MGS4 Weaps Without the Wet-Work
Posted by Owen Good at 6:00 AM on June 29, 2008
For all you MGS4 gamers, reader Christine L. has a couple new cheat codes for you. These look new to us, so we're passing them along. With them you can get the .45 pistol and the Mosin-Nagant sniper rifle before they unlock in the game (which happens after you meet up with the Metal Gear Mark II.) It doesn't exactly rock the foundations of science, but it might be useful to some of you.
She got the unlock codes from two different launch events in Japan today, in Shinjuku and Yokohama. A third was released at Omiya but she wasn't there, so its code is still out there, presumably (if you have it, send along to tips.) But McWhertor tested these out and they're on the level:
password mekakorkkk unlocks the .45 calibre pistol.
password mnsoymsyhn unlocks the Mosin-Nagant rifle.
Enjoy your ill-gotten firearms!

@humorbot: He knows as soon as you even think about maybe, perhaps cheating.
If I were you, Sqrfrk, I wouldn't play MGS4 with my PS3 connected to the internet. Who knows what it takes to activate those crazy nanomachines IN YOUZ PS3THR3E!!!1!1

I suppose the code is useful if you were too stingy to buy the Mosin during your first playthrough, but otherwise, I really don't see the point.
@Sqrfrk: If you go for the Big Boss emblem, the .45 should never even be in your active inventory, and you won't need the Mosin for the 5-minute stretch before meeting up with the Metal Gear MkII.
@0rin: The Altair costume is very easy to get, but frankly, it's not worth devoting one playthrough to. You'll wear it once, realise it has a terrible camo index and never use it again.

I'm working on my big boss badge, and it's not too bad, actually, especially after you beat the first two acts.

the official strategy guide mentions codes to unlock the patriot, the altair costume, and a few other things, but it says the codes "will be available later". I was bummed. I don't wanna beat the game flawlessly on boss extreme -_-

@DXY!: Check the Extras section at the main menu. Passwords can be entered from there.

@DXY!: Complete the game. Go into "Extras" and there should be an "Enter Password" option. Here's some more for you:
thomas - "Desperate Chase" iPod Song
george - "Gekko" iPod Song
theodore - "Midnight Shadow" iPod Song
abraham - "Mobs Alive" iPod Song

Does it fack with your rating when you beat the game? It'd be a shame when you're going for the Big Boss emblem and it suddenly says you used special items or something.

There is a menu for 'passwords', enter them there.
Konami will be releasing a bunch of passwords for all the extras at some point.

@Antiterra: Kojima has no doubt perfected this art. Even way back in MGS, he warned us. "Don't even think about using autofire, or I'll know."

@noliferuin (PSN): @noliferuin (PSN): It's not, though. There's "Big Boss Hard" and "The Boss Extreme", and the Big Boss Emblem can only be gotten on the latter.
I think the reasoning has to do with the idea that the difficulties refer to characters, and the emblems just refer to the ranks obtainable within the MGS 'verse. It leaves some confusion, but it does make some sense.

@Sqrfrk: good question. itd be handy to have the mosin for the first few scenes before you get your shit back, if anything.
@Blah8: cause the boss lost her title when big boss beat her, im guessing.
running through it on big boss hard right now, going for the solar gun & hoping it helps my chances at big boss extreme/emblem next playthrough.

Why call it the Big Boss emblem when you're completing the game on The Boss difficulty? I mean, in the difficulty levels "The Boss" is higher than "Big Boss", so why not have the ultimate challenge snag you "The Boss" emblem?

The thing is, it's not like the passwords give you anything special. If you've played the game once to get the password part in the first place, then you probably already have those guns.
The only point it seems to really be for is the Ipod songs. Unless there will be a password that comes along and gives you things you can't obtain otherwise, except the Ipod songs, then it would be worthwhile to put them in.

I wonder if the Mosin-Nagant is in there for the same reason Civics are in GT? (so people can play with something they own in real life)

don't use any guns other than tranq's and learn to conserve ammo, and rely on sneaking rather than clearing a path.

of course I know THAT'S not true, but here are other passwords, which all unlock music:

thomas
These are under the "extras" menu, but you may need to be connected to PSN for it to even open.

To kill the bosses you can use the tranq rounds from the mk2 or the Mosin-Nagant, the v-ring rounds from the shotguns, the solar gun, the grenade launcher with stun grenades. Outside of a few pinch spots in act 1 and 2 and the damn motorcycle chase its pretty smooth sailing on big boss extreme.

@0rin:
To respond to both of your comments, the first one is actually using the guns mentioned in this article >_>
And also, they kinda release cheats later so you can try to feel accomplished if you get it
As for no killing; only sneak, don't go guns blazing
and as for the beauties, they get hurt with the .45, Snagret, and V-ring ammo with the shotguns
but really, use the siagla 12 (or something along that name) and equip the V-rings
easiest way to defeat the beauties and beasts

@0rin:
You use the exact guns mentioned here.
If you notice, with the solid eye on, people have a pyche meter, just like snake.
If you shoot them with the .45 or Snagret, they'll be knocked unconsious, and thus not dying.
That, or CQC holds to knock em out.
I'm also debating wether or not you own the game, because I'd think you would know what the .45 does.
