Lay Down Your Virtual Tag With the Wiispray
Posted by Owen Good at 7:00 AM on June 9, 2008
That's not R5-D4's brother, it's a modded Wiimote that a German student envisions for use in a virtual graffiti world.
Martin Lihs, student at Bauhas-University in Weimar, built the "Wiispray" for his thesis. He wants the wall to encourage graffiti artists to express themselves without the artistic encumberances of balancing on a highway overpass railings, getting chased by railroad police, or, like getting arrested.
Sounds fun and creative but people tag up real walls for a reason -- real people see 'em. All the commissioned murals, coffee table books and contests for graffiti artists provide real recognition to, but not like getting up on a warehouse wall. The essential act of graffiti is painting where you're not supposed to paint, right?

But now we can divide up into Luke and Owen factions, and battle each other to the death to decide who wrote the best piece.
Meanwhile, I'll making dinner. 11PM, I figured it's about time.

Awesome concept indeed. However, yea, the real point of graffiti-ing is to have real people in a real environment see, experience and understand what your tagging up. In that way, this kinda defeats that no?
Maybe a complete concept would include a social networking site like Facebook and Myspace only for graffiti artists where on their virtual "wall" they continously post their tags up etc..
But I digress..

@ShaggE: As above, yes. But it just gives us another place to shout from the rooftops:
Sega! Make another Jet Set Radio!
(And don't make it suck)

If anything this will just encourage people people to practice before they go outside and paint a real wall.
Could actually be a lot of fun though, painting things in a virtual world. If this came with a game it could be really enjoyable on the Wii. A game could come with-
Wait a minute...another peripheral? NOOOOO!
