I really hope this game doesn't do well. I grew up with Squaresoft and this sort of title isn't something I would really expect. It just feels like a cash in to some extent and I really would not have expected Square-Enix to make it in the first place...

By the way, they say that the game will have 10 main characters and they counterparts villains, so no love for FFXII, many people dont like FFXII, personnaly i like the game, only the story sucks a bit, but the game is part of the main saga, atleast Vaan and Vayne should be there!

Looks interesting. The movie portion of the game looks gorgeous, and I must say that Squall's Gunblade combo did look pretty sweat.

The only gripe I have is the game's music. It doesn't fit. The boring Final Fantasy theme is a terrible opener for an a fast passed action fight or any scene for that matter, and the music used pretty much throughout the trailer seemed mixed matched, too, imho.

@Project Thanatos: Without being too nerdy and throwing stats around, Squall should be able to handle Sephiroth just fine. Whatever Cloud can handle = Any Final Fantasy protagonist can handle. Even Bartz.

Okay, why do I get the feeling that 50% done means 40% of that 50% is making beautiful cutscenes? I really hope Squenix puts more effort into making a good game instead of concentrating 80% of their efforts in their cutscenes and 20% half-assed gameplay(like Crisis Core).

Not complaining about the FMV's or anything but I hate being offered a great game concept and only being delivered cutscene fanservice instead.

If my fears are true then they might as well just create a UMD full of FMV's, at least I'll know what I'll be buying then.

*sigh* I really don't like all this crossover stuff. It just more sqeenix overkill and for me it cheapens the memory of characters that I loved. It seems square/enix will throw cloud/sephi et al into any old game regardless of how well suited they are to the setting or storyline. These characters are losing their identity. Squall V Sephiroth, yeah great. The greatest minds in storytelling couldn't come up with a plot device to have me take that one seriously. This isn't even fan service as far as I'm concerned. I'm a huge FF fan and I don't like Square/Enix's new direction on bit. X-2 was the start of a slippery slope.......

Did I miss something? Didn't someone post this trailer yesterday in the comments section of the Dissidia screens post? I Love seeing the AMANO inspired looks of the FF and FFII Protagonists. They are just amazing.

As far as the music goes; since this is just some sort of fighter/brawler action game, and the characters are going to be from (hopefully all of) the first 10 games, they should have just ported in all of the Black Mages soundtracks and saved time/money.

P.S. Tidus and Squall teaming up against the baddest MoFo (second to Kefka.. duh) in the entire FF series? Ummmmm.... no chance in Hell are they going to last in that fight. (No Omni-slash or Knights of the Round to save them). :P

Did I miss something? I'm reading some of these comments and I can't believe the shortsightedness. First of all, this game features some of the best characters in the FF series. Do I want to see Squall fight Sephiroth? Fuck yeah! Sephiroth versus Zack in FFVII: CC was a no win situation but that doesn't mean it wasn't totally kick ass.

Also, this is on PSP which I believe is the right testing ground for such a project. The gameplay looks fast, fluid with plenty of air combat. I don't understand where all the hate is coming from. Holding on to failed fighting game attempts from over 10 years ago is just stupid. that's like saying FF is done because X-2 was suspect. So we should ignore FFXII? WTF? Capcom was responsible for the putrid Street Fighter (the original) so they shouldn't have attempted a sequel? Street Fighter EX (by Arika for Capcom) is total trash but Capcom still gave us Star Gladiator and Rival Schools (all 3D) which are awesome. Why are people complaining about cutscenes now? Since when have cut scenes been a bad thing...in a SQUARE/ENIX game? Are you guys serious? Oh...or is this the retarded section of Kotaku and I missed the sign?

The point is I think the game looks awesome. It gives me some hope for Castlevania on Wii which is all I can say about that. Dissidia FF... I'm looking forward to this.

As we didn't see any Cloud in the trailer, I'll just asume the remaining 50% is, well, all dedicated to Cloud.

Seems that for the backstory, you have Chaos as the main bad guy I'm guessing. His counterpart is named Cosmos, who I assume summoned the heroes.

If it comes out this year, I can't wait for the PS2 version in '09, followed by the sequel on PS3 in 2011. Yes, you heard it here first! :D

oh, and I heard it mentioned that Squall wouldn't stand a chance against Sephiroth... technically that's not true... the maximum damage Sephiroth could muster in a single attack was 9999 and only if you had a gameshark to play as him throughout the game, otherwise it was even less... as thanks to certain skills you could teach your GFs, Squal was capable of doing much much more.... though in sheer HP capacity sephiroth does come out on top...
