Why do people keep biting on this stuff?

1) Gamestop/whoever wants to take your pre-orders.

2) In order for them to take your preorders, they need to populate some fields in their computer system.

3) One of the required fields is release date.

4) They make a guestimate as to when that will be. It's not even an educated guestimate.

Knowing Blizzard we will not see this game until 2009 or 2010.

I think this is highly possible. The huge implication is that all three retailers put up the same release date at once, AND the Paris expo is in a few days. According to info released previously (Blizzard announcing an announcement!! ;D) Expect a huge announcement regarding SC2 this weekend, also expect that info to be about the beta and full retail release...before info about Single player is released.

I doubt Blizzard would release both Starcraft II and Wrath of the Lich King this fall/winter. My money is on the WoW expansion this year and Starcraft II spring 2009. Granted both could be delayed into 2009 if Blizzard sees fit. I think Blizzard knows better than to release two very high profile games back-to-back like that. Especially in such an already busy quarter of the year.

Stupid article. Every retailer since WC2 has always put a date on any blizzard game because they want pre-sells. If the game doesn't get released that date then they just push it back until it does.

I think they even had a release date for Ghost and Lord of the Clans.

I'm not really a fan of Starcraft, like, at all...I'd rather they be working on Diablo 3, to be honest, but one thing about this makes me grin. We can all be sure a Mac version is coming on the same day as the PC version. Blizzard never stabs their Mac fans in the back.

Valve could learn a lesson from Blizz.

I love the StarCraft setting, but I'm not the hugest fan of RTS games. Still, this is exciting if true! Even if I would prefer StarCraft: The Magical Protoss Adventure - the journeys of a young Dark Templar, a baby Hydralisk, and the love that brought them together! Awwww.

It is Blizzard though, so I am reserved in my anticipation, because while we'd all like to see it that soon, Blizzard released "when it's [nearly] perfect," which has virtually guaranteed their success to this date.

Blizzard can charge $500 in Korean money for each copy and they still would sell out in under 3 hours.

These crazed Koreans ( I mean that in a good, gamer way) I am sure would take loans out from banks, or perhaps commit crimes to get the needed cash to buy this game.

It is my understanding that most of the Starcraft copies in S. Korea were purchased legally and not stolen via BitTorrent?

Blizzard has traditionally released its products in the game release "off-season" of the spring, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a spring 2009 release. But WoW was an exception to this, so I guess you never know.
