds who freakin' love Smash Mouth. 'Cause it was in that Shrek movie...

I'm pretty much a newbie to the genre. Having only played GH2 one time drunk at a party, I received Rock Band for Christmas, somehow, and then purchased GH3 mainly for the extra guitar. While the GH guitar is far superior, the art style is just butt ugly in that game compared to RB (only in the actual gameplay, I rather like the menu/load screens). The track list was awful (fucking Slipknot, seriously?). The boss battles were retarded. And the achievements for the 360 beyond ridiculous.

Seems obvious to me that Harmonix took all the good ideas with them. This monstrosity of an ad confirms it. Fail.

The flip screen attack, though, looks broken beyond belief. It looks like you have to sit there and just wait till it switches back and if thats the case, expert -er hard mode players beware. Still, song list in this is terrible and 4 buttons is pretty weak so there is no way I'll get it.

I actually thought that commercial was pretty funny. It did a good job of explaining the core gameplay moments and I think it was entertaining. It is done in the same vain as the GH tuitorials have always done. The game doesn't look near as fun as it's console counterpats, but it looks like a good alternative when your on the road.

I feel that they captured the feel of the GH series on a much smaller screen, but I will still not purchase a *gimped* version of the game for the DS, but I can't wait for GH:World Tour

To be honest, it wasn't the best commercial but I laughed and now I'm interested in the game.

Plus there is a peripheral which is a nice value add but I'd prefer if I could use that control scheme to play Guitar Hero on the Wii.

The ad just was so wrong. Yes, I get it's supposed to be a parody... but it was just dumb.

I think the reason GH originally worked so well was it was a straightforward, "These are the songs you grew up with/listen to now, imagine what it'd be like to rock out with a huge crowd", tribute to the *music*. The music was the star of the game.

Now with power-ups, weapons (autograph? guitar on fire?) it's slowly descending into just another video game where you push buttons.... they are completely losing focus on the MUSIC, it's turning into a game where you push buttons and send powerups set to a soundtrack.

Which is why I am losing interest in GH very quickly and will probably stick with Rock Band this time around... I'm not saying I'll never play GH ever again but they really need to pull back and look at the MUSIC.

(I'm surprised they're going back to the power-ups and such, weren't they pretty universally panned in GH3 as a dumb addition?)

There was no irony or parody in that ad. It was just pure, unadultered bad. If, somehow, parody is what they were going for then they're doing it wrong. They clearly thought that the commercial concept itself was clever (given that someone thinks yelling 'rock on' into the DS is a good idea, this seems likely). They were wrong, as all it elicited from me is an intense desire to punch a baby.

This trailer induced a rollercoaster of emotion in me. It started off being so bad, then moved into 'so bad it's good', then went back to being bad by the end. I felt drained afterwards.

It's obviously a parody, and it has genuinely funny moments. Argh! So emotionally exhausting though! Shame the game looks dire. :)
