Twenty Minutes Of Far Cry 2
Posted by Luke Plunkett at 3:00 PM on June 26, 2008
Far Cry 2, for all its promise of open-world gaming, tree-destroying and fire-starting, still seems to be flying under a lot of people's radars. Maybe watching this twenty-minute gameplay demonstration - captured at the Dreamhack LAN show in Sweden - will get you all excited. Certainly nice seeing a presentation of the game that's warts-n-all, gives you an idea of what it'll be like to actually play it, not watch a marketing guy play through it on a trailer.

Aw man, I want a car where you tighten one bolt to fix everything!
Sarcasm aside and in all honesty, I do like the animations actually interacting with the environment (IE you don't wrench in the air beside the jeep to six it, or you the ammo doesn't just disappear, he actually grabs it) This game impresses me each and every time I see it, but for some reason, I keep forgetting about it. It truly is a great time to be a gamer, when a title as impressive and exciting as this can become "lost" in the flood of awesome games being released.... I hope it does well!

A noble shit would be one hell of an impressive shit, I imagine. Like Bono in that South Park poo episode. But I agree, I'm happy to see some gameplay as well. Definitely like the fire effects on the grass. Looks pretty cool.

I wonder what in the hell "a completely real noble shit" is. Haha. I know he's saying "no bullshit" ... but it sounds, well ... you know. The announcer is a bit annoying at times in this video, but it's great to be able to watch some gameplay. Thanks for the heads up Luke.

So many comments making fun of a guy not speaking in his native tongue. I'd like to see how well you guys do speaking French. As for the game it self, I'll probably end up grabbing it for the pc if I ever get around to making a new pc.

And im pretty sure i wont have to take these 'buddies' out to play pool or get drunk, so i wont grow to hate them.
What i want to know is if playing as different dudes changes the game in any way. Does it matter if i play as Frank or Larry? Or is it the same game regardless?

I'm really, really hoping the console versions live up to the PC build. I'm really interested in this for the 360, I just hope it doesn't get too dumbed down. They claim it will be exactly the same as the PC version content wise.
On the other hand, I had a lot of fun with Far Cry Instincts, even if it got the console treatment.

I want to know if it will have multiplayer.

Now THAT'S what a sequel is supposed to do. The first Far Cry lost my interest about half-way through, but then again it did practically none of the things shown in this demo. I wasn't excited before, but I am now.

Hurrah! This game is officially higher up on my games in very likely to buy list.
He did say over 30 upgradeable guns, right?
Its not MGS4... but i'll gladly take it and customize the crap out of it.
Gun jamming is sweet, too. I guarentee it'll be a pain in the ass; but i love the detail.
Did he say the AK wont jam? Thats cool, as far as guns go you cant get much more reliable then an
Avtomat Kalashnikova obraztsa 1947 goda
I wonder if the 1911 will get the same treatment?
After all, how could the m1911 NOT be in a game populated by mercenaries?
Props to Tekno for calling out the guys picking on the announcer. Yeah, ide like to hear them speak French half as good as this guy speaks english.
Which might be possible; but you catch my drift.
Fuck off, whats your face! You should be held down while this guy should take a noble shit in your mouth.
Haha, i kid i kid...
Except for the fuck off shit in the mouth part.
Anyways, I hope this game runs great on my Xbox... keeping popup to a minimum. Regardless, it'll spin like me in a computer chair on acid. x12.

Im surprised noone saw how this was a complete stab at the opening missions for Crysis.
For those who don't know. In Crysis you behind on an airplane and jump out into the night but have no control over where you are going. Something happens and you lose your chute, you meet up with one of your teammates after the worst tutorial ever... One of your squadmates is killed by something and the game begins to turn to day. Your radar is not functioning or some crap so you have to take out the radar jammer which looks almost the same as the radio transmitter in this game.
However, that mission in Crysis was no where near as epic as this video is.
This actually looks like COD4 level of action but with open gameplay aka your not restricted to a linear path etc.
I hope things are destructable like Bad Company... I love busting holes in the wall just to scare the crap out of people waiting on the other side...

this game was never under my radar. the open-world bit really appeals to me, it looks like you'll ACTUALLY have control over what you do when, and i love that shooters are starting to head in this direction (see: Red Faction Guerrilla). i love when games actually integrate the open world into their plot, as opposed to the "open-world" GTA4. i had STALKER but my GPU crashed before i really got into it, but it seemed to do the open-world thing pretty well. not that i don't have love for linear shooters... the half-life series is still the best collection of fps's EVER and are brilliantly paced, i've never played a single fps (or 3ps) that has come anywhere near the quality of those games.

1)Did anyone notice the guy kept stabbing himself with a needle to regain health, plasmid style?
2)This game looks as though it'll be difficult to aim and see if you actually hit the target or not.
3)I still don't see what the big deal is with open worlds. Open worlds don't necessarily make a great game, even though this one does look promising.

@kanzaki: You're right. If you look carefully at his health bar, you'll see he's actually injecting himself with some tiny needle every time. Looks a little like Bad Company's health system, which I like.
Overall, I think I should go preorder this game. Now.
Somehow, the game crashing made it more endearing to me. And the only load time was at the beginning. It was pretty short, for a pre-game load time (GTA anyone?) too.

I find it funny when they boast all the graphical features in Farcry 2 because Crysis had it all and was way better lol.
Anyway, this being the first FC2 video I have watched, it looks fantastic. If that 50 kilometers is true then this could be epic as long as its not repetitive. 50hours? I don't know about that but if they can keep me interested that long, then great. Still, looks like its shaping up well hopefully Ubisoft wont screw it up.
