Japan Gets The Blue PSP As Well

Sony Japan so are not done with the colour changes. Next up, following the new red PS2, is this "Metallic Blue" PSP. Which is new for Japan, not so new for the US, since it's the same colour North America's getting in the limited edition Madden 09 PSP pack. This one will be a limited edition as well, and will come in two bundles: a "value pack" (¥23,800/$US 228), which is the PSP, a 32MB card, AV cables and various bags/straps, and a "1 Seg" pack (¥29,800/$US 286), which is everything that comes in the value pack, but with the addition of the nifty 1 Seg TV tuner. Both will be out in Japan on July 17.
Tokyo, June 3, 2008 - Sony Computer Entertainment Japan (SCEJ), a division of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) responsible for business operations in Japan, today announced that it would release two PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) packs in "Metallic Blue" colour, "PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) Metallic Blue Value Pack" and "PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) Metallic Blue 1 Seg Pack," featuring a new colour for the summer season. Beginning Thursday July 17th, 2008, "PSP Metallic Blue Value Pack" and "PSP Metallic Blue 1 Seg Pack" will be released as a limited offer at recommended retail prices of 23,800 yen (including tax) and 29,800 yen (including tax) respectively.
"PSP Metallic Blue Value Pack" comprises a new "Metallic Blue" PSP, pouch, hand strap, cloth, a 32MB Memory Stick™ Duo, as well as a "D Terminal AV Cable (*1)" which allows users to enjoy high quality entertainment content on TVs in homes. "PSP Metallic Blue Value Pack" will be a great starter pack for those who wish to begin their PSP experience for the first time.
"PSP Metallic Blue 1 Seg Pack" bundles a "Metallic Blue" PSP with a widely popular "1 Seg" tuner, a pouch in the same blue colour that can store the PSP system with the tuner attached, a stand to place the PSP system for TV viewing, strap, cloth, and a 1GB Memory Stick™ PRO Duo. This product is ideal for those who wish to enjoy not only games but also a variety of other PSP entertainment including "1 Seg" viewing.
For the upcoming summer season's press release on Kotaku, a host of new and exciting software titles are scheduled to be released for PSP, including third party titles such as GUNDAM BATTLE UNIVERSE and SUPER ROBOT TAISEN A PORTABLE by NAMCO BANDAI Games Inc., The Legend of Heroes: SORA NO KISEKI by Nihon Falcom Corporation, and PHANTASY STAR PORTABLE by SEGA CORPORATION. I used to have a PSP.
When it came out as the bundle here in the US, with the UMD of Spidey 2. I threw it away. NO, not because it was a crappy machine, but because I didn't want to get caught. A little more than three years later, I still want one. This time I might actually buy one, that is if wife lets me, because this color is badass. I'd prefer an orange one though.

@Velops: And I think this is a very good thing... I'm stuck with all the basic versions of everything I've got, except for my really old transparent Gameboy. Which we need more of.... who doesn't like seeing the insides of your console/handheld?

I remember when limited editions colors used to be for special occasions. It seems like they are trying to find any kind of excuse to make a limited edition color now.

This Blue is my favorite colour. It would be great if I could get this after my Red Kratos PSP and have a mix and match PSP with both my favorite colors. I might have to import this...

I want the value pack. D: Why don't we get a value pack in North America? And why do they still get boxes while we get the clamshell packaging where your PSPs first scratches come from trying to open the dam thing.

Why is the the North American market forced to by "limited edition" packages to get coloured PSPs that are usually more than not branded? I have no intentions to buy a PSP, currently, but I'd like a choice in colour without the added baggage I couldn't give a fuck about. At least the Japanese packs come with mostly useful items.

I really like this blue colored PSP but, I may pick up the Daxter bundle for pure bang-for-buck reasons. That and I really dis-like Football.

@KingSnakeX4: No kidding, there is NO way Sony couldn't throw in a 1GB card for probably the exact same price... have they stockpiled billions of these cards or something? Just like smaller HDs get more expensive to produce as time goes on (as they're in more limited demand) it seems like a 32mb card wouldn't save anyone any money.
Or else they must make just enough from people running out to buy new cards (since it's all Sony licensed) that it works out in the end..

I seriously want this blue psp and I already have a red one. Why does japan get better packs that come with their blue psp, the madden pack stinks IMO.

I JUST said I don't like bright primary colour consoles, but this one's ok, it's a nice mellow cobalt blue. I think sky blue or baby blue would look tacky on it.
My favorite PSP and DS schemes are black. It also frames the screen much nicer IMO.

I feel that $58 is completely worth a 1GB stick and TV tuner. Wish that sort of functionality was available in the US. I'm going to be in the market for a PSP after this summer. Might end up picking up the Metallic Blue Madden Bundle.

Agreed. Game consoles in Japan change their color more than people in a hair salon.
I still feel that the red PSP looks the best so far.
