Russian Publisher 1C Going Multiplatform, Worldwide
Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 10:00 PM on June 10, 2008
Russian game publisher 1C has its sights set on the global market. The company has announced two multiplatform titles: the in-house developed Captain Blood for Xbox 360 and PC and the outside developed multiplatform IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey. Says 1C Company's International Sales Director Nikolay Baryshnikov:
1C is using cutting-edge technology, including the amazing power of modern consoles, to bring superior games to every market... Our aim is to bring our games to even more players and expand our vision with cross platform development. We are embracing any new gaming technology that will improve our products including digital downloads, consoles, handheld gaming, Epic's Unreal 3 Engine, NVIDIA PhysX and DirectX 10.
Both games will be out late 2009 and will be the first cross-platform titles "from 1C to be developed and published worldwide". Seems like multiplatform is the new, big thing.

All I'm hoping for is a GTA side-scrolling adventure. Please answer my prayers.

Pretty sure the only game I have of theirs is Space Rangers 2, which is brilliant and recommended to everyone

I used to work next door to their UK main office, they have made some good money publishing Ubisoft games in Eastern Europe, and have recently acquired some serious funding from the East (i think China.
Ones to look out for.

@chaos242: How would that even work? Doesn't that just take the sandbox out of a sandbox game?

Yeah they really need to lose the current logo and the company logo animation that is featured in their games it is so mid 90's with crummy pre-rendered 3D text.

In the PR:
"...Gaijin Entertainmen...". Come on now... really? Why would someone call themselves that?
Anyways, I'm happy companies are doing more to expand the gaming industry but I hope they don't turn their backs on the PC. IL-2 from what I heard is one of the most hardcore sims available. I'm sure they'll dial it back a bit for the console version.

They published some of these weird XCOM-type games like Brigade E5, which is sort of like it but set in South America and with tons of real-life (and probably unlicensed) weapons. Sort of a cool idea, but the game was, uh, lacking polish, lets say.

1C is the king of World War II flight sims. I'm not kidding, Take a look at the IL2 Sturmovik series from the beginning. They have a devout following. The new storm of war game looks incredible. For them to finally branch out to consoles is a gift to gamers. Birds of prey trailer looks great already: [ps3.ign.com]

You got my hopes up for a minute there -- I was hoping Captain Blood would be a new version of this game:

But it's not :/

@everybest: Yes. Yes, it would. It would also take it back to its simpler, faster, zanier days.

And here I was hoping this was a remake of the old sci-fi game ([en.wikipedia.org]) instead of some swashbuckling 17th Century nonsense.

Captain Blood may be the best name for a game, ever.
