Allard Watch: J Gets A New Job
Posted by Luke Plunkett at 9:30 PM on June 30, 2008
We miss J Allard! Real bad. We miss pudgy Allard, we even miss HD Allard. It was bad enough when he stopped hanging around the Xbox guys and was welcomed to the social, but over the past few months, he hasn't even been doing that anymore. He's just...faded away, without a trace. We were getting worried. Worried sick. But it's OK! J's popped up with a new job, and a new job title. One as aWeSome and eXtreme as J himself: Chief Experience Officer. As Microsoft's CXO (yes, a real title), Allard will be "responsible for the technical architecture and user experiences related to products and services of the Entertainment and Devices (E&D) division". Not really sure that means, but in a perfect world, it'll mean he's back at E3 this year.

@everybest: ???? It says Microsoft.
It will be nice to see Allard again, but I'm wondering if this makes him stalkable again...maybe Kotaku's unhealthy fascination with Allard is over?
What am I thinking, of course it's not. This guy wore dreads to satisfy a bet. Allard, you had us at hello.

That sounds like a horrible job with the failure rates of the 360 hardware..

It's weird, but I... do miss him? Kind of? Hopefully seeing him again will be fun in an embarrassing, yet not too embarrassing manner.

I'd class this as a good thing in general, UI's and user experience is something Microsoft just doesn't get and Allard is one of the few at Microsoft who do. So hopefully he will be able to push MS in the right direction in creating a better user experience for all it's products from windows to the xbox.

Sounds almost like J's job is going to be working towards integrating the experiences of the 360, the Zune and anything else E&D does into one big, ball of cohesive awesome.
J - first order of business - Merging the Zune and Xbox Live Marketplaces.

UX, sounds like he will deal with the tech architecture, user experience (interface and flow) and make all their Entertainment devices work seamlessly with each other. Fun stuff. Can i get a job? :)

Complaints about the 100 user limit on your friends list? Hell, whenever I manage to hit 40 or so I clear off a bunch of people that I don't actually know. Sure, it's kinda cool to be able to play with developer x or whoever, but I really just want a friends list to keep track of my...wait for it...friends.
What I wouldn't mind, though, is a tiered friends list. Put your actual friends, family, co-workers, etc in one list with one list of settings for alerts, information sharing, etc. In a second tier, throw in all those faceless people who were pretty fun to play with but ultimately mean nothing to you...The filler folks that you need for even teams who meet the rigid standards of being 1) online at the time and 2) not total assholes. No notifications, not even on the primary list, just in a back-up directory of folks that seem okay.
I couldn't imagine the number of annoying alerts, spam messages, etc I'd get with 100 friends.
