Sony Computer Entertainment Europe announced that the DualShock 3 for that region. The vibration function controller goes on sale in Europe from July 2nd. Says SCEE honcho David Reeves:
We are delighted to confirm that DUALSHOCK 3 will be released in SCEE territories in early July. We hope this will add to the intense gaming experience for our fans, as we continue to evolve PS3, its software and its peripherals. The controller was announced at last year's Tokyo Game Show and released in Japan on November 11, 2007. North America got the DualShock 3 this past April. Hit the jump for the full press release.
DUALSHOCK®3 Wireless Controller available for PLAYSTATION®3 this summer Feel the full power of your games as the eagerly awaited DUALSHOCK®3 Wireless Controller arrives on PS3™June 27, 2008: Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) today announced that DUALSHOCK®3 Wireless Controller will be available for PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) in Europe on July 2, 2008. The eagerly awaited wireless controller with vibration function will put truly responsive gaming power into players' hands, shaking up gaming experiences when it arrives on PS3 this summer.
It's not what you see - it's what you feel that makes DUALSHOCK 3 the first choice for all gamers. More than 28 million DUALSHOCK controllers have been sold since the first DUALSHOCK release for PlayStation® in 1998. Now DUALSHOCK 3 puts some serious power into existing and future PS3 titles, with its vibration function offering even more interactive play between gamers and the many games - past, present and future - which support the vibration functionality. DUALSHOCK 3 also retains the high-precision, high-response motion-sensitive aspects that have made SIXAXIS so popular.
David Reeves, President and CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, commented, "We are delighted to confirm that DUALSHOCK 3 will be released in SCEE territories in early July. We hope this will add to the intense gaming experience for our fans, as we continue to evolve PS3, its software and its peripherals."
Almost all future PS3 releases will support DUALSHOCK 3, and the controller is already compatible with many existing PS3 titles (firmware upgrade 1.94 required). Face the heart-pounding fear of alien warfare in Resistance: Fall of Man™, hold tight as you tear through the streets of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue™, or feel the thrill of treasure hunting in Uncharted: Drake's Fortune™ - your favourite PS3 games like you've never experienced them before.
Making your gaming experience more immersive, more intuitive and more realistic, DUALSHOCK 3 is the only Bluetooth® controller combining vibration function and SIXAXIS™ features, and the first choice for anyone wanting to get the most out of their PS3 gaming experience.

I'm buying one as soon as I... break the DS3 I imported back in November.
And as a matter of fact, even if I break it, I'll import again: I just checked the French GAME website, and they're selling the Sixaxis for 50 euros, the DS3 for 60 euros (over USD 90, just for reference).
I can only hope it's a mistake on their part.
I don't know what's worse: that they seriously hope to sell the DS3 at such a high price... or that people will actually buy them.
@Obli: Don't joke around with localisation, dude. It take time to translate those stickers on the back of the controllers. Betcha didn't know that European labels are painted individually by hand, huh?

@will: You 're in the minority on that. The DS3 feels much sturdier than the Sixaxis. You could argue they're about the same and it just feels better due to the added weight but no way is the build quality worse.

@Obli:
Nope, it's not. It's worse in fact!
I find it amazing that a controller that several games encourage you to shake like a madman suffers from such low build quality. Especially now that it has the vibrate and more moving parts.
Within one week my controller makes a horrible ticking noise when the vibrate comes in to play. I can only guess that while shaking it playing Loco Roco I dislodged something.
Buy it from Japan whatever though. I got mine for £20. No way is it worth £40.

Yeah, i'm just looking into importing now. I can get one delivered to my door for £32!
And i will have it by the end of the week.
Screw you, Sony Europe!

Quick question: how did I get mine in early May, simply walking into an electronics store near my house in Athens? I don't think it's imported and DS3's have been widely available around here since mid-April.

I hope the build quality is better than the creaky old SIXAXIS. One drop from a friend on carpet and the whole pad flexes and creaks when a bit of grip is applied. Still, I'm not paying £40 for a DS3. I should be able to trade in one of my SIXAXIS' for half the cost or something.
... and why did it take 8 months to realease the DS3 in Europe? Localisation issues? =P

The price is $80.
Eighty dollars for a DS3!!!

Just import yours from the US if you live in Europe. No compatiablility issues at all and it'll cost you a tenner less. And wtf at them releasing it AFTER MGS4. The rumble programming in the game is brilliant. If you look in the credits there was actually a team of 4 people dedicated to rumble alone.

Some Swedish online stores have had this date listed for about a month now... and their prices range from SEK549 to 599 (which would be matched by a €55-60 Euro price, unless we're screwed pricewise the same way they overcharge the PS3 by 12.5% over the standard SEK10 per Euro, in which case they would be €50-55 possibly, or even lower in the rest of Europe). I just hope the EB/GameStop guy I asked yesterday was wrong since he quoted a SEK699 price... half the price of a PSP. (and $117, if you want a direct conversion to dollars...)

I really think that Sony could have sold a LOT more PS3s, particularly when GTA4 and MGS4 were released, if ONLY they bundled them with DS3s.
I for one, am still holding out buying a PS3 until the package comes equipped with a DS3.
I know that it sounds like a very cheap excuse, but I personally don't want to spend extra just to re-buy new controllers.

Too bad I imported mine from Gadget Asia for £28. Should be arriving today or tomorrow.
I like how they see Europe as the most retarded userbase of gamers (I don't blame them to be fair), judging by how they quickly released the Sixaxis Double Pack/Game Packs, the official GTA IV/MGS4 bundles, trying to shift the gimped controllers.

@marlblank: Well, even without doing direct conversion, it's €60 vs $50, where everybody else is doing an € per $... so they're 20% OVER the 58% currency difference... so even not complaining about it being 90% more expensive pure currencly wise, it's still relatively 20% more expensive compared to the rest of the European pricing... I.E. in US a DS3 costs 1/8 of a 40GB console (MSRP), in Europe you would only get 6.65 DS3 controllers for the price of a PS3. Not mixing in any currency conversions or anything that is still unfair.
