How LittleBigPlanet Handles MAXIMUM RISKY
Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 2:00 PM on June 20, 2008
Sure, there is a time and a place for everything. But while the Penis Monsters and Vaginasaurs are feeling the EA censor squeeze, LittleBigPlanet developer Media Molecule is letting players create and share private levels. Private, risky levels. Media Molecule founder, Mark Healey explains:
First of all, I can tell you that you can make private levels. You can publish a level and make it locked and give away keys to friends. But, I personally wouldn't put risky content in there. We have a post-grievance system. The way that works is ... pretty much at any point in the game, you can press a button and effectively take a screenshot. That screenshot knows lots of information of where that screenshot came from, what players were there, etc. You can send that screenshot to the powers that be ... If you want to make a private level, give keys to people you trust. You can do that, I suppose.
Bring on the "Sackboy's Level" puns!

@argh: I find this actually to be an advantage about PSN. Since most users seem not to have microphones, it means I can safely join public rooms without dealing with a bunch of people competing to sound the most like a 5 year old, constantly cussing out everyone in the room. I realize most games that support voice chat allow for muting abusive users...but its nice not to have to even deal with that. Normally I'm not one to tout lack of something as a feature...but voice chat has proven itself to be a decidedly mixed bag. Its not that a majority of users are griefers even, its just that a very few seem to take too much pleasure in pissing in the swimming pool. On Xbox Live, there's at least theoretically the limiter that people have to have a pay account that can be rescinded (no idea how often this happen, but I'd guess not often) if a user becomes too abusive, while PSN's (and often the PC's) free access to accounts means a single abusive user can simply create another account once his abuse has been linked to the screen name and dealt with, to continue sociopathic behavior.

I wish this game was coming to PC, I really hate PSN. I bet something like 5% of PSN users have headsets, it feels liek playing with a bunch of bots. I've probably encountered at least 50 different people today on Metal Gear: Online and I saw TWO guys with microphones.
I imagine Little Big Planet is going to be really frustrating unless everyone's communicating.

@Grecaun: Media Molecule will only take action on levels that people report to them. If you keep your level private and only allow your friends to access it, they won't do anything unless one of your friends is a jerk and reports it.

But I wanted to show the general public on how to catapult your Sackboy off a penis. It's very important to know.

I'm glad they are taking this issue seriously. This is probably one of the most accessible games for children that the PS3 will have (to date). Just don't take it too far and they'll be fine.

Okay, so you make a level not intended for the mass public, and then they find out and delete it? Oh boy, just make it again?
I don't get what this guy is trying to get at.
