Diablo III Webpage Filled With Trailers, Screens, Evil
Posted by Mike Fahey at 9:00 PM on June 28, 2008
Why content yourself with a blurry screen or a low-quality stream when you can get your Diablo III fix directly from the source? Blizzard has the official website for the game up and ready, already filled with pages of screenshots, a gameplay video, and the cinematic trailer, as well as concept art and one hell of an attractive aesthetic. Some of the links may not work, but we have to learn to crawl before we learn to slay hordes of bloodthirsty demons.

@slomo788: Obviously because hardly anyone has a mouse plugged in to their console, rendering the game unplayable ;)
In other words, I think it was a badly-aimed trolling attempt at PC gamers.

Marketing departments take note! This is how you present a new game. Not just a cinematic trailer, not a short video of some disconnected in game clips, with that Hollywood trailer voice thrown on top. One mood setting cinematic trailer, coupled with one long ingame clip, showing whats similar to the old games, what's new guided by a normal human voice.

Will Diablo III be playable over Battle.net? What new features can we expect?
Yes, Diablo III will be playable over Battle.net, and Battle.net will offer some exciting new features to enhance players' Diablo III experience. We'll announce specifics and go into much more detail at a later date.
top
""
Will there be a single-player component in addition to multiplayer?
Yes. In addition to battling the hordes of the Burning Hells cooperatively with friends over Battle.net, players will be able to adventure through the world of Diablo III solo. More details on both the single-player and multiplayer experience will be revealed at a later date.

What will questing be like in Diablo III? Will it be similar to Diablo II?
Our plans for the story and quest mechanics are still under wraps. We'll go into detail on those elements of the game at a later date. We can say, however, that we expect to have class-based quests in addition to the main story-line quests.

"Battle.net = free, right?"
According to the latest rumors:
-The new Battlenet will be announced. It will feature a $20/month subscription model, and that $20 will give you access to all three (yes three) Blizz games, stat tracking across all three games, a blogging/armory section for all games, etc... Steamlike functionality as well.
-Standalone WoW subscription drops to $13/month
-Diablo 3 announced with some sort of strange online model. Free single-player, full fledged Diablo game, with a Guild-Wars-esque online and random content areas. $5.00 month online fee, and characters are stored server side amongst other perks.

Is that pre-rendered or actually 3D?
I hope it's 3D. Blizzard has real power to push forward PC gaming, in that most people will do anything to play their games... and them pretty much (okay, this is an exageration) making their games run on friggin' 1998 hardware isn't helping PC gaming at all, and only helping them.

Like a couple of people have said, the "brightened up" graphics kind of threw me off. Everything I remember from 1 and 2 was dark and gloomy. It really set the mood for the entire game. Well, whatever. I'm still going to be upgrading my PC just to play this game and StarCraft 2. Necromancer had BETTER be in Diablo 3, though.

Stay awhile and listen...
Diablo 3 makes you wonder what exactly Bill Roper and some of the people from Flagship Studios brought to the table with Diablo 1 and 2, since Hellgate: London was a complete bomb.
Another thought - does anyone else get the feeling that Blizzard is treating Diablo 3 better than Starcraft 2?
More than even I get the impression that Starcraft 2 is being tailor made for the hardest of hardcore Korean players, not everyone else.
And that Diablo 3 is being made for the stupid Americans, who crave blood and murder - all by just clicking the left mouse button.
As for what I think about Diablo 3, it looks really good. My favorite moment is when the large beast at the end 'insta killed' one of the players. Ripped his head off. If it were an insta kill, it could be cheap.
As for online play, am I the only one who cannot wait to trigger the huge walls and stuff onto fellow players on battle.net? Seems like an easy way to grief.
Finally, the Diablo 3 website looks and plays better than many full games I have played in this genre. ( Sacred, anyone?) And it should look DAMN good, since Blizzard has been milking the 'WOW Cow' for years now.
Spend some of that cash Blizzard and make only one version of Diablo 3 - the Collectors version - at a regular version price. Give back to the fans.
Oh and this is for Bill Roper - Egg egg on your face, you left Blizzard with too much haste.
Ohh, no one listens anymore..

@Manator (Follow me and die!): I hope they do, personally. It's the sort of game that's perfectly fit for a controller. The port wasn't too bad, just that the movement didn't go over onto the controller too well. Wouldn't be a problem these days, since the character is undoubtedly going to be in full 3D as opposed to the first game's rendered sprites

PS version of Diablo was pretty good, especially if you used a character with bow specialty.
This looks even more fitting for a console release and I'm sure they'd do a better job at it nowadays anyway. Roll on the ports, tbh. Even if inferior to the PC version, it'd still be the best hack and slash game on consoles I'm sure.
