A new Square-Enix MMORPG? After the resounding masterpiece that was Final Fantasy XI, I am simply aflutter with excitement and giddy with anticipation like a little schoogirl.

Who the fuck am I kidding? This is most assuredly going to be a waste of time and money. The grindfest that deigned to call itself Final Fantasy was such a piss-poor attempt that anyone with half a brain at Square should know better than to try and compete with WoW.

I really hate Square for the FF7 whoring, and I'm still going to hate them after this. The only good thing they've released recently was The World Ends With You and that was hardly a focus for the company as a whole.

I do not mind a anime based mmo. Just make good gameplay that is all. I did enjoy FFXI when I played. Hopefully they learned what they did wrong in that game, and implemented in this one.

It looks more like Square is advertising an anime that could be cute AND bad-ass. Oddly, the main guy looks striking similar in design to Isaac of Golden Sun. Maybe Square should create animes and then create games around them. Oh wait...Dot Hack did that. I enjoyed that though, so they've got me sold on the theory.

Some screenshots. Gameplay is apparently turn based SRPG esque, with a pokemon style creature system. However, the art direction looks like it was pooped out by MySims.

I didn't even realize anime cutscenes were still fashionable.
However, as long as this is done well (and the cliches aren't too bad), it could be pretty decent. Seems more marketable towards the Asian countries, though ... big anime eyed kids and so on ...

Honestly, Square Enix is one game developer I'd seriously love to firebomb. No other company has gotten away so well with so little talent.

Even EA Sports is lower on my list of hate since they at least have multiple franchises with totally different gameplay, while Square Enix...you've got Einhander, and then, a neverending list of roleplaying games...Christ.

@ProdigalMoon: FFXI had plenty of story to it(arguably the best FF stories next to FFT for anyone that went through them) so I wouldn't doubt Square dumping a bit'ol heap of story in there.

@Gunhaver: It's not because they are talentless. They cater to a specific group of gamers i.e RPG and JRPG fans. So it just might not be your genre. Actually, I hate RPGs. But I was a fan of the Final Fantasy series(from IV to VIII) and then got tired of the genre. If you are/were an RPG fan you would know how hard it is to create a story that keeps people playing your game for 100x hours. And from what I've seen Squeenix is still on top of their game. They make other publishers look like lame copycats.

Did anyone see the Anime "Air"? That whole winged thing at the end and even a couple of the note patterns were reminiscent of Air. The whole imagery of the girl having to leave, etc. It's all very Air-like.

The music at the end sounded kinda like the Fragile [fragile.namco-ch.net] music to me. I hope that game comes out in the US. Actually, considering the abundance of RPGs in Japan, it's surprising how few Wii RPGs have made it to America.

@Gunhaver: Thats where you went wrong, since you are latching Squareenix with Einhander. Its just their -lets-release-a-side scroller-for-shits-and-giggles, type of midlife crisis.

I thought for a minute, maybe this guy doesn't know the SquareSOFT days. No one can deny that logo, then you started talking about Einhander. Squeenix has been garbage sans the few AAA titles, which I will agree.

Japanese game trailers might be able to get away without gameplay scenes because of their focus on story. A game just isn't a game without a story. Even FFXI had a strong story, way better than any mediocre FPS game released these days.

In contrast, current Western games (aka FPS games) has crap for story, all the focus is on gameplay and graphics. Gonna need a high-res trailer to show that your game can shit out 10000 shades of brown.
