Hey, You Get A Civilization Revolution Demo This Week
And for once, it's a demo I'm genuinely looking forward to. No, really! I've still no idea how this is actually going to play. The PC version of Civ, I can see it in my sleep, but the nuts and bolts of a console version intrigue me. And a ton of other people, which is probably why 2K have announced that they'll be releasing the demo on both PS3 and 360 this Thursday. The 360 version will roll out globally, while the PS3 one is North America-only for the moment.

@Xerxes 8933A: To answer your real-time question, no, Civilization Revolution is not real time. It is still a turn based game like all other Civilizations. I think the confusion lies in the fact that while playing, everyone can move their units simultaneously, rather than waiting for one person to make all moves before the next begins.
However, the game is still definitely turn based!

@bobtheduck: Honestly I do not believe the delay in the release to the international countries is a problem with translations. If it was a dialog problem they could still release it to the United Kingdoms although I could of course be wrong.
Also, unless there has been an announcement in the past few days, there is no PC version of Civilization Revolution. this one is being made from the ground up for the consoles.
I am very excited about the chance to play this finally. I wonder how the multiplayer demo will be limited. Either way despite having the game delayed out from under me, I will take this demo offering and be appeased. ^_^

The PS3 version is US only? Once again, this smells fishy. The translating to other languages is obviously done in the 360 / PC versions and the port is obviously done in the PS3 version, so implementing the translations is a minimal task comparatively.

Yes! I am very much looking forward to this game.

@Komrade_Kayce:
You haven't played the SNES version of Civ?
NiGHTSSTUDiO
As they say on Fark, maybe someone should RTFA? From the Gamespot article:
"The demo also comes packed with a tutorial for those unfamiliar with Civilization's turn-based gameplay."
Sounds to me like the game shall remain turn-based. From what I've read, some of the more mundane micromanagement has been stripped from the game to streamline faster play on consoles... not converting it to an RTS.
StickNutzman
I actually got to play this game at Comic-Con and I can say with complete confidence that Civilization Revolution is still turn-based.

@spinal77: patience is for losers. you can sit there and twiddle your thumbs while you decide whether or not to attack Cairo with your catapults, while my navy seals infiltrate and attack your rear defilade in real time. bong!

Real Time Civ == Fail. The whole point of the game is the turn based stuff. I wish we could impart a sense of patience in the people in our generation who scoff at anything thats not 100mph real time based and is instead turn based.
There are just some things that should not be done, and this is one of them. I'll give the demo a whirl, but I doubt I'll like it.
I've already taken a gamble with fallout 3 by preordering the special edition, but only because they gave us turn based guys sort of a concession...

@Xerxes 8933A:
It's not a port, it's a ground up creation of a Civ game for the console by Sid himself. A port of Civ IV would be your massive fail to play on a console. Difficult to manage it all with a controller and a snoozing wait-fest for multiplayer.
Civ IV will still be the superior version but that version would not be any fun on a console for those gamers. You should have stopped at "I havn't payed much attention to this", or gave it the benefit of the doubt thereafter.

@keith.burgun: Seriously? It's Real-Time? I havn't payed much attention to this, as I've expected it to be a massive fail since I first heard of it. But this is just wrong. Civ is a TBS click fest with such an immense amount of micro-management it puts everything else to shame.
So for the console port they are just removing everything that makes Civ, Civ eh?
Hopefully at least it will pique some console owners interest so they will go pick up a real version.
I'm not a rabid PC fanboy or anything, I just belive there are some games that just Shoudn't be cross-platform. Games like Fallout, Civ, and Deus Ex shouldn't be on the console. They don't work like they should, and in an attempt to make them work, they remove everything that made the games great in the first place.
Xerxes 8933A
@keith.burgun: Is this real time, cos that would be sweet,
i tried to play Civ4 but don't like the whole turn based thing ( i'm more of an age of empires guy)
So when's this demo coming to Europe, if it even is gonna come to Europe?
scuba2steve
Definitely giving this a try. My PC is work-only for now (when it's working) - and I'm curious to see what they've done with the series since the Civ IV expansion packs. I sort of regret not spending more time playing IV before I moved onto other games...so this is a shot at redemption I guess. I always liked how IV let you have your own mp3s playing. I now associate the game with D'Angelo's Voodoo album, and will probably continue that trend if they have custom mp3's on the PS3 version.

PLEASE show ps3 europe some love! But demo or not im SO getting this game!!
dyslekt
Ohh a new one :D i would be eagerly waiting for this one to pop up D)

Ooh, excited. I've been reading up here and there about it, trying to decide if I want to play it. So this demo will be nice. Looking forward to this!

Anyway the game looks good just hoping we'll see Civ V someday...

@keith.burgun:
Real time is, like time, a relative subject. If you play civ with simultaneous moves you could just as well call it RTS.
I'm not too sure about this game. I adore civ, yet I get the feeling that this is nothing more than a civ4 mod. Now I don't have a console, but I do have a DS. The problem with the DS is that there's no way to patch the game. And if Firaxis would make a civ game (any game...) that doesn't require massive subsequent patching, THAT would be a revolution.
Shabbaman
Looks watered down for consoles.
*looks at bioshock*

Wow, what a coincedence that Sid Meier "always wanted to make" the thing that his lawyers told him he has to if he wants to make money. Console, fine. But why is it real-time?
keith.burgun
@Vodun: Aha! So you're the sumbitch using my number for an XBL account! ;)
Captain Impulse
I never did understand this whole US only on demos. Are we euros not worthy yet? Good thing it's about as hard as looking in a phone book to create a US account.

It's like Spore, but with the most terrifying creature of all: MAN.
Forkball
very cool. I really want to like this version on Civ, but I do have my reservations. if I like how the demo plays CivRev will be a day-one purchase.
kromekoran

aiko.adonia

GregoriRasputin

akilshohen
Awesome, been waiting on this forever ^^
Kuro
Oh HELL YES.
The first Civ game I've eagerly anticipated. I cant wait to see how it plays out on a console. I've always wanted a console civ, the idea of sitting on my living room couch to play on the tv rather than hunched over my computer for hours...
glorious. Simply glorious.
