Wii Fit Hula Hoop Girl Hits TRL
Posted by Brian Crecente at 5:00 AM on June 19, 2008
Lauren Bernat and boyfriend Giovanny Gutierrez hit MTV's TRL this week to once more deny that video of Bernat shaking her money maker for the camera on Wii Fit was anything other than a bit of friendly voyeurism.
Never mind that in his first, I believe, interview on the subject with Joystick Division he called the whole thing a "spec viral video", leading at least me to think that this was something more than a bit of video tom-foolery. My guess, Nintendo had nothing to do with it, but Gutierrez and fellow marketer Bernat saw a chance to make a name for themselves in the right circles with their vid.
I guess it doesn't really matter, in the end... see what I did there?

This video was so made on purpose. Anyone knows if you film your girlfriend without her knowing (in her underwear no less) and publish it over the web, she's not going to be smiling and dressed up on TV like this one is.
And I swear I saw that scarf on COD4!

Why is everyone flocking to watch this somewhat attractive woman in her underwear move her but around in a semi-circle when you can see the same thing on any given episode of Sex and the City? (protest all you want, I still watch it on mute) And lets not forget pretty much every show on G4TV or Spike finds a way to sexually exploit some woman in a bathing suit, or have we already forgotten the hotdog swallowing contest on Attack of the Show?
I know what you're going to say "But it's funny too!", bullshit, it's mildly amusing at best, and thats not why you watched it. "

because she's somewhat attractive, unlike the women on Sex and the City, who are not even somewhat attractive (well, except for Kristen Davis, she's a cutie)
but the point you are trying to make is valid -- why the attention on her, when there are other more attractive women to get excited about? (a question that applies to Megan Fox, as well)

I'm not sure why everyone's having such a hard time understanding what happened with this video. The guy very clearly explains it in that MTV interview. He is in advertising, he saw a chance to make a spec (meaning unsolicited and unpaid) viral video for the Wii. His girlfriend however did not know about it at the time, so her saying that it was unplanned is totally accurate. Nintendo got offended that anyone would think they would contract something like this (and possibly threatened him), so he is trying to downplay any connection to them. Doesn't mean he didn't originally want to pitch it to them though.
I think everyone's just so hypnotized by the bionic booty gyrations that they're not making proper sense...of......can't look away from booty....

I don't care what the scarf is supposed to mean. I'm more concerned that he's wearing a scarf in the middle of June. I doubt it proves he's a terrorist, but it sure proves that he's a d-bag.
FWIW, "spec viral video" is marketer speak for "video no one asked me to do." They are definitely in business for themselves on this. Which they are allowed to be, but I've little suspicion that Nintendo was behind this, if you excuse the pun.

@Witless: @shichi: Keffiyeh
From Wikipedia:
n mid-2000s New York City, non-Arabs tended to wear keffiyehs in one of three ways. Pro-Palestinian activists wore them loosely draped over their shoulders. World-music aficionados wore them as regular, bunched scarves around their necks (as did girls in the 1980s). Finally, hipsters folded them in half to make a triangle, then gathered the scarf around the neck to leave one point facing down in the center of the chest.
It's controvertial in the US due to its obvious and strong ties to israel, but like Che Gevara tees it will become another symbol of the inmense irony of capitalism.

When your talking about someones "15 minutes" it doesnt take something specifically sexual in nature. It takes something unique that people haven't seen before.
Look at the N64 kid freaking out. People loved that vid because you dont normally see someone loose it like that. He got his 15 min but it wasnt something he went out and tried to obtain...it was given to him by chance.
So my statement above about them earning it refers to the fact they did something on their own and presented it in a unique way and people loved it. Im sure being marketers helped them decide it could be their chance at their 15 and they went for it.
I say to them "keep going".
