Diablo and Warcraft both share bits and pieces of each other. It's no major secret that WoW has made several references to Diablo in various ways. Assuming those designs are lifted from Diablo II, it's probably just more lore or design sharing amongst the two titles. Heck, maybe they're adding a rune system or something. Besides, this is WAY too low key for a major announcement. Everyone already knows about Lich King, so it's gotta be that. If it were D3, Blizzard would be doing something fancier or more viral. Or heck, they'd just save it for E3.

Seeing as the first came up yesterday and the 2nd one today, I believe it will be updated every day till saturday. So if you draw a line between the runes on friday (if placed correctly) you'll end up with a pentagram.

Perhaps that activates some power so the ice will break. Thus unleashing hell and Diablo 3 is announced. But I'll see for myself at the WWI this weekend ^_^

AS i said in the ealier news thread about this, Blizzard has been working on the story after Diablo 2 with at least 4 novels, the Moon of the Spider and the Sin War Trilogy which the author who worked on all of the 4 said that "he doesn´t work on universes of dead games". The fact that the Worldstone was destroyed in LoD will bring lot´s of repercussions on Sanctuary(The world of Diablo).

I´m not saying it´s about Diablo 3 *for sure* but it sure as hell wouldn't be surprised if it was.

I'm not sure I want Diablo 3. I absolutely loved Diablo 2 and still occasionally play it today, but I can't see them making another without adding adding a third dimension graphically and I don't think that would help the series unless it maintained it's 'semi-top-down' camera.

Much like Starcraft 2, there is no need to revolutionise the series. More of the same, but with more shinyness will suit me.

But diablo is easily the worst thing to ever happen to them. I flat-out detest the whole concept of random loot, random prefixes/suffixes on loot, and random dungeons. Any game with more than 2 of the above immediately goes into my "do not buy" list.

Which is sorta depressing considering how many games seem to fall over themselves to incorporate both random loot and some sort of random prefix/suffix system. If the devs can't be bothered to hand place specific loot, to properly give it out to the player and instead just throw it all at the player and hope something sticks, then I can't be bothered to play it.

If you guys have read the Diablo fiction trilogy "The Sin War", you would have read that the three books are the basis for Diablo III. The books are about the beginning of the whole war involving the heavens and hell, with the humans caught in between. It basically shows how humans got their powers, the beginning of necromancy, the ancients, and the Sin War.

Now, I don't recall anything being mentioned about ice in the novels. Maybe the worldstone was blue before *spoiler* Uldyssian reconfigured it?

Anyways, I'm hoping it is Diablo III, as I thought Hellgate was going to be a good filler for it, alas it was not. Plus I was a hardcore Diablo II player.

I really don't think it's a Shael rune. Rather, people are just seeing what they want. It's an exact match to the rune on Frostmourne.

@biggitio: Ditto. I headed over to the Blizzard launch page and thought it looked more like rock them ice. However, I'm not about to shout "D3 CONFIRMED!!!", as I originally thought that this was a Lich King promo.

Maybe this is Blizzard tricking us into thinking Lich King instead of Diablo III. Or maybe Blizzard simply ported the Diablo II runes over to WoW for the new Inscription profession.

If you go to the Employment section of the Blizzard site, there are positions listed under a "top secret" designation. All the posts for those positions start with "Blizzard Entertainment, the developer of Diablo and Diablo II, is looking for..." No positions designated under WoW or StarCraft start like that...
