Street Fighter IV Officially Coming To Xbox 360, PS3, PC
Posted by Michael McWhertor at 12:00 PM on May 28, 2008
It's official. Capcom has announced that the highly anticipated Street Fighter IV is coming home, announcing that, in addition to the arcade version, it will be bringing the next Street Fighter to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows-based PCs. It's been cagey on mentioning anything but the arcade version since the game was revealed, but it would appear that speculation (and common sense) regarding SFIV coming home was spot on. There's little in the way of new details in the press release, but for those not up to speed on the game yet, it's required reading. Everyone else, make with the champagne and fist pumping.

God bless Capcom, PC finally gets some fighting game love that doesn't require emulation. My custom made stick is gleaming in anticipation.

@megahurtz:
Yes the HotRod uses authentic arcade parts. It's just too bad that the authentic parts it uses suck ass too.
The quality in Happ joysticks have seriously been degrading over the years as the company has taken production into it's own hands with it's manufacturing plant in China.
Then you add in the fact that the HotRod stick doesn't even use the one thing that Happ still does right (it's convex style buttons) and instead uses the inferior *shudder* concave style buttons.
So yeah, the HotRod stick is better than the X-Arcade, but not by much.

Whats with all the 360 d-pad bashing?
I love it, it's pretty much the same as the SF six button controller's d-pad... nice and smooth. The dual shock is okay but you break them in first(a new one is way too stiff for anything by snk).
I was kinda surprised about sf on pc, but I think a mod community for sf would be awesome. That and you don't have to worry about having the same console as someone you want to play.

@DugDawg:
Agreed!
This isn't really a shock to anyone I expect. Capcom knows that we know that they're going to release this on the consoles. Just a way to make it official I guess.
Now Cross-platform online.
Now, when is this coming out?! Want to play some Stree Fighter goodness. It's going to be legendary!

@RonCey: Have you used a Hot Rod? I'll agree with you on the X-Arcade. That stick feels light and cheap with knockoff plastic parts and I wouldn't touch it unless you absolutely needed a 1P joystick or *really* wanted it for the console adapters.
The Hot Rod is fantastic though. Real arcade parts, solid construction, no problems with the encoder. My only complaints against it are that it only uses a PS/2 interface and that the controls are hard coded. I can't imagine disliking the Hot Rod unless you are nuts for Sanwa ball top sticks and the Japanese buttons.

@ZinkO: zetta fast: Right, but if you don't have a console, you need to use the PC to actually run the game and buy a console-style controller (probably one for the 360, since they have Windows drivers and such officially, even though the D pad sucks like a six-fingered prostitute in a GTA game).

Kotaku is full of PC-bashing turds
get a clue you morons.. PCs are more versatile in the input devices departament and matchmaking services like GGPO/2DF have already tens of thousands of players..
the PC platform (always) allowed people to innovate.. while you're stuck with the great companies that don't feel like improving stuff for the ignorant masses who don't even know better.
GGPO has replays embedded in web-browser, live spectating support, better netcode than shitty half-arsed XBLA games etc.
you can actually play without input lag even @ ping 200-250ms, compare that to playing Hyper SF on XBLA @ ping 50.. and you'll feel like getting f*cked in the ass already

@Chris85: All of your complaints are based on the graphics, so I doubt you've played the game. For fighting games I'd rank gameplay >>>>>>>>>>> graphics. The people who have played the game can describe it in one word: Fun. I'm not worried.
---
The press release said SFIV is for a new generation of gamers. When Viper was announced people called her an SNK outcast. With El Fuerte people accused Capcom of ripping off Virtua Fighter. Once Rufus is officially announced people will say he's a Bob (Tekken 6) clone. I wouldn't be surprised if people said Fei-Long, if he's in, to be a copy of Marshall Law.
It's actually good to know this is made by Capcom and not Namco or Tecmo, where they don't care about catering to certain moe fantasies. I'd gladly trade Sakura for a badass Samurai like Mitsurugi. Street Fighter doesn't need a shoto-clone in a schoolgirl uniform, nor does it need characters like Dan. Ryu, Ken and Akuma (if he's in the game) are enough.
@PATSCRU: And what you said is exactly why fighting games are hardly ever given a second thought by most gamers. The controls for fighters are simply too complicated for the casual gamer to pick up and play. The DS d-pad is the best one out of the current gen consoles. People don't need to be discouraged by being told that the only way they're going to get anywhere in a fighting game is to get an arcade stick. Not a good way to promote a genre.

@ZinkO: zetta fast:
The PC actually has better control options than consoles for fighters. Arcade style boards like the X-Arcade and Hot-Rod provide an excellent experience. Also, there are crap loads of PC gamepads out there in addition to adapters to use console controllers. Anyone into PC gaming will have a gamepad or two lying around already.
On another note, still not buying this. Love fighters, love SF, hate the garbage art.

Please look at Ryu's reaction after getting kicked in the stomach. He looks freaking constipated.lol. Its really bad. WHY, WHY cant there be any consistency in the story other than Chun-Li, RYU, Ken or byson? Ther are the originals but what about SF 2 New arrivals? Where the hell is T.Hawk or Fei-long? DId they die, did they lose thier ambition in fighting what happened?

@LuppyLuptonium: I really couldn't see myself even considering a 360 at this point since getting a fairly powerful Mac. Pretty much every good game this gen has gotten a PC release, so I reserve a little Windows partition and enjoy free online play.
I admittedly did consider getting a 360 for games like Bioshock and all that until my previous computer died and I realized paying a bit more for a more powerful computer would also give me all the best games this gen.
I never really considered getting SF4, but if I can ever find the PC release at around $30, I'll take it.

It won't sell as well as the console releases, but anyone with a decent computer (such as myself) would more than likely take the PC release and have a $10 logitech controller on the side. Only problem I'd see is bringing friends over and saying they'd need their own computer.

There will be sticks for the 360, which means with downloading of a driver, sticks should be for the PC

Good. Now I can maintain my strict plan of only two fighting games by picking up both SC4 and SF4.

@Nirolak:
oho, I forgot about the rest of Asia. Yes, I suppose that might make sense... dunno if they're able to expect high sales there anyways.
come ON Capcom, stop fearing the Wiiper. (SEE WHAT I DID THERE?)

Does that stage in that screen remind anyone of Art of Fighting 3?

They forgot the bullet point:
- Pick it up for PC and find nobody playing online!

@ZinkO: zetta fast: It's mostly for regions where PCs are highly dominant (like South Korea and China) and for the few enthusiasts who like to play fighting games on their PCs. Since they already made the game run on a PC for development purposes it's also extremely easy for them to release it there as a finished product as well.

I hope they release a controller worthy of Street Fighter along with the game. The Xbox 360's little directional pad is not going to cut it for me.

after all that talk about it coming to tons of systems, it's on... four. I can't imagine why anyone would want Street Fighter on PC, anyway. Wouldn't you just use an adaptor to play it with a console controller anyway?

A PC version is kinda surprising. I assume they'll be selling it through Steam. Either way, I'll be picking up the PS3 version.

PS3(and the PS2) contoller is the best set up for any Stree Fighter game. One I have a PS3 is because the controller for fighting games(the game genre I play the most). I actualy like using a PS2/3 controller more than a Arcade Stick. I can't stand playing fighting games on my 360. Still love both console.
