Street Fighter IV To Feature Data Cards, Personal Mobile Phone Site, Guilds
Posted by Brian Ashcraft at 5:00 PM on July 1, 2008
Starting July 18th, Street Fighter IV will be playable in Japanese arcades. To save your arcade achievements, the game will use Taito's NESYS Card System. (Makes sense as the game runs on the Taito Type X2 arcade system board!) The NESYS Card will come in four patterns, all of which are pictured. This saved player data contains the player name that appears on-screen in versus mode. The player data can also be accessed individual cell phone SFIV player webpages, which feature stats and ranking as well as news about SFIV events. Via the mobile phone site, it's possible to create and name SFIV guilds. Players can then collect "guild points" and compete with other SFIV guilds to improve their ranking to boot!

@Shijirou: Chun-Li isn't very top heavy, so I'd take a one-piece for her. She'd be so cute.

Sounds pretty cool, though I'm guessing I'll never get to actually try it. Shame the arcade scene in North America is seemingly nonexistent...

guilds? dizam, not even SCIV has been crazy enough to do that. And they've tried an rpg element and YO-DA.
Don't complain about how big they are in the muscle department either, they've been doing this for a long time. Just saw Street Fighter the animated film tonight and they look even bigger there, and that film is awesome.
p.s. once again ken owns, best of the cards.

@justhesh:
I know right, Ryu looks so... disproportional in this game.

@justhesh: Damn straight. Although, in comparison, Ken and Chun-Li look decent enough.
Decent enough isn't good enough, though.

Why is there a picture of the Incredible Hulk up there? Oh wait...that's Ryu.
God awful.

Atleast FFA will have it. I'll drive to FFA for some of that. Hopefully SVGL will have some of that SF4 action too

@ChrisLionheart: Good luck with that.
Actually there's an opportunity here. The only arcades I know of (in California) that *might* scare up a few SFIV units are Family Arcade in Northridge, Arcade Infinity in the Diamond Plaza mall in Rowland Heights and that old arcade up in (I think) Sunnyvale in the south Bay Area... I think it used to be Capcom-owned.
So I ask Kotaku: Name some other arcades in the US that are keeping the faith. I'll write them down and put the list on the fridge with my Koopa magnet.

@Datheron: Yeah, they did it for the Tekken 5 arcade expansion, Dark Resurrection.

It's too bad the arcade scene is dead in the US. Oh well, me and my friends can still have tremendous fun when in February when this comes out for the consoles.

Heh - didn't they try stunts like this w/ some Tekken arcade machines, where you could buy cards that'd record your profile so you could save high scores and theoretically bring your custom-made characters into the arcade cabinet?
Doesn't make much sense in the arcade-forsaken North America, where you'd be lucky to find an arcade within a 30-mile radius...

@ChrisLionheart: I kinda doubt it, but you never know. Honestly, I'll be surprised if this game actually hits the U.S. arcade market at all. Sad to say : (

I hope the GameWorks near me gets a SFIV machine. It mostly focuses on racing and light gun games, but they do have a few fighting and classic arcade games. Its the only arcade place I've been to that has some of the more recent games.
I wish I still lived in California. The Golfland arcade in San Jose was one of the few that still bought new machines.

Why are their heads so small? Ken looks like he's falling off the edge of a building. You've been holding his arm trying to keep him up, but finally he lets go. The look on his face says "It's better this way..." Touching.

Miss arcades, they died off in the mid 90's when consoles took over and there's nothing a console can do better. It's pretty much extinct here for the arcades.
