Ex-Rockstar Devs Making WiiWare Balance Board Game
Posted by Owen Good at 5:00 AM on June 16, 2008
First Balance Board Blog got hold of a rather bizarre YouTube clip that features -- women in jogging leotards? dudes with horrid combovers in corsets and black socks? -- running to a 60-Minutes style stopwatch. Nothing in the vid suggests it's a promo for a game, much less one using the Wii Balance Board, so methinks viral marketing straight away.
But BBB got hold of the video's poster and subsequent confirmation that PheroseSoft, a seven-person team made up of former devs for EA Canada Burnaby and Rockstar North, is developing something called "WiiMove". It should be available by WiiWare sometime after October this year, Balance Board Blog reports.
A representative of PheroseSoft told BBB that "the game looks to put an unexpected slant on the Wii Balance Board". Ya don't say. The video's after the jump.

@D Mitsuki:
:D
What the heck was that video? And why such a focus on the bouncing assets of metallic women without pants?

Man, it's just a matter of time before we see RockStar Games Presents: Upskirt Panty Photographer The Game.
Use the Wii balance board to get the upskirt pics that bring in the $$$$! Bend low on the board to snap shots under the dressing room door! Stretch as far as you can to reach around corners for the ultimate hidden sexy shot! Test your balance as you race your scooter away from the Segway-riding security guards during your chase for the big panty pic payday!
This whole balance board thing cannot end well.

@Coquiton: Having played the hell out of that light gun game once at an arcade, I have to say that I would buy a board if I could have that.

@CockroachMan: No, if Sony had done it there'd be acid trips and talking toilets.

@Ralff:
Hehe, a game adaptation of "Run Lola Run", perhaps?
Possibilities are out there, imo. If coupled with the Wii-Mote correctly, you could make some very interesting FPS games.
I remember a while back in an arcade, there was a light-gun cop game where you could lean left and right, and even crouch and jump to take cover. It was very, very fun to play.
The Wii could do this for a FPS. You can move around like a regular FPS, but you could use the WiiBoard to lean aorund corners, or crouch for cover. It could even be used for special sequences where you run away from an explosion or guards, or snowboarding down a mountain full of baddies...OR, have you lay flat on the board and lean around for skydiving (Using the wii mote to keep track of your arms)...or, use it for a Mission Impossible-esque sequence of being lowered down a room full of lasers to avoid!
Nintendo...do it!

That video was actually somewhat horrifying, I'm gonna go cry now.

Personally, I'd like to see an action game or something that uses the board. It'd be interesting, at any rate.

Uh, nice shirts. I think those may be the ugliest models I've seen use to promote a game, the whole barely covered bouncy and pointy nipple thing on a character old enough to be my mother is somewhat disturbing.

Looks to be like another Wii Fit. How are the Ex-Rockstar Devs going to make this interesting?

Hmm, even though they failed to actually provide physically attractive character models, or even remotely good character models, its nice to see they still paid attention to the breast physics.
That being said, I shall buy this game.

Boob physics turned up to 11 yet no hair physics. Good priorities.
At least they're keeping david lynch employed.

That's just scary and distasteful.
I would be interested in a game like Coquiton said, but this isn't going to be it. Esp. since it says WiiWare, so it's going to be small and not complex.
But a 1st party game would be awesome -- like a combo of 007, Mission Impossible, all your big action movies. Skydiving, skiing, shooting, boxing, splosions.

So it's a horror game.
Nice to see robots with bouncing boobies, though.

The video may be the most annoying waste of 1:30 I've experienced, and I've already watched the On Tour video...
