You Really Did Get Assassin's Creed In My MGS4!
Posted by Luke Plunkett at 8:30 PM on May 13, 2008
That Ubisoft/Kojima April Fool's joke was pretty elaborate! Snake running around MGS4 dressed as Altair, looking for all the world like it was actually in the game...so would it surprise you to hear that it wasn't really a gag? Yeah, that's right. It was announced at the MGS4 wrap party today that MGS4 players will indeed be able to unlock an Assassin's Creed outfit for Snake (we won't tell you how), which were it not for the silver moustache and trademark cigarette would have you thinking Altair himself had time-travelled his way into the final Metal Gear title. How's this happening? Why's this happening? Who knows, the mind boggles.

That's neat. Always fun to have these crossovers. The Jak and Daxter/ Ratchet and Clank stuff is always nice.
Can't wait to unlock this crap, yo!

@excaliburps: ...And before you know it, we're wrapped up in another flaming war over what is slowly becoming a new SSBB trend. Game character cameos best used tastefully, and sparingly, IMO.
For example, what the hell was up with that one shirtless guy on his knees in Halo 3?

If snake appeared on Smash... would it be too crazy to think there could be some sort of Smash Bros reference in-game?

Uh... kay. That's different. Guess this mean Snake's gunna have to sneak into a church and then be forced to relive his genetic memories from past lives. Would that mean he'd be running around an 8 bit world while wearing a monk's robe?

I read soemthing about how the whole patriots/templars deal si similar, so they put this in the game as a nod to it.
would be even more weird if they acknoledged the games as being in the same universe/timeline.

It's a nice nod to Assassin's Creed. I wonder what throwback to Metal Gear Solid we'll probably see in Creed's sequel? At least Kojima is one of the few developers to acknowledge other great franchises within his games. Did something similar with Ape Escape as well.

@Demaar:
It's already out in Japan. Since November '07 (360 version) and January '08 (PS3 version... Don't ask me why there's such a difference in release).
Cross-overs are always fun, though.

@ShaggE: Forgot to add: ALL games need a "groups of scholars" feature.
Madden: Keep the opposing team away by hiding in a group of scholars walking toward the endzone.
Need for Speed: They can't ram you if your car is in the middle of a group of scholars!
Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego: You'll never know, because she's hiding IN A GROUP OF SCHOLARS!

Hey! Now this is nice stuff! Would be awesome if other companies allowed their IPs to cross-over. Dante/Nero to Too Human?! Kratos in Heavenly Sword? Yeah it wouldn't make much sense but who cares!
What would be more awesome is if they made some gameplay tweaks along with the skin change. Make Altair/SnakeTair be able to do Parkour...
It is a bit weird why they (Konami & Ubi) did this though. Hmm wonder what's in it for Konami...Ubi certainly reaps the good publicity from this. MGS4 really doesn't need that much push.
Yeah AC wasn't that good of a game. It's like a very pretty,acrobatic date that can only do one thing good...you eventually tire of it.
On a side note: Maybe this is a conspiracy from a hidden Kojima-Jade Raymond romance! You heard it here first!

Oh Luke, no one writes news stories quite like you. I assume that Assassin's Creed is either coming out soon in Japan (= cross promotion) or soon enough after MGS4 that a sequel will benefit from the pimpage.
Really though, the how and why don't really matter to me. It's a cool, and not really out of place, bonus.

Pretty obvious this was going to be a real thing. I doubt they'd go through the effort of creating the assets for an April Fools joke. It takes time to produce high-res assets for games these days, they wouldn't bother if they weren't going to do something with em.

I remember a video where Jade Raymond seemed particularly excited after meeting Kojima, so she must be pretty thrilled about this (but then, who wouldn't be?).
And the whole thing is somewhat appropriate: a nod from the master of stealth to the latest member of the family. Now, if Altair had been a major character in MGS4, I might have had a problem.
Unless he replaced Raiden.
("Ladies and gentlemen, I give you: cyborg-ninja-assassin Altair to the rescue!")
Anything that adds to the replay value is nice. All the better if it's a cool-looking outfit.
If this were Team Ninja, we'd have to pay for it. Oh my, what am I saying? MGS by Team Ninja? To quote my very first English teacher: goodness gracious me...

not only do jade and her team have a huge respect for kojima, kojima was also stated as being humbled by their team when they saw assassin's creed's animation system. kojima's team was actually working on something more dynamic such as AC's but found it too difficult and gave up on it.

Maybe this is a clue about MGS4 O.o
Maybe it will be revealed that in MGS3 you wasn't really controling Naked Snake, but Solid Snake in some kind of VR Mission of Big Boss' memories locked on Solid's DNA. And that's why Colonel Campbell was the voice saying "Snake! You can't do that! It'll cause a Time Paradox!" because he was monitoring Solid's actions to really understand Big Boss' motivations (then, if Solid changed something, things wouldn't reach the same ending as the real life)
Now Asassin's Creed on MGS4 makes sense? ... DNA.. memories locked... playing on those memories... Maybe the two universes co-exist in the same world, so the technology from Assasins Creed was used on Snake
You heard it here first!

So cool! Snake is a badass. Altair is a badass. But when you combine them? You get a man of such unparalleled badassery that the fabric of space-time has the potential of being torn asunder.
As an aside, I think I'm one of the only people who really, really liked Assassin's Creed. I even completed all of the "repetitive" side missions. Never did get around to killing all the Templars, though...

@Elite Wombat:
Ah yes. Hopefully it won't resort to that. People will hate things no matter what. I didn't have a problem with SSBB's cameo characters. Though Rockman should've been there.
@Nexus6:
Yes it was a good game. I did finish the game actually. I just didn't like the repetitiveness of it all. The Free-running elements and the graphics were of course astounding.
When they release the second one, I'm pretty sure I'm still going to play and finish it. I just hope they add a bit more variety and cut out the long babbles after each kill.

I don't know why it hasn't been said already, but it's obvious that Ubisoft is porting MGS4 to the 360. Konami said that they wouldn't do it temselves but they never said that they wouldn't outsource it.
