Complete Set List for Guitar Hero: Aerosmith Revealed
Posted by Owen Good at 8:00 AM on June 23, 2008
The list of songs in Guitar Hero: Aerosmith has been trickling out for about a month. Now VideoGamesBlogger has just posted a list of all 41 tracks. It looks like a typical four-hour rotation for WKRR-FM "Rock 92" of Asheboro, N.C. back in my sophomore year of high school. The non-Aerosmith tracks are bands the gang either toured with or are big fans of.
Not a huge fan of Aerosmith, but I don't hate them, so, there's no real do-want moment here for me -- except then I see "She Sells Sanctuary", which has been an air-guitargasm going back to the days of velcro sneakers. But I've already got carpal tunnel coming on like a heart attack, and I'd probably spaz before getting to The Cult's classic.
The game releases August 6 in Australia. Full list after the jump:
Tier 1: "Getting the Band Together" (Nipmuc High School)
1. "All the Young Dudes" by Mott the Hoople (cover)

6th yawn here. Good lord, I'm thankful that there is Rock Band to force these guys to innovate. Yes, people are going to just buy these games because it is Guitar Hero, but so long as we have another company putting out games, the other one will be forced to make their own product better to compete.
Guitar Hero: World Tour is trying to find new ways to innovate the genre. The result of this is that Rock Band 2 is going to have to innovate themselves in order to stay competitive.
So while they are slowly killing off the Guitar Music Gaming Genre, the Group Music Gaming Genre is going to push forward and hopefully bring us better (and cheaper) products.
To sum up...
Thank God we have Rock Band.

@Inhert: I bet like a gillion dollars to you that even with it's 85+ tracks from the get-go, Guitar Hero: World Tour won't even have one White Stripes song. Which is retarded considering that their songs would be absolutely perfect for the game.

@TRT-X: Doing it the OLD way of innovating the genre would've been for Neversoft to figure out what the fans wanted and deliver before they asked for it. The NEW way to innovate the genre is for Neversoft to implement the incremental changes Rock Band fans have been clamoring for publicly and leave Harmonix to figure out what the fans want and deliver before they ask for it.
BOOM.
Activision aren't innovating the rhythym game genre-- they're innovating innovation.

There aren't 41 tracks there are 40, since "Walk This Way" is in the game twice, one is the DMC version and the other is the Aerosmith version. However the guitar parts are exactly the same, so it's really the same song.

I have the game here, those songs are not in the right order.
I believe all the songs are in their right tiers, but they are not alphabatized.
Each tier starts with 2 other bands, then an encore by Aerosmith, then another Aerosmith song, and then ends with another encore with Aerosmith.
I forget where the Joe Perry battle is in there, but it is not the last song in the game. Train Kept A Rollin' is. And when you beat the battle you can add it to your "Vault" so you can play the whole song by yourself.
My favorite songs to play are definatly The Cults one and the Run DMC version of Walk This Way. Also Toys in the Attic is wicked

There's a lor of good Aerosmith tracks in there. I'm a huge fan of the band and I may actually get this one if it's priced 39$ or 49$ at a stretch.
I've come to the realization that games based on bands like this one need a solid infusion of new tracks alongside the old stuff to work properly. It should almost be part of the promo for a new album if anything.

Oh, and one other thing. I'd like to smack the person who thinks that Guitar Battles are, or ever were, a good idea. Seriously, they suck. Dumb Mario Kart power-ups have no place in a rhythm game. Especially since they were completely broken in Guitar Hero 3 (i.e. harder on Hard than on Expert).

Some strange omissions for an Aerosmith game, though I'm thankful they left out songs like "Angel" and "I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing."
But any real fan of rhythm games would have to admit that it's less about the setlist than what they do with it. Everyone whined about the songs in Elite Beat Agents, but most would say it was a very entertaining game. There are many songs I've never listen to in real life that are perfectly fun to play in rhythm games.
It is very strange to hear "King of Rock" in Guitar Hero, though. It's like some strange Amplitude-Guitar Hero line you're not supposed to break.

@BassForever:
I would argue that you are indeed correct: Rockband is not 'innovative' per se; however it DOES have a broader range of music, more fun to play with other people, and in general gives a better representation of that 'nebbish rock star fantasy' (thanks Yahtzee) than GH's 'sells out so fast you just see a whirlwind of dollar signs as they go by' attitude.
And RB has, by a WIDE margin, more DLC, a broader range of musical styles, and is more about having FUN rather than mastering button mashing (not to mention the DLC is cheaper than GH).
And Aerosmith hasn't been relevant since the mid-90s... I'm just sayin...

Im going to have to pass unless I can find this used for like 25 bucks down the road this should have been dlc. Even my wife who is big aerosmith fan doesn't want this game anymore and thinks it should have been DLC. Because they said the DLC from GH3 would carry over to GHWT so why are we paying 60 bucks for it no thanks.

