Anyone else notice that during the "Sonic and his friends..." section, that Tails is NOWHERE TO BE FOUND in the groupshot? They have friggin Shadow but not Tails? I saw him later in some of the battle scenes, but damn, that was a pretty low blow since Tails was the first ally Sonic ever had, he deserved to be right in there with Sonic and Knuckles.

And I still refuse to call Docter Robotnik that idiotic "Eggman".

I'm not trying to downplay the game, because it looks pretty fun and I'm confident of Bioware's ability, but seriously, how many times have you heard this formula:

1. Dark, mysterious force +
2. Ragtag gang of rebels +
3. You are the ONLY hope to save the galaxy =
4. Same boring storyline over and over again.

I'm sorry, but I am sick of this formula as I'm sure many others are as well. The gameplay will likely be fun, the characters could be interesting, but I have had it with the same scenario eternally retold. Is it that gamers continually flock to this concept?

He costs a lot, but he's a consumate pro. Apparently he works mainly from his home studio now. You book an hour (or probably less for a job this size), he does a couple of readthroughs over ISDN or whatever. Sega's marketing budget for this game could easily accomodate him, I'm sure.

I realize the trailer is probably a bad way to judge the game, but... Could he have made it sound any more generic? "Sonic and his friends battle the forces of darkness" is basically the plot of the past ten years' worth of games. Werewolf Sonic at least looks remotely interesting, even if my hope in it is even more misplaced than it would be here.

Meh. While the voice-over between the two was of about the same quality, the main difference was in the editing. For me, the MGS one seemed one hell of a lot better solely because of how it was edited - this one had a lot of long, sweeping transitions with a bunch of 2D sprites or drawings being animated tiny bits, while the MGS one was edited exactly how any normal film trailer would be. So, for me the MGS one was ten times as dramatic and well-done.

When Sonic Team started making their games in San Francisco rather than Japan they had more direct control over how the characters were localised in America. Yuji Naka changed Robotnik's name back to Eggman because Sonic Team never approved of the Robotnik name, it was just something stupid Sega of America came up with. And it's not like they never call him Robotnik anymore---Eggman is just a nickname.

@tako12: No, they probably will care if Amy gets eaten, considering she is technically the oldest Sonic character next to Eggman (she was in Sonic CD, remember? Or did you not know this?). Sonic CD was in development before Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was, and was released in Japan nearly a month before, if I'm not mistaken. So yeah, she's been in the series for as long as, if not longer tnan Tails.
