i see 4 fingers and a thumb. the shadow line on the 4th finger is a little too dark and gives it a "cut off" appearance, making it look like the end of that finger, as if it were tucked behind her other fingers.

This is merely a trick used years over by artist in magazines. They place something wrong in their work that sometimes is or isnt very noticable. Although you might not catch it all of the time, when scanning these things your brain catches onto it and notices that there is something wrong with the picture. When your brain notices something like this subconciously, it makes your brain make a note of the picture in your head, kind of like an active reminder so you will likely remember the image and what it is about. It used to be used in many old magazines but I didn't know they still used it lol.

I think it was just a slight mixup when he was painting the shading in. the index is probably supposed to lead that supposed sideways thumb. so basically connect 4 to 5. and leave the thumb out 'cause its actually hidden behind the hands. ppl make mistakes. easily rectified. I've done it before.

It's her index finger. It looks like it's both bent and straight at the same time. There is no sixth finger, but she has a weird line on the side of her knuckle that makes it look like her finger is folded in like the rest and another one is sticking out of it.

Here's what happened: they added number 5 last, because they decided she didn't look hooker enough for them. I think they wanted to more prominently display those bright red finger nails. So the artist was all like "ill just draw this finger here no one will ever know"

The "thumb" is really a joint on the 5th finger (the actual thumb), and the stick should probably be overlapping that fifth finger for the image to make sense. I think that's the real oversight here.

It seems that in the original painting the forefinger was in the bent position. The artist wasn't satisfied and made it straight but had forgotten to correct the shading and so on...

As an artist, drawing hands holding objects is also a weird thing, especially the thumb placement. I could see the artist having her thumb being positioned in a couple different ways as he drew it. Maybe the model he used never was holding a lollipop. So he drew the hand as he saw it, added the lollipop, it looked weird so he added the thumb in the back forgetting there was still one sitting on the top of her hand. Who knows how that image got finalized with that sort of oddity in it, but I guess weirder things have happened in life. Really what does that tell us that we're even discussing a hidden 6th finger on a girl, on a loading screen, in a video game...

even without counting fingers, this picture has always bugged me, from the first time i saw it, because nothing in it lines up quite right. i mean, look. her torso's completely broken too: [img137.imageshack.us] further, what heck's with her boobs? above the shirt, they're round and pushed together. below, they're completely flat.

frankly, i've seen errors like this before, in figure drawing classes. it comes from the model moving, and the artist working in a particular direction. the problem is at least partially avoid by a more gestalt drawing technique, working from vague to specific instead of say, top to bottom. block in loosely to get the initial position and proportions as quickly as possible, and keep refining.

The way the artist went wrong was with the shading on the top finger, the one on top of the lollipop. The shading went a little too dark and too high. It goes all the way up the finger, making it look like a cutoff point.

If the shading went just along the bottom with the knuckle crease in angled a little better, it would look just like it's supposed to.

There is no way the "5th finger" even remotely resembles a thumb. Unless her thumb was cut off and surgically replaced with a finger, at a different angle, and I'm done.