I think we need to call the WAAAHMbluance for most of the posters here, you've yet to even play the game and you already bash it. Rock Band really isn't as innovative as people want to think it is, I honestly find it highly boring, and 95% of the DLC is awful, the difference is instead of making me pay 1-2$ for every song, I just get a whole bunch for 50$ on GH.
I like this set list alot, it has alot of good stuff on it.

@ Jnkzm4 - Exactly my thoughts.. though this would be perfect on AOTS' EPIC FAIL.
Apparently there's a high ranking person in Activision that wanted an Aerosmith game, and will probably be out of a job when the sales of this game flops. There are only enough decent tracks on this game that would have sold better than this whole game, just released as DLC for GH3. Myself, I'll be skipping this one.

You know, I'm still astounded that not a single person has mentioned that "Train Kept a Rollin" is a cover. It's a bluse/rock song from the early 50s from a guy named Tiny Bradshaw. And... It was covered and was a hit by The Yarbirds in the mid 60s first. Aerosmith didn't cover the song until the mid 70s. Not only that but about 10 big name bands have recorded this song over the past 50 years.

Man, this is a horrible setlist. I'm not exactly a big Aerosmith fan, but I like a number of their songs, and a lot of them are not on there. 40 tracks for $60 is a pretty big rip-off, too. And I wish Train Kept A Rollin' wasn't on there. Having it on Rock Band is more than enough, especially when we could've had Dude Looks Like a Lady or many other good songs.

I have to admit that with the advent of DLC I wonder why a pack that basically functions as an expansion of Guitar Hero 3 is needed to be put into a separate disc. It just seems while Rock Band's primary focus is DLC and while yes all the music may not hit everyone's tastes, I would say there is music in the game or as DLC that will hit someones taste. Guitar Hero on the other hand seems stuck in this idea of little DLC and coming out with a whole new expansion disc instead. It just doesn't quite add up to me.

17, that's all. 17 songs on this list that I would like to play - and that's being generous. No effin' way I'm paying $60.00 for that. If they made it available as DLC where I could pick and choose I'd pay $1.50 to $2.00 each. This 'game' should have been $40.00 max since it's simply an expansion pack.
This may garner a rental by me if I can locate it before I lose interest in music games and go back to GTA4 I guess...

@BassForever: "I think we need to call the WAAAHMbluance for most of the posters here, you've yet to even play the game and you already bash it."
Why would we need to play it? It's the exact same game as GH:III. Just they switched the setlist for a psuedo-Aerosmith discography.
And since the gameplay is nothing new from the previous installment, the only thing that would set this game apart and make it a go/no-go is the setlist.
I don't like this idea for the same reason I don't buy full albums for RB. I don't want the game to become an Aerosmith or The Police or The Who sim. I want to play a variety of songs.
I like SOME of Aerosmith's stuff, but not enough to warrant a full-priced version of GH.

I LIKE the setlist - it encompasses a lot of early material, which is the better aerosmith stuff anyway. The reason for the dream on re-recording probably has something to do with the master tapes as ALL of the songs included from the first albums are marked as a re-recorded track.

@FoxyGaz: You screwed us, Red Octane.
While I agree there's a lot of my favorite Aerosmith songs missing from the track list, I don't think Red Octane is to blame. They can only add the tracks Aerosmith allows them to. Since the game is supposed to let you experience the career of Aerosmith, and with the limited number of songs per venue, they must've felt these songs we're the best representation of said experience.
Either that or they're saving their best songs for a later game, expansion pack, or DLC w/ GH:WT. I'm hoping these songs won't reappear as GH:WT DLC, since I'll have them on disk already.
So, yeah, I've had it on preorder for a while and will be picking it up at midnight on Saturday. And, no, I'm not paying full price.

Aerosmith's "Get A Grip" was the first CD I owned, and I've been a big fan of theirs ever since... enough that I think the special faceplate for my plastic guitar would be almost worth dropping $100 bucks for.
This could be fun to play with a buddy who is also into their music, but I can really see this as a bargain-bin special I pick up later down the road.
I can understand the tendency to shit on this game from rabid gamers eager to bash its inferiority to RB and the upcoming GH4, but to the casual crowd, the Guitar Hero franchise is still a winner. This game will sell, particularly on the Wii. It won't be a break-away hit, but with GH4 well on its way, was probably never intended to stand on its own as much as be a stopgap title between true sequels.
Rock Band is great, I own it and have invested heavily into DLC. However, that $150+ sticker price is a steep entry to many. Better perhaps to just keep the plastic instruments to a minimum of two guitars, and just jam out with a buddy to "Walk This Way" and "Sweet Emotion".
Looking forward to a review that discusses the note charts... GH3 was way too difficult for my tastes (I suck, I'll admit it) and I found the RB charts much more accessible.
