Free-To-Play MMORTS Dreamlords Launching Wednesday
Posted by Mike Fahey at 1:40 AM on June 17, 2008
Swedish Developer Lockpick Entertainment have been working on their free-to-play MMORTS Dreamlords: The Reawakening for quite some time now, but now they've dropped us a line to let us know that the game is ready for launch this Wednesday, June 18th. It's a nifty little title that combines an actual, downloaded RTS client with a web-based management system that essentially allows you to manage aspects of play when you generally shouldn't be, say at-work, for instance.
The game features three races, each with different balances between combat and management to allow players to focus on the RTS aspect they're most keen on. You can hit up the official website for more information, or hit up the gallery below for the latest screens of Dreamlords: The Reawakening.

How does it compare to SAGA?

Anybody remembers Shattered Galaxy? So very flawed and yet so much fun.

I've been testing this game for a while, nice to see it finally materialize. It's definitely changed a hell of a lot from what I was playing several months back.

Interesting, I might have a go at this. Reminds me of another MMORTS that featured you being able to play as a dragon. Not a dragon race, an actual dragon, and it was still RTS so I expect you terrorized villagers into running into other armies. Or something.

The comics on the website are really good! Sadly, I do not have a life that allows any type of "MMO"s, no matter if theire RTSs or RPGs. Still, I admit...it looks good!

...that was weird. Just looking at Lifehacker and a couple of links later I arrived and found this.

It's another free to play MMORTS, and has very low specs. (The free version does have some features locked, neither have monthly fees). Again, just in case anyone was interested.

The RTS client is available for download now at the linked site. I can't justify getting any new games with my current backlog, but if anyone is interested it's there.

How do they expect to make money?
Free to play, pay for an edge on other players is a worrying concept enough for RPG and action games, it would be even worse for a RTS.
On the other hand, 10Six was still fun... Ummm, I'm conflicted. I must admit this one has quite a draw to it.

It would be cooler if you controlled one single unit in the huge army.

Has anyone tried this thus far? I don't know about web management... I have played something similar before but this sounds different. Again, anyone tried this first hand?

If this is something like, huge world such as WoW just with RTS then sign me up. But if it's a giant lobby that you pick a server to go in with 5-10 people then Meh.
Yes i know a giant WoW world with RTS would be Epic Lag.

The concept of an MMORTS both intrigues me and scares me.

@DarkMirage:
Yes I used to love the game, I guess it's still around, but I haven't played in a long time.
Another MMORTS that's free and worth checking out is ballerium.com

I hear rumors that Aeria Games will publish the game for the North American market. If so, I can't wait! I've been playing Shaiya for a few months and I might try this one out. Only question is when will it launch?????????????

I hope you like controlling an army of green circles around, because the neon backdrop on the unit selection is blinding.
