Rogue Trooper Getting Wii Release
Posted by Mike Fahey at 12:40 AM on May 10, 2008
2000 AD's Rogue Trooper makes his triumphant return to the video game scene later this year as UK developer Rebellion reaches an agreement with Reef Entertainment to publish a new version of the 2006 Xbox, PC, and PS2 shooter Rogue Trooper: The Quartz Zone Massacre for the Nintendo Wii. For those of you who don't remember, the story centres around the Rogue Trooper, whose squad mates are massacred by a traitorous general but live on through biochips installed in his equipment, a concept which inspired one of my favourite Ctrl+Alt+Del comics. The Wii release of the game will feature a new layer of polish, with the Wii controls supposedly making for more accurate and creative kill shots. If it stays true to form, it'll be the best damn game featuring a talking backpack since Dora the Explorer: Dora Saves the Mermaids.

CTR-ALT-DELETE is a hit and miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss with me.
To many words, and, shit.
On another note, no idea what rogue trooper is.

CAD is a terrible comic. The author is a real creep it seems like, it always rips things off from other comics, and it's not funny.
On another note, though, I've never even heard of Rogue Trooper, so I can't say I really care.

A wise man once said;
"Shakespeare wrote that 'brevity is the soul of wit'. He did not then add 'unless you're writing a webcomic'."

@megaStryke: This comic reminded me why I stopped reading Ctrl+Alt+Del.
So for those that played it: good, bad?

Excellent...I thought this was a fantastic experience on the Xbox and was actually sorta similar to Gears of War in many ways. Also, it had some amazing detail.
Good to see it is getting some more love.

Along with Halo Jones, this was my favourite 2000AD comic strip.

Uh oh. You've invoked Ctrl+Alt+Del. Prepare for at least 50 posts decrying how it is uninspired, unfunny, and verbose.

Great game, a lot of fun. Also, it is BC and looks fantastic on a 360.

Rogue Trooper was such a good strip, my love for 2000AD was immense, why on earth did I cancel my subscription after five or six years!?

Rogue Trooper is one of the characters that appears in the weekly comic book magazine 2000 AD in the UK. The magazine offers a compilation of different characters and stories in every issue.
2000 AD has been around for over 25 years in the UK. It's harder to get here in the US, unless you find a comic book shop that imports it. It ain't cheap, but definitely worth it.
@Cruithne: I also loved Halo Jones for the great humor, and Strontium Dog. But Judge Dredd will always be my favorite comic book character ever. No DC or Marvel comic character can even come close.

i had never heard of this game. after watching the game trailers review, there is no doubt whatsoever that wii controls would improve the game.

@Mike Fahey: Yay VG Cats! ;)
Mister Tim Buckley has one big flaw, He can't deliever the joke or he goes one panel too far. In that named comic, it's left a bit morbid because he actually shoots himself. Hardly funny at all. End it a panel early with him threathening to kill himself and the equipment egging him on still. perhaps even taunting him on what equipment he'll become=win

The game's a lot of fun, but I'm not sure it's really suited for the Wiimote. Plus, it's like 5 years old by now.

Well, since you brought it up...
All of his characters seem to always have the exact same facial expression. It annoys me.
Anyhoo, nothing can topple Dora the Explorer, NOTHING!

I'm too late for the CAD hate bandwagon. Let me ahead of time when we all start hating another webcomic all at the same time.
On topic:
I'm in desperate need of new games for my WII. Other than the CAD comic I haven't heard much about this game. I'll have to rent it on Gamefly sometime this summer.

@Josimba: "I'm too late for the CAD hate bandwagon. Let me ahead of time when we all start hating another webcomic all at the same time."
Or you could consider that people haven't liked CAD for awhile and you're now only seeing the 'hate' because the comic hasn't really been mentioned until now.

Rogue Trooper was enjoyable as hell and it's great to see the game get a chance with a potentially new audience. It's a shame the game didn't sell too well and despite its short length (and the fact that I've already played through it a few times on the other platforms), I'll probably pick this one up to check out that newfangled coat of polish.

Rogue Trooper is a wonderful game. Lots of different ways to complete objectives- you can be tactical and stealthy or go Rambo. Glad to see more people getting the chance to play this one. Get a used one for an older machine and try it, but good luck finding one.

I'm just waiting for the litigation threats over the use of an image of the comic in a place where it won't receive universal praise.

I liked Rogue Trooper, though I probably won't buy it for Wii, but here's hoping for a sequel. I would've loved to have a larger "tech tree" with the item creation system, so I'd actually have to think about how to spend my resources, and end up customizing my trooper and such.

Rogue Trooper was a great, but sadly underappreciated, little gem. Extremely well made, very true to the source material too. Lots of old 2000AD fans who also play have been waiting and waiting for Rebellion's purchase of 2000AD to yield something decent - along comes Rogue Trooper and it just appeared on the shelf one day in-store with no marketing push whatsoever. So no one bought it. Definitely deserves another chance I think, but I'm not sure Wii is the most appropriate platform for the game.

the other thing about CAD is that quite often it's just bloody wrong. Like here. Gunnar can control the weapon he's in and could easily prevent Rogue from shooting himself.
Also check out the Resistance strip which uses the basis of "no aliens in World War One" as the entire premise of the gag. The game was set in an alternate World War 2 FFS.

Tim Buckley is an unfunny asshole
CAD is like the poorman's version of Penny Arcade, and funny thing is... there is a section in CAD that you have to pay for.
