Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game: The Making Of (In Pictures)
Posted by Luke Plunkett at 5:30 PM on June 26, 2008
You may remember the Street Fighter movie (the bad one, not the good one), but only those with longer, sharper memories will remember that the film had a game tie-in. Yes. Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game. It was worse than the movie. But that doesn't mean after all these years nothing good can come of it! Alan Noon - who posted a tonne of info on the game last year - has also posted a ton of old photos he took during the title's development. They're...magnificent. I've posted a few below, but really, to get the full effect you'll need to head over to his site and check out the lot of them (they're from 2007, yeah, but stuff like this is like a fine wine).

SF The Movie - The Game I believe was on the Sega Saturn.
I remember seeing tons of copies sitting on store shelves for awhile. Even though I am a longtime SF fan, not sure if capturing "live action" with SF would work. ++bonus points to Kylie ^_^

That oiled up Cammy shot is hot. Is that definitely Van Damme in the first pic? He sorta looks as if he's a look-a-like.

Or just giggle at all the photos.

Haha...yeah...I remember there was a game based on the movie based on a game...I just don't remember for what platform(s?). But c'mon...doesn't the idea of controlling a rendered Van Damme in a fighting game sound awesome?

Street Fighter 2: The Movie > Street Fighter Alpha: The Movie > Street Fighter Alpha: Generations
The story for Alpha was kind of weird. It didn't seem to stick to the game. SF2 was very 90s-ish, but it fleshed out the characters more than those post-fight insults.

It was originally an Arcade game, then ported to the consoles.
I worked in a huge arcade at the time and basically, SF was losing major money to MK series in the arcades. MK busted on the scene hardcore and MKII just made the game 100x better.
Capcom in their thinking wanted to go the digital live action character route in hopes of winning back the hearts of gamers who were becoming MK junkies. They thought it was the right time with SF being hot in the arcades and the big SF movie coming out.
SF:The Movie "the game" was their answer.....and it was a horrible horrible mistake. I was a die hard SF player who also enjoyed the MK series and I remember this pos rolling into our arcade. After playing an afternoon I wondered who the hell thought it was a good idea to make it haha.
Ahhh the days when SFII/MK first hit the arcade scene. Sticking your quarters up on the glass to signify you were next to challenge the winner......It's too bad alot of you guys never got to experience it.

Hey lets set out to make the worst game ever. What a waste of time. A guy with 10 dollars to make his cosplay costume could do a better job than this turd.

I'm assuming they used Raul Julia's stuntman because he was dead at that point and not because he wasn't flexible enough to do the moves.

thanks for the memories kotaku. that movie was horrible, i remember renting it in 6th grade though. i was such a huge street fighter fan then as well. i completely forgot that was kylie minogue. lol i had this game for my saturn (i bought everything street fighter in those days), and i would pause the screen sometimes when cammy would do moves. what can i say, i was 13.
it also came to the playstation, a lot of those capcom fighting games that played better and just seemed to make more sense on the saturn are worth good money on the playstation. this game is worth like 5 bucks on saturn, but 30 on the psx.
@3elevenX: dude, that just made me remember going to putt putt simply to play arcade games. they had a HUGE cabinet for ssfII shortly after it was released, and i was too afraid to put my quarter up because all the guys were so good.

That movie is a classic for all the wrong reasons.
The game is even worse, and the Saturn home port wa terrible comapred to the already feeble arcade version.
Let's hope Capcom never pulls one of this stunts again.

I'm one of those very few people who actually played said game. It was utterly craptastic. It was trying way too hard to be Mortal Kombat.

I sadly remember seeing this movie in the theater. Was Raul Gulia's last film too. I thought the only great moment in that film was Ming-Na Wen's Chun-Li freaking out and kicking Bison's ass after Raul Gulia's awesome line, "..the day I killed your father must have been the most horrible day of your life, but for me - it was just Tuesday." RIP Raul

The PS1 port or SF:The Movie:The Game was actually not bad. Rather than the unplayable, glitchy mess that was the arcade game, the gameplay was completely revamped so that it played like Super SF2 Turbo.
Granted, that means it still only played like Super SF2 Turbo, but it was an improvement, however mild.

The SFA Movie was pretty bad, and the sequel was even worse. The original animated movie was passable. I did like the SFII V series, aside from the weird gay overtones between Ryu and Ken in some of the early episodes.

On a related note: go see JCVD. First Jean Claude movie worth watching, it was a great surprise for me. He totally redeems himself in this movie.
Here's the teaser, oh it's a french movie so if you don't like subtitles, too bad.

The flag on his right arm, which is forward, should be backward. Soldiers always have the flag with the star field leading the way, advancing in to battle.
The flag never retreats, it just advances to the rear.

@Kaizuden: What are you talking about? Jackie Chan's rendition of the Street Fighter was better. It was a parody. Even then it was still better...
@3elevenX: I remember that time. I used to line up for more than 10 minutes just to get the crap beaten out of me. I did a lot of lining up too! Killer Instinct,SF and its different iterations...Ah the good ole days.
I think this movie sucked so much because not only were the fight scenes crap but they messed with the SF mythos as well. Sagat as a midget? (well not really but you get my point).
When this first came out, there was a huge line for it. After I think a week, heh it gathered dust...
