You Don't Know Jack Probably Announced For The Wii
Posted by Luke Plunkett at 4:00 PM on June 16, 2008
Yes, more Intellisponse leakage! Another game mentioned that we (or at least I) hadn't yet heard of was a new version of You Don't Know Jack. For the Wii. Not much more to add than that, other than this is a very good idea, and it's baffling why it's taken this long in the console's lifespan for someone to come up with it. No word on a release date or developer/publisher (going off the other leaks, though, we'll presume it's Activision), but they do mention a $AU 42.58 price-point.

Oh man. It's been a long time since I've seen one of these games. They were rather entertaining though - hopefully the humor remains intact in this new iteration.

This is a game that would do fantastic on XBL simply for the trash talking and competitiveness that could occur with a game like this.
I used to play this game just about every day when I was younger and I always wanted more competition than family and friends.

@twesterms 2nd: The trivia game has survived for eons (will, since the 80's at least). No reason to think it will have lost any of its appeal just 'cause a decade has gone by. So long as YDKJ Wii keeps up the tradition of acerbic host + out-of-left-field categories, no reason to think it won't last at least until you've heard all the questions...

@ggodo: For a better idea of the game, without all the Pee Wee, go to [www.youdontknowjack.com] and play one of the episodes.

@Luke Plunkett: Oh come on! I'm acknowledging the pretendiosity of it! And how's that for a Don Kingism? After a leak like this one, a good conspiracy theory is an excellent way to relax!

It sounds like it would make a better Wiiware title than a full game, If you pay $40 for this game you don't know Jack.

Eh, this was fun in 1997 and I'm sure it will be fun again in 2008 or whenever it's released for 5-10 minutes but not much more than that.

Wii is good, but a multi-platform release would be even better. And WTF about some new PC versions?!
This franchise has been left on the shelf for far too long.

Man, if Intellisponse "leaked" this information in an attempt to undermine E3 and get Microsoft to bail on the ESA, that would be insane.
It would also be hilarious, and AWESOME. So I'm going to pretend it's the truth. Cue the Mike Gallagher hairpiece photos!

@mva5580: Well, technically Activision left E3 so only their side party kind of got screwed. That and a fair share of Microsoft's E3 announcements.

@polarenvy: Actually it would be better as a 40 or 50 dollar purchase if put into a DVD instead of Wii ware. You would have more questions, voice, animations and a better experience than if it was stifled to a small footprint.
This game is just great and it's good that it hasn't changed too much over time. I remember the first one on PC in like 95(?) and then I ended up getting it for PS1 and got the home game. I guess I'm a nut for the it. The website is good too.
I hope this is true. And I hope this isn't leaking everything before E3. If it is it just means that waiting for July for it is lame. Yes I know it's an excuse but July is just soo far away than I'm used to.

The idea of having YDKJ for a console with 4 players and remote controls is wonderful. Two things would make it perfect:
1) Have monthly DLC to add to the collection of questions and keep it fresh.
2) If it is only coming out on the Wii, call it "Wii Don't Know Jack."

@Slaughtertron9000: As much as I would rather not agree with that, Wii Don't Know Jack is actually an awesome name.
I love this series. The website is awesome. Cookie better be the host and given YDKJ 4: the Ride had hundreds of hundreds of questions, back in the year 20XX or whatever, I'd like to think that this won't disappoint on that level.

Why didn't Microsoft make this for XBLA (it's perfect for Live play and DLC) instead of building Scene It from the ground up? If they want to persuade casual gamers to buy the 360, this is the sort of title they need on the system.

@fuchikoma: That was great, yeah. It's real shame it didn't stay longer than it did. I also dug their other "game shows", like Ziggurat and Acrophobia.
This needs to go to XBLA with support for the Big Button Controller. It might help sell those overstock Scene It bundles.

This was a good series back in the day.
I used to play the online web version on Bezerk. Instead of memorizing the whole disc, every week they'd drop a new game worth of questions. That kind of thing would work great on a modern disk-equipped connected console. (*cough* well, the Wii may be able to do a so-so job with its broom closet sized memory.)

So will Jellyvision be making this or a third party?
I'm guessing (and hoping) Jellyvision (considering they still own the rights to the series) but the way old franchises are being raped these days, you never know
And here's hoping it's better than YDKJ6

I love the wealth of imagination in the game industry today. I mean, I thought all those redundant FPS, sports and racing games were great, but bringing back a low-budget franchise that died a decade ago is brilliant!

@Guizzy:
FWIW I think Acrophobia was actually kind of revolutionary as social gaming goes. The game itself merely restricted access and collected survey results - it was all about the players!
For those who've never heard of it, you get an acronym (made up on the spot?) and everyone tries to come up with what it stands for, then after a short time limit everyone votes on the answers and the most popular wins. Then the next round starts... Not so hot now, but this was around the time I was playing Quake and Diablo 1 on a P100 so it was like "woah, the Internet is amazing!"
I didn't get into Ziggurat though... no idea what it was like.

There was no "leak". This was all a brilliantly designed press release, guaranteeing them maximum coverage on gaming blogs on even the most mundane subjects.
